Airs, Alma I -less spent the week end with her daughter and son-in- law, Mr, and Mrs, J.L. McCloy and family at Don Mills, Taking the jet flight by War- dair, to England from September 29 to October 16th are; Mrs. Pearl Shaddick, Mrs. Gordon Schwalm, Mrs, Fred Beer, Mrs. Kay Scrabuik, Mrs. James McAllister, Mr. and Mrs, Harry Horton, Mr. and Mrs. William Soldan, Brucefield, Mrs. Pearl Eyre, Kippen, Mr. and Mrs. Cohn Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Mclvlurtrie. 183 are taking the trip with other passengers coining from Zurich, Exeter, Dashwood areas. Ilensall Women's Institute Uncooked captured first prize in the South Huron Women's Institute comp- etition display carrying out a Thanksgiving Theme, at Exeter Fall Fair. Five articles required in the display were; a fancy table cloth, hand made, table arrangement, a dinner place setting complete, a pumpkin pie suitably displayed, one loaf of homemade bread, 0 VARNA NEWS Anniversary Service was held in the United Church on Sunday last with Rev. Donald Beck, of Bayfield as guest minister. The choir under the leadership of the organist, Mrs. Doug IvlcAsh, sang an anthem "Valley of Peace", also a solo by Peter Postill, "The Voice in the Wilderness, " Quite a number of former members attended the Service. Mr. and Mrs, Donald Barker, Lorne and Glenn of King City, spent the weekend at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred McClymont Hensall Kinettes Plan Sale The ICinette Club of Hensall met at the home of Mrs. Robert Caldwell with the vice-president Mrs. Caldwell in the chair. Mrs. Jim Hyde was one of the guests for the evening, and the other three guests. Mrs. Jack Bettke, Mrs. Roy Bell, and Mrs. Bevin Bonthron were presented with the club by-laws and Kin- ette pins. It was decided to hold a fall rummage sale Friday, October 30. Several Kinettes received tabs for 100% attendance last year.. Committees for ability fund (March of Dimes) are general chairman, Mrs. John Baker, recr uiting chairman, Mrs. Harold Knight, supply chairman, Mrs. John Baker; finance chairman, Mrs. Ron Wareing. Mrs. Alvin Pym, Exeter, showed slides on her trip to Alaska, Hensall UCW Host Visitors The General meeting of the United Church Women with their guests from Kippen and Goshen Churches was chaired by Mrs. James McAllister. Musical sel- iections by Barbara and Nancy McCurdy on the piano in duet were given. Cathy Cook's group singing to guitars, included Joan Goddard and Cathy Simmons who took a solo part in one numb er and Debbie Wooden, and Susan Wooden. Mrs. Fuss acted as accompanist for the evening, Mrs. Eric Luther gave a very +inspiring devotional. Her topic was "Prayer" . The text was taken from Genesis 28, verse 10. Offering was received by Mrs. Earl Rowe and Mrs. E. Chipchase and dedicated by Mrs. McAllist- er with prayer. A skit entitled "Encounter" was portrayed by Carmen Currie and Jill Drysdale following which Carmen read a poem "Heroin." A very lively topic orf -Drug Addiction was ably considered by the guest speaker, Dr. Charles Moyo, of Seaforth. The address was followed by a group discus- sion.. Dr. Moyo was thanked by Mrs. McAllister. The business part of the meet- ing was chaired by Mrs. Vern Alderdice. The treasurer's report was given by Mrs. Walter Spenc- PAGE THREE �r. It was decided to buy two memberships in Avel for film $trips, to take charge of the church service on October 25, and to do the crafts at the Queen 'sway Nursing Horne in November President Mrs. Alderdice read a poem "Just For To -day," Obituary CLARENCE PARKE Clarence Parke, of Hensall, passed away in St. Joseph's Hosp- ital, London, on Sunday, where he had been a patient for nine weeks. He was in his 70th year. Surviving are his wife, the former Mabel Haugh, one son, Kenneth, R. R. 1, Varna, one daughter, (Betty) Mrs, Mel Graham, R R.1, Brucefield; five grandchildren, three step- daughters, two step sons, three step grandsons. Public funeral service for the. kite Mr. Parke was held Tuesday from the Bonthron Funeral Home, Hensall, conducted by Rev. Har- old Currie, Interment in Bayfield cemetery. Pallbearers were Harry Pen - flings, Russel Manson, Roy Mc- Bride, Jim Dinsme.re, Melvin Elliott and rohn Skea, Honorary pallbearers were John Consitt, Ed ward Lamport, Ed Hendrick, Cecil Desjardine, Len Erb, Rein - 'told Miller, Arnold McCann, rack Scotchmer, Ted Steinbach, Max Turnbull and Mel Webster.
