JULY, 1920
Mrs. Brownlee of Kippen and
Brucefield, respectively, was in
town on Sunday visiting the Sab-
bath School of the Evangelical
Church.
The local water supply in the
village of Zurich has underwent
a number of repairs and improve-
ments, and is now in good work-
ing condition. The streets will
' also be sprinkled twice a week,
with George Thiel receiving the
contract for the work.
The employees of the Hall
Dent Company enjoyed their an-
nual picnic on Monday at Grand
Bend.
The strawberry crops are very
good this season, with the berries
selling at only 15 cents a box.
About fifty young people from
Dashwood enjoyed themselves at
a weiner roast at Drysdale beach
last Monday.
There are 15 candidated for
Junior High School entrance from
S. 5,15, Hay writing at Dashwood
centre this week.
Professor and Mrs. L. Hekoa
were in the village over the week-
end.
A large number of lovers of
baseball accompanied the team
to Crediton last Tuesday, where
the locals won a thrilling 2-1
victory.

JULY, 1940
A happy event took place in
Zurich on Sunday, when Rev.
Father Richard Bedard celebrated
his first Solemn High Mass at St.
Boniface Church. The occasion
was an outstanding one, since
Father Bedard was the first boy
of the Parish to be ordained as
a Priest.
Strawberries are in full supply
now, and the crop is exception-
ally_good, but for the scarcity
of sugar one could preserve an
ample supply of this choice food.
Progress is being made in the
new residence of Mr, and Mrs.
R. F. Stade, in town. The brick
work is now nearing completion,
and when finished this will be a
very comfortable home.
The many friends of Father L.
Powers are indeed happy to see
aim in town over the weekend, and
looking so good.
Albert G. Hess, while sitting
out in front of his cottage at the
lake the other day, noticed a
flock of at least 150 wild geese
lying over.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Thiel at-
tended the 25th wedding anniv-
ersary of Mrs. Thiel's sister in
,ondon on Saturday evening.

JULY, 1$55
\Mr, Leroy O'Brien had an op-
er tion at St. Joseph's Hospital,
Londbri, and is expected home
one of these days. We are very
pleased Leroy is getting along so
well.
Dr. and Mrs. W, B , Coxon spent
several days last week at Jackson,
Michigan attending the Michigan
State University Medical Confer-
ence.
The Westlake Furniture of town
have now occupied their new
building erected on Main Street,
just west of the Insurance block
and east of the Hess Jewellery
store.
Decoration Day was observed at
St. Peter's Lutheran Church on
Sunday afternoon and was well
attended.
Mrs. Jacob Kipfer and Mrs.
Chris Gascho spent several days
with friends and relatives at Bad-
en, Kitchener and Tavistock .
Sorry that we are obliged to
publish this article, but a citizen
is complaining that boys are tram-
ping around her garden at nights
and swiping, as they call it,
cherries from the trees, which
are now ripe.

JULY, 1960
The council of the Township
of Hay are giving serious consid-
erations to the idea of renovating
the Township Hall in Zurich, so
it could be used for the clerk's
office, as well as a meeting place
On Thursday evening a picnic
supper was enjoyed in the base-
ment of St. Peter's Lutheran
Church by the junior choir, the
confirmants and the church counc-
illors.
Exeter and District branch of
the Canadian Cancer Society has
exceeded again it's campaign
quota of $3500.
Miss Sharon Block who is em-
ployed at Grand Bend, spent sev-
eral days at the home of her par-
ents Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Bloch,
The children, grandchildren,
and great grandchildren of the
late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Gascho,
Zurich, met at the cottage of
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Gascho for a
reunion.
Evangelical U , B. Church, Zur-
ich decorated with baskets of
white gladiolas and red snap drag-
ons with ferns, was the setting for
the marriage of Erla Cealiea Hay
and Eric Smale, Hensall.

Gowan dealt with the problems
of child care. It showed that at
times it is difficult to know where
the line should be drawn between
welfare work and CAS care.
Jack Alexander, Wingham,
told council that from Miss Mc-
Gowan's report he could see that
welfare and children's aid work
should be handled by one depart-
ment.
As it was her last report to cou-
ncil prior to her retirement this
fall, Miss McGowan was present-
ed with a gold bracelet inscribed
with the county crest.
