Chortles' Bali Champs Back in Action;
Play Brinsiey Here Sunday Afternoon
This Sunday afternoon at 3
p. rn, Charlie's Auto Sales,
champions of the Zurich Rec
League, and the Brinsely Bomb-
ers, champs of the West Mc-
Gillvary fastball league, will
play the second game in the
best of three series for a grand
championship.
Charlies took the first game
last Sunday at the Lieury Mem-
orial Park in a close exciting
4-1 contest. Doug Berry and
Kevin McKinnon, the hurlers
in the game, each threw a six
hitter before an estimate of 50
fans.
The first inning saw Charlie's
collect two runs off the bat of
McKinnon after Stark and Reg-
ier were walked. Brinsely scored
their lone run in the first as
Barry and Hodgins each singled.
Pete Regier's second inning
single scored Paul Corriveau to
give Charlie's a two -ruts lead.
There was no scoring for eith-
er team until the sixth, when
Rick Schilbe, playing short stop
position, tripled, scoring Cor-
riveau to give Charlies a four
to one lead.
In the last of the seventh it
looked good for Brinsely as they
started off with two singles but
Charlie's came up with some
fantastic plays to put them down
the next three straight.
Brinsley say they will be back
to Zurich Sunday to even up
the series along with three of
their regular stars which could
not make the first game.
Ball fans, come out Sunday
for the last ball game of the
season in Zurich, to support
Charlie's Auto Sales to another
series victory and to their ninth
straight win in as many starts.
Huron Board ofEducation Debates
Future of Sign at Winq'ham School
A sign at Wingham Public
School pointing the way to the
auditorium received its share
of attention at Monday evening's
board of education n-eeting in
Clinton,
In an oral report, Roy Dunlop
superintendent of business affairs
recommended that the sign now
broken, not be repaired since it
didn't seem too necessary be-
cause most Wingham people
already knew the way to audit-
orium at the school and since
there were no similar signs at thel
other county schools.
•The board, however, agreed
to repair the sign following
questioning by vice-chairman
Bob Elliott who asked John Broad
foot what a "rather elaborate
sign" at Huron Centennial
School at Brucefield had cost.
"About $800, " answered
Broadfoot,
"Then we can't be too stingy
with Wingham, " Elliott concl-
uded. Cost to repair the Winghai
sign has been estimated at about
$140,
"If the Wingham people feel
strongly enough about this sign
to send a delegation to our
meeting as they did last month,
noted Mrs. J, W . Wallace, God-
erich, " I think we should give
it every consideration as a mat-
ter of public relations. "
In other business, the board
learned that 31 teachers have
appealed to the board regarding
their experience allowances;
agreed that a study be made of
the "activity period" in the five
high schools as well as the stud-
ent card costs at each school,
heard that vandals have done
damage at Usborne Central
School (about $800) and Seaforth
Public School, discovered that
thieves have removed about
$180 from Huron Centennial
School and $40 from Holmes-
ville school, established policy
on field trips in the county
schools.

Crop Report
Continued showers have led to
a further deterioration of the
white bean crop still unharvested
A number of sunny days will be
needed to allow harvest of the
remaining one third of the white
bean crop.
Silo filling is rapidly winding
up as operations continue bet-
ween rains. Fall wheat is mak-
ing good growth with the abund-
ant moisture conditions, and
indications at this time point
to a slightly larger average than
last year.
