A large steel post which was embedded into the cement was sheared and workmen had to erect a tempor- ary wooden post to hold the extended corner of the building up in place. The door was completely wrecked, as well as a large plate glass window and several smaller windows. Ice Cream Needs Farm Union to Hold Meetings On New Special Care Dairy Marketing Program in Ontar!o Ice cream is the all-time fam- ily favorite, Served plain or dres- sed up, ice cream is a never -fail dessert. •Food specialists, College of Family Consumer Studies, at the University of Guelph, point out that ice cream needs special care to maintain its flavor and texture. The freezer is the place to keep ice cream in quantity, and a month's supply is the most you should keep, Store it in the cold- est part of the freezer and reseal the opened container to prevent loss of flavor and formation of ice crystals. Store it away from the quick freezing surface to keep the ideal consistency. Ice cream can only be kept for a short time, in a conventional refrigerator freezer compartment, since the temperature is above 0 degrees F. When service ice cream, scoop it directly from the carton. A wet scoop helps to remove the ice cream from the package but since the drops of water cause ice crystals to form, be careful not to leave a wet surface on the ice cream. To choose top quality ice cream price is usually the best guideline. Price is an indicator of richness: the higher the butterfat content, the creamier the ice cream, and the higher the price. Fresh fruit ice cream will also be more ex- pensive. Good quality ice cream should be firm but not solid or rubbery. When melted, it will have a creamy rather than a watery ap- pearance. RECEPTION AND DANCE FOR SUSAN DIANE OESCH and WAYNE GEORGE WASSMANN (bridal couple) friday, Sept. 25 9 P.M. Dashwood Community Centre Music by .. . "THE WAYSIDERS" Everyone Lunch Wellcome Provided The National Fanners' Union will be outlining to area farmers the implications of dairy market sharing quotas, at a series of meetings throughout the province of Ontario. John Laporte, R. R. 2, Zurich, president of Local 317 NFU; stated that "after the recent district conventions covering most of Ont- ario, it is evident that the dairy farmers are not prepared to accept controlled production without a substantial increase in price. Pres- ent conditions in the market in- dicate that an increase in the price to dairy farmers is justified and long overdue." The membership has instructed the National Board and exucutive of the NFU. to hold mass rallies in order to ascertain what action is necessary in order to achieve a satisfactory price. Mr. Laporte also indicated that the NUF dairy policy compli- ments the Ontario Mill< Marketing Board's suggestions dealing with market sharing quotas. The OMivl- B plans to implement its plan, perhaps as early as October 1, 1970 Mr. Laports further stated that the implementation of market sharing quota will allocate the volume of milk each producer can sell on the domestic market. This is a major change in dairy policy and the fact that so few consultations were held with dairy farmers is certainly deplorable. The NFU intends to inform the farmers of the shortcomings of the OMMB's proposal on this matter land to permit the farmers to have a democratic voice in deciding the future of their industry. Bill Langdon, of Lakeside, and Hubert Earl of Addison, will be the *key speakers at these rallies. This may be done by grasping the corn stalk at ankle height from the ground and squeezing the stalk firmly - if the stalk crumbles, exposing a soft or hollow centre, stalk rot is fairly well developed. Likely early planted corn will be most affected and drought stricken areas in the field (sand or gravelly areas) will be much worse. Producers should harvest the worst affected field for silage wherever possible or plant to har- vest for grain at higher than norm- al moisture to avoid excessive field losses due to stalk breakage and ear rots which develop later. 0 BITS AND PIECES There is considerable interest in a new invention - a windshie- ld wiper which will start to op- erate automatically when the windshield becomes wet. It will shut itself off when the rain stops. Sounds great! All that is needed now is a wiper blade that will really clean the wat- er off the glass. pAgi Furrow BROWNIE'S DRIVE-IN CLINTON -- ONTARIO Box Office Opens at 8:00 p.m. First Show at Dusk FRI.-SAT.--Sept. 18-19 — DOUBLE FEATURE -- Alfred Hitchcock's Suspence Thriller "TOPAZ" John Forsythe — Frederick Stafford Dany Robin In Color "THE LOST MAN" (ADULT ENTERTAINMENT) Sidney Poitier Color Cartoon Coming Next Weekend: "SCREAM AND SCREAM AGAIN" "VIVA MAX" DRIVE.1N fWfl5T44I THEATRE HWY. 8 GODERICH AT.
