WORLD CHAMPIONS
An interesting bit of national
news on. the weekend should also
prove of interest to many resid-
ents of this area who attended
the Band Tattoo in Zurich this
past summer.
A feature attraction at the tat-
too was the Midlanders Drum .and
Bugle Corps, and just this past
week the same band won the
world's championship in junior B
competition. They were given a
royal reception on their return to
London and Woodstock.
About 15 members of the Strat-
ford unit of the National Campers
and liikers Association attended
the Bean Festival in Zurich on
Saturday, and made the event
a two-day camp -out. The camp-
ers were set up in the Zurich
Community Park, and according
to a spokesman for the group they
were quite pleased with their vis-
it.
Several members of the group
told this newspaper that they
hoped to return to the festival
again next year, and they added
that possibly as many as 200 units
would attend, which could ac-
count for an extra eight or nine
hundred people.
A noticeable feature of the
calmpers was the tidy manner in
which they left the park. The
group not only left the area they
used in spotless condition, but
they cleaned up the entire park
as well, They will be most hear-
tily welcomed back to the comm-
unity again next year.

Green Acres Farm Popular
Attraction at Bean Festival
it might seem hard to believe, 1
but each year the crowd gets larg-1
er and larger ar the Bean Festival
in Zurich. On Saturday a crowd
estimated at well over 10, 000
persons visited the village for the
fifth annual event, and they all
seemed to enjoy themselves im-

Probably one of the highlights
of this year's festival was the
Green Acres farm. where visitors
were taken by bus and then trans-
ported around the site on tractor -
drawn wagons. At the farm they
also say many of the stars of the
popular television program being
portrayed by, residents of this com-
munity. They also had the priv-
ilege of visiting Sant 1)ruckers
store, and to chat with Oliver
and Lisa, I laney, Mr. Ziffle and
Mr, Kimball, On numerous oc-
casions they could also see Oliver
and Lisa climb the pole to answer
the telephone, just the way they
do on the actual television show.
Officials of tate festival estim-
ated that well over 1000 persons
visited the Green Acres farm,
which is owned by Kenneth Cas-
cho,
Visitors starred arriving in the
village before noon, and the
crowd kept getting bigger as the
day went on. Food committee
chairman, Gerald Gingerich said
he thought the people started
eating earlier in tite clay than they
had at previous festivals.
Cold ham, cote slaw and bread
were served with the delicious
home -baked beans for only one
dollar. The people also had the
privilege to buy a pieceof tasty
'home -baked pie to go with their
meal,
The beans were first cooked in
two large bean cookers, which
were manufactured locally and
engineered by Gerald Gingerich.
After cooking, the beans had
all the necessary ingredients ad-
ded and were then baked in ovens
located in the central kitchen at
Gingerich's store, A considerable
amount of bacon, ketchup and
brown sugar were used in the
recipe for cooking.
There were about 50 women
involved in the cooking and serv-
ing of the meal, The first prepar-
ation of rhe beans began already
on Friday afternoon, and workers
spent most of the night on the job.
Meals were eaten on three differ-
ent streets, Victoria, Mill and
Goshen, at picnic tables .
Members of women's groups of
St. Boniface Church, Zurich; St.
Peter's Church, St. Joseph, Zurich
