Huron -Perth Separate School Board
Hears Various Reports 'From Director
At the Huron -Perth Roman
Catholic Separate School Board
meeting in Seaforth last Monday
night John Vintar, Superintend-
ent of Education, reported the
portable classroom for St, Jos-
eph's School at Kingsbridge had
been installed.
In answer to an inquiry he
stated it was located 40 feet
from the school, as were the
other six portables installed
this year for the board, as re-
quired by the Ontario Fire
Marshall's Office.
Martin Delea has been eng-
aged as full time caretaker at
Immaculate Conception School
in Stratford. The Personnel
Committee was authorized to
hire a part time caretaker at
St. Ambrose school in Stratford
at the approved caretaker's
salary schedule.
R, S, Box, from whom the
board rents the board offices
in Seaforth, is to be asked to
have a coat of chipstone put on
the parking lot.
The annual teacher -trustee
banquet is to be held at Huron.
Park, Centralia, on Friday,
October 23, at 7 p.m.
Trustee Arthur Haid, R. R, 4,
Listowel, reported that he and
Trustee Howard Shantz, Stratford
both on the transportation com-
mittee, had met with two mem-
bers of the transportation commit
tee of the Perth County Board
of Education, Donald Alexander
of Wallace Township and Doug-
las Little of Elma Township, to
discuss shared facilities in trans-
porting students living in the

same areas. No decision was
reached and another meeting Is
scheduled within the next two
weeks.
Mrs. Cyril White, R, R. 2, Gad,
shill, is to be advised that St.
Patrick's School, Kinkora, will
not be available for teaching
piano lessons as it is not in
keeping with present policy of
the Board, but the policy is und-
er review from a fee structure.
John Vintar reported that an
exploratory meeting on religious
education in Roman Catholic
schools in Huronand Perth Coun-
ties was held to examine the
existing catechetical programs
in the schools. Attending the
meeting were representatives of
the clergy, educational officials
and religious consultants. They
were: Father Durand, of St.
Boniface Parish, Zurich; Father
Keane of St. Joseph's Parish,
Stratford, and the chairman of
Huron -Perth Deanery; Father H.
J. Laragh, St. James Parish,
Seaforth; • Father D.J. McMaster
St. Patrick's Parish, Kinkora;
Sister Bernadette and Miss
Frances Conway, Religious Ed-
ucation Consultants; Joseph Tok
ar, Assistant Superintendent of
Education for the School Board
and John Vintar.
From the discussion it was
concluded that the Canadian
Catechism program in the
schools could only succeed with
the active co-operation of the
home, the school, and the
church. Subsequent meetings
will address themselves to ex-
ploring in greater detail the
contribution to be made by the
family, the teachers and the
clergy.
The board approved a motion
that the services of Miss Frances

Consultant, be requested from
St. Joseph's Parish Council,
Stratford, for half time in the
schools in the Stratford area ,
from October 1, 1970, to end of
June, 1971,
Brian Garratt of the firm of
architects, Kyles, Kyles and
Garratt of Stratford was at the
meeting to present his almost
completed documented record
of the 19 separate schools in
Huron and Perth Counties, His
report includes pictures of the
interiors and exteriors of each
school, a record of boundaries,
the makeup of acreage, such as
paved play areas, etc.; lists of
areas and sizes of all rooms;
quality of heating, lighting,
ventilation, etc. , a list of re-
quirements needed, the capital
expenditures in the system; a
list of minor requirements such
as fire extinguishers, automatic
program units, garbage disposal
systems; and innumerable other
statistics pertaining to the
schools.
Mr. Garratt recommended
that annually check-ups be •
made on: landscaping at each
school to maintain them in
attractive condition; mainten-
ance of P. A . systems, etc; a
check-up on roofing at each
school; water treatment at each
school; fire extinguishers; and
interior and exterior painting
program.
The property and maintenance
committee, administrative of-
ficers and Mr. Garratt are to
meet to finalize the report. The
report will be brought up to date
every year or two so that it will
continue to be a valuable source
of information for every memb-
er of the board and executive
officer.
Trustee Arthur Haid, chair-
man of transportation commit-
tee, is having a meeting of his
committee members on Octob-
er 5 to•consider a larger bus at
Ste. Marie School, St. Joseph.
The board accepted the tend-
er of Ross Scott Ltd. , Brucefield

The Board accepted the tend-
er from Stewart Brothers, Seaf-
orth, to deliver and install
drapes for all the portable class -

rooms at $85, per unit within
two to three weeks.
Jack Lane, Business Administ-
rator, was given approval to
have private telephone lines
installed to all schools in Huron -
Perth separate school system.
At present four schools are on
multi-party lines.
