Tax Removal
Pleases Federation
The Ontario government's dec-
ision to exempt farmers from
paying sales tax on farm ventil-
ating fans was welcomed by the
Ontario Federation of Agriculture.
Mr. White, the Minister of Rev-
enue, made the ruling recently
as a result of a request by the
0.F, A. The individual farmer
has to sign an "end users" cert-
ificate" to get this exemption.
"This will help farmers to
continue to help fight inflation, "
said 0.F, A. President, Gordon
Hill. "It may not be as import-
ant as the tax fight but it will
be of considerable benefit to
many farmers who are building
or improving their farm buildings.
The sales tax exemption result-
ed from resolutions passed at the
members' meeting of the 0. F. A ,
and a considerable amount of
background work by staff mem-
bers. This is the sort of work
that has to be supported by farm-
ers on a continuous basis if they
are to receive a fair break in
competing with producers in
other provinces and other parts
of the world.
Work is going ahead in many
other areas where farmers have
asked the O . F . A . to act on their
behalf.
