Dentures Won't
Replace Teeth
If you think you can replace
your lost teeth with artificial
dentures and enjoy dining as be-
fore, you're going to be disap-
pointed.
Dentures are hardly compar-
able to natural healthy teeth.
Tests have shown that a denture
wearer must chew food six times
as long to get the same consist-
ency as the person with good
natural teeth. Even the taste of
food is dulled and because food
is swallowed in large pieces,
digestive disturbances can be-
come common.
Dentures also change diets.
All foods become harder to eat
and some almost impossible.
Apples, pears and otherfoods
usually bitten off by the front
teeth, may need to be sliced up
by hand before being chewed.
Peanut butter and other sticky
foods usually dislodge the dent-
ures and cannot be eaten.
Artificial dentures cause the
loss of some of the palitability
of food. There is a decreasein
the sensation of temperature,
texture and spicyness.
The intake of desired food alsc
has an emotional effect on the
individual and one looks forward
to good tasting meals and be-
comes content while consuming
it.
If however, the food desired
cannot be eaten or these foods
are not as enjoyable to eat as
before due to the decreased pal-
itability and the increased dif-
ficulty in chewing, one of the
joys of living is sacrificed.
Unfortunately, the problems

of a denture wearer do not stop
with good dining. The body and
mouth tissues react to dentures
and before too long they require
refitting and adjustment.
Traumatic injury can be a by-
product of ill-fitting dentures.
Poorly made ones can alter an
individual's appearance more
drastically than usually realized.
Open cracks or woulds may app-
ear at the corner of the mouth,
and other unattractive changes
may take place.
The disadvantages of dentures
can be avoided -- only by tak-
ing care of your own natural
teeth and make them last a life-
time. (Canadian Dental Assoc-

Frances Conway attended the
meeting.
The board Monday agreed to
ask Miss Conway to work with
Stratford area separate school
teachers on the catechetical
program. Sister Bernadette will
work with teachers in other RC
schools in the two counties.
The board also learned that
its transportation committee is
negotiating with Perth board of
education on a trasportation-
sharing program.
Ross Scott Ltd. of Brucefield
was awarded a contract to supply
fuel for schools under the board's
jurisdiction at a cost of 14.9
cents per gallon. Sterling Fuels,
London, submitted an identical
bid. The price is half a cent
cheaper than last year. The
Scott firm was the supplier then
also. Nine bids were submitted,
Stewart Bros, of Seaforth was
awarded the contract for supply
of drapes for the board's six
portable classrooms at a cost of
$85 a unit. Three bids were
submitted.

There is considerable interest
in a new invention - a windshielc
wiper which will start to operate
automatically when the wind-
shield becomes wet. It will shut
itself off when the rain stops.
Sounds great! All that isi needed
now is a wiper blade that will
really clean the water off the
glass.
