Tom Travers, 17, is playing at
the Festival in Edinburgh, Scot-
land, with the Highland Fusiliers,
of Canada for Galt. They have
been playing to capacity audience;
Tom Left the ninth of August and
expects to arrive home oh Sept-
ember 13. He is the son of Mr.
and. Mrs. Don Travers.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Drysdale
left Sunday, September 6, by jet
for a holiday in Copenhagen,
Denmark. World Council Conf-
erence of Young Men's Service
Clubs is being held there.
Clarence Reid, who underwent
surgery in St. Joseph's Hospital,
London, has returned home.
Mrs. Archie Noakes is a patient
in St. Joseph's Hospital, London.
Mr. and Mrs. Allan Johnson,
Hensall, and.Mr. and Mrs. Alex
McBeath, Kippen, have returned
from a three weeks trip to the
coast, visiting Vancouver Island,
Yellow Stone Park and other
places of interest. They also vis-
ited with relatives in Moose Jaw,
Sask., and Edmonton, Alberta.
They enjoyed the trip by motor,
travelling 7, 000 miles and return -
by the United States.
Mrs. Gordon Schwalm, who is
the children's secretary of the
Hamilton -London Synodical of
the Huron Presbyterial of the Presb.
yterian Church, attended the Wo-
men's Missionary Conference adult
and children's training event of
the University of Guelph for three
days last weekend. She also vis-
ited with Miss Jean Morrison and
Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Smith, Mrs.
Mabel Jarrott, of Guelph, and
Mr. and Mrs. Read, of Hespeler,
the former, a nephew of Ivlrs.
Alma Hess, who took the trip also,
Mrs. Pears Woirel, from Musk-
egan, Michigan, and Mrs. Velma
Gardiner from Caro, Michigan,
returned home on Thursday after
spending the last week with Mrs.
Pearl Shaddicic and Mrs. Annie
Cole.
Carl Payne is a patient in Sea -
forth Community Hospital.
Mrs. J.L. McCloy and Carrie,
of Don Mills, visited with Mrs.
Alma Hess this week.
AMBER REHEKAHS
Amber Rebekah Lodge resumed
meetings when they met in the
Lodge Hall, Wednesday, Septemb-
er 2, with Noble Grand Mrs. Elg-
in Thomson presiding. The Vice -
Grand reported sending cards and
flowers to quite a number of sick
and shut-ins during the holiday.
A request was received for help
for the disaster area in the Sud-
bury district. A letter was receiv-
ed from the district secretary not-
ifying this Lodge of the installat-
ion of officers to be held Novem-
ber 4. Arrangements are to be
made later.
The Lodge accepted an invitat-
ion to attend a banquet in Exeter,
November 9, in honor of the
assembly president, Mrs. Audrey
Miller, and the district deputy
president, Mrs. Lois McFalls, of
Exeter.
Happy Birthday was sung to a
number of members who had birth-
days during the holidays.
Mrs. Leona Parke and Mrs.
Annie Reid reported having visit-
ed patients at Queensway Nursing
Home and presenting them with
treats. The report was read of the
year's work of the past district
deputy president, Mrs. Margaret
Bowra, of Goderich.
LEGION LADIES
A pot luck supper preceeded
the September meeting of Hensa11
Legion Ladies Auxiliary, held
Wednesday, September 2, with
members of the Legion as guests
for the supper. President, Mrs.
Vic Stan took the chair for the
meeting.
President Mrs. Stan and secret-
ary Mrs. W . H. Bell, will attend
the convention at Niagara Falls,
September 21, as delegates. A
social evening will be held Oct-
ober 17, when a draw will be
made for a $50 bill, by the sports
committee, Mrs. Clarence Reid
and Mrs. William Smale.
Mrs. M. Rooseboom won the
mystery prize and Mrs. Grant
Bisbacic the guessing prize.
UNIT IV
The regular meeting of Unit
IV of Hensall United Church Wo-
men was held Thursday, Septemb-
er 3, with Mrs. J. McAllister pre-
siding.
Mrs. Roger Venner, a recent
delegate to the London Conference
of United Church Women at Alma
College, gave a very interesting
and inspiring devotional on the
"Theme of Love".
Karen McAllister favoured with
two piano selections. Mrs. Mc-
Allister gave the study.
Invitations were received from
Zurich United Church UCW, also
Unit II of Hensall United Church.
