Mr, and Mrs. J.J. Basey spent
the holidays with friends and
relatives in Guelph and Kitchener.
A newspaper offered a certain
prize for the answer to the follow-
ing question, "Why is a newspap-
er like a woman? "Because every
man should have one of his own,
and not run after his neighbours.
Mr. and Mrs. Chris Gascho
and Mr, and Mrs. Joseph Schwart-
zentruber, of the Bronson Line,
attended the funeral of a relative
down East over Sunday,
On Friday evening, the sched-
uled_ league game between Zur-
ich -and Gederich was played on
the local diamond, and was an
easy victory for the locals, by a
score of 7-2. Dr. O'Dwyer again
showed his old- time form as a
ball twirler and was hard to get
a hit off.
Mr. Frank Siebert, of Detroit,
is at present vacationing at his
home here.
Mr. Louis Prang, of the village
last week advised that he has
corn that measures eight feet, ten
inches in height, tomato vines
that are four foot six in length,
and pumpkin vines, thirteen feet
six inches.

Word was received hereof the
passing of a former well-known
resident of this community, more
so at Dashwood, in the person of
Mr. John Fried who died at his
home in California, on Friday
of last week.

are away on a motor trip to
Toronto, Hamilton, Kitchener
and other eastern points.
Mrs. J. H, Langford and Mrs.
MacCracken, of London, were
Friday visitors with Mr. and Mrs,
R. F. Stade, of town.
Alex Smith and son, Eldrid,
are visiting with relatives and
friends in Omer, Michigan and
Detroit,
A sacred band concert was en-
joyed in Hensall by the Blyth
Band on the Park Grounds on
Sunday evening, July 27, which
commenced at 8 o'clock.
Mr. and Mrs. Norman Cook
and members of their fancily,
have returned after a pleasant
several weeks trip to Algoma
District, Owen Sound and other
lake ports, returning by way of
Toronto, and enjoying the trip
very much.

Dr. R. Hobbs Taylor, Dashwood
who has been very ill in a Toron-
to hospital, is recuperating at his
home in Dashwood.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Datars and
Anita motored to Guelph last
Sunday, where the latter will
be attending the Lutheran Camp
for a week.
Mr. Jules Corriveau, of Det-
roit, called on friends in this
vicinity over the past weekend.
Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Wag-
ner, and two children are holi-
daying at the Wagner home in
Zurich for a few days.

daying at the house of the latter's
parents, Mr. and Mr. W. Johns-
ton, of Zurich.
Farmers are busy this week with
their crops of wheat which is
badly down and tangled up, Some
threshing has commenced,
Miss Kathleen I•Iay has taken a
position in Traquair's Hardwars
Store in Exeter.
Mr. and Mrs. Theodore La-
porte, of Windsor, are vacation-
ing on the Bluewater Highway.

The dwelling property in town
of the late Mrs, Emily Fuss has
been purchased by Mrs, Nancy
Koehler, who gets immediate
possession.
The newly built cottage just
next to llerb hiousseau's house,
and erected by Mr. Mousseau,
and recently vacated by Alr. and
Mrs. Grant Case, has been sold
to Mr, and Mrs, Leonard Bownalu.
Rev. Father Kenneth Dietrich
reports (via Air Mail) a very int-
eresting and pleasant journey to
the Philippines.
Rev: Father D. Monaghan Itas
left for a week's holiday . During
his absence Father Richard Bedard
of Brockville, and who is vacat-
ioning with his relatives here,
will be in charge of Father Mona-
ghan's work at St. Boniface Par-
ish.

Dorothy, of Clinton, Mr. W.
Ivlutch, of Paisley, Mrs. Carrie
Armstrong, of Woodstock, were

At a special meeting of the
council of the village of llensall,
George Armstrong was appointed
as chairman of the 1 tydro Com-
mission to replace the late R.E.
Shaddick, who passed away last
week.
Ralph Latimer, Zurich, Itas
been hired by the Grand Bend
Chamber of Commerce to handle
the chores of secretary, made -
vacant by the departure of Mrs.
J. W. Peace.
Mr, and Mrs. Edward Deichert,
newlyweds, left on Sunday for
their home in Scarborough, after
spending several days with their
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Victor
Deichert and Mr. and Mrs. Rus-
sell Grainger.
Mrs. Betty Carrrie, of London,
attended the Robinson -Greer
wedding last Saturday, and is
visiting relatives in the vicinity
this week.
Mr. Frederick Papirieau, a
native of St. Joseph Parish and
now a resident of Detroit, spent
a few days in this parish the past
week in residence with Mr. and
Mrs. Victor Ducharme, who are
in charge of caring for the Pap-
ineau farm.

The best time to control the

is late June or.early July, accord-
ing to horticulturists with the
Ontario Department of Agricult-
ure and Food. The larvae which
have dropped to the ground to
pupate are just emerging at this
time.
Satisfactory results can be obt-
ained by the use of lindane or
malathion. These sprays should
be applied by carefully following
the manufacturer's directions.
