Mr., and Mrs. George Farwell
who have recFntly moved from
Zurich to Detroit, are spending
several days in Dunnville.
Owing to the absence of Rev.
F.B. Meyer, there will be no
preaching services in the Evangel-
ical Church this Sunday morning
or evening.
The Clydesdale entire horse,
"Golden Ball, " who was managed
by Mr. Cyrus Colosky, of the
village and owned by Mr, J.L.
Miller, of near Exeter, died last
week of paralysis. The loss to Mr.
Miller is around $1, 000.
Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Greb and
family, of Kitchener, are settled
in their fine summer home at
Grand Bend.
Mr. Valentine Gelber Sr., has
p;archased the building and land
in Blake, which he has occupied
for some time.
The Hall Dent glove factory is
now turning out a large number
of ladies' gloves each week.
40 Years Ago
JULY, 1930
On Saturday of this week, will
commence a two weeks reduction
sale in the general store of J. W.
Merner, of Zurich.
Beginning July 1, the rate on
letters to places outside of Cann,
ada, with the exception of places
in the Empire, France and North
and South America (to which the
Canadian domestic rate applies)
will be 5 cents for each letter
weighing one ounce or less.
After many years of active
nursing, Mrs. Robert Patterson, Sr.
:'.as decided to retire from hospital
work. For fifteen years she has
successfully conducted a splendid
cottage hospital, which has serv-
ed well the needs of the comm-
unity.
The following young ladies
and gents left last Sunday, for
Detroit, where they intend to
spend their holidays: Master Gerais
Rau, the Misses Jean, Marie and
Geraldine Laporte, Florence Den-
omme, and Muril Jeffrey.

special manual course at Hamil-
ton Technical School this summer
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Far-
well of Toronto, are spending a
two-week vacation with members
of their family in and around
Zurich.
11r. Lorne Klopp, Gordon and
Stanley Smith, have returned
home after a very pleasant fishing
trip to the Parry Sound district.
Campers who have scampered
off to the beach to avoid the
July heat are finding themselves
in a bad way, as there is almost
frost each night.
Mr. Joseph Druar has sold his
lovely farm and home to his
neighbour, Mr. Alex Meidinger.
The Zurich Lions Club are
holding their first picnic at Turn -
bull's Grove on Wednesday even-
ing.
Mrs. Earl Zimmer and family,
Windsor, are spendin& their vac-
ation with Mrs. A. Zimmer, in
Dashwood.

JULY, 1955
The tenth annual reunion of
the Willert family was held at
Jowett's Grove, Bayfield, July
2, with ideal weather.
Mrs. John Turkheim and Miss
Marlene Wagner spent last week
at Waterloo College, where they
attended lectures and classes for
church music and pipe organ.
Mr. Ross Gascho, of London,
was a weekend visitor with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Norman
Gascho.
Mr. Ferd Haberer has returned
to his home after being a patient
in St. Joseph's Ilospital, London
for some weeks.
Mr. Morris Rau and sister, Mrs.
Calvin Cutler, of Detroit, were
holiday visitors with their mother,
Mrs. John Paul Rau.
The Summer Vacational Bible
School sponsored by the local
Mennonite church is having an-
other good year with about 140
children in attendance.
Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Gerard,
and bab y, of Leamington, spent
the weekend with Mr. and Mrs.
Victor Hartman, of Goshen South.
Douglas Dick, 23, of the Parr
Line, Hay Township, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Ross Dick, was taken
to the Stratford General Hospital,
with a crushed foot and broken
bones.

JULY, 1960
Construction on the new bowl-
ing alley at the east end of Zur-
ich, is proceeding on schedule,
according to Ernie Laidlaw, who
will be proprietor of the district's
finest recreation centre.
Sixteen new four -foot fluores-
cent street lights will be installed
in the village of Zurich this sum-
mer, it was reported by the hydro
committee of the village.
Wednesday, July 27, has been
set as the date the Red Cross
Blood Donor Clinic will be held
in Zurich.
Douglas Thiel, Ken Weido and
Hugh Clausius spent a weekend
on a fishing trip at Chesley Lake.
Mrs. Gerald Gingerich and
infant daughter, have returned to
their home in Zurich, from Clint-
on Public Hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Ross Johnston,
and family,• spent a few days this
week in Rochester, New York.
Miss Meda Surerus, Toronto,
is spending the summer vacation
period at her home in Zurich.

Couple Honored
At Picnic
The Sunday Church School and
congregational members of Em-
manuel United Church, Zurich,
held a picnic luncheon at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Allan
Gascho, on Sunday, July 12.
Following the meal, a present-
ation of folding table and chairs
and a desk set, were made on
behalf of the Sunday School tea-
chers and pupils, to Mr. and Mrs.
John Geiger, honouring them on
their recent marriage and mark-
ing Mr, Geiger's retirement from
the position of Sunday Church
School superintendent, as the
couple take up residence in Lond-
on.
Robert Horner made the pres-
entation on behalf of the group
and Mr. Geiger respondecFwith
brief remarks of appreciation.

Bayfield Council
Bayfield Council met last Mon-
day night at 8 p. m. in the Mun-
icrpalBuildin council chambers.
Reeve E.W. Oddleifson and all
councillors were present.
A discussion was held on the
advisability of joining one of the
conservation areas. It was felt
that this would make available
engineering advice that could
help in solving the lake shore
erosion problem.
The council decided to call
for tenders on the maintenance
of the recently purchased Bayfield
Street lighting system.
The financial statement of the
village to June 30 was presented
by Clerk -treasurer Gord Graham
which indicated a very healthy
financial position. It was noted
that all commitments have been
met.
