BLIND CANVASS
The annual canvass for the
Canadian National Institute for
the Blind will be conducted in
this area early in October. E, R.
Luther, Manager of the Bank
of Montreal, 1-iensall, is camp-
aign chairman. He will be ass-
isted in the canvass by the Wo-
men's Institute, Arnold Circle
and the Legion Auxiliary. Res-
idents in the area not contacted
by canvassers are kindly request-
ed to forward their donations
direct to Mr. Luther.

will be the theme of Hensall
Women's Institute October
meeting, to be held in the Leg-
ion Hall, Wednesday, October
14. Roll -call "A poisonous sub-
stance with which I do not take
precaution."
Guest speaker will be Mrs.
Lorna Lawrence, who is on the
staff of South Huron District
High School, Exeter.
BROWNIES AT WORK
The 1st Hensall Brownies col-
lected baskets Tuesday, Sept-
ember 29. Proceeds amounting
to $12. will be used for a Christ-
mas Good Turn.
Mrs. William Scrabuik left
by jet Thursday, October 1, for
England to visit with her mother
and one of her sons; then to
Lahr, Germany, to visit another
son, returning back by France,
Belgium, and Holland.
William E. Hedden, Niagara
Falls, and Harold Hedden, Dres-
den, visited last week with
their brother, Herb Hedden.
Unit 4 of UCW
Hear Talk on
thanksgiving
The regular meeting of Unit
IV of the United Church Wom-
en was held on Thursday after-
noon, with Mrs. Harry Cald-
well presiding. The worship
was conducted by Mrs. Robert
McAllister, reading from St.
Luke's gospel, chapter 17,
verses 11-19. Her subject was on
"Faith and Thanksgiving"
The collection which includ-
ed the thank offering was taken
by Mrs, Asa Deeves and Mrs.
R.M. Peck.
Mrs. Harry Caldwell had the
study and gave a spirited talk
on the Indians and French situat-
ion in Canada.
An informative discussion foll-
owed.
Unit IV is responsible for the
flowers and nursery for the mon-
th of October.
The ladies were asked to save
good clean clothing for the bale
which will be packed at the end
of the month. The meeting clos-
ed with the singing of a hymn
followed by the Lord's Prayer,
Carmel Women
Discuss Theme Of
Rich Help Poor
The W , M, S , of Carmel Presb-
yterian Church was held on Mon-
day evening, October 5, with
president Mrs. R, A, Orr presid-
ing. The meeting opened with
a call to worship and prayer.
Mrs. Earl Campbell read the
scripture. A skit which was used
in Tokio in July 1970, was given
by Mrs. John Soldan, Mrs. R.
Faber, Mrs. Pearl Love and Mrs.
Orr, comparing the rich count-
ries with the poor countries, and
stressing that the rich should
help the poor.
The roll call was answered
with a verse on Thanks. An
invitation was accepted from
Caven Presbyterian W , M, S , ,
at Exeter to attend their meet-
ing on Thursday, October 15,
at 8 p. m. A report of the Presby-
terial held at Knox Presbyterian
Church, Goderich, was given
by Mrs. Orr. The meeting next
month will be held on Monday,
November 2, at 8:15 p. m.
The Ladies Aid meeting fol-
lowed with Mrs. C. Volland
presiding. Plans were made to
hold a bazaar and tea on Satur-
day, November 7,
Several members of the W, M,
S. helped with crafts at the
Queensway Nursing Home, on
Monday, October 5. The next
day at the Nursing Home is
being held on Thursday afternoon
October 15, from two to four,
when a crokinole party will be
held with the patients.
