east half of the park that has
been developed.
Mr. Amos described the Park-
hill project as a multi-purpose
undertaking, but added that the
main purpose was that of flood!
control.
Leaving the site of the Parkhill
dant, the group were taken past
Stewart Gully, and then on to
Rock Glen, where as many as
2, 000 visitors come each week-
end. Within the area there is a
40 -foot falls, the retrains of an
old mill, and outdated power
dant, and what is the real draw-
ing card, unique fossil formations
in the Devonian Shale.
The day -long tour ended by
viewing rhe picnic and boat -
launching site at Port Franks,
and the Thedford'Conservation
area. At the end of rhe tour, a
buffet supper was served to the
entire group at the summer home
of Zurich reeve, Gordon Iless,
in the Pinery.
Main purpose of the tour was
to acquaint municipal officials
from across Huron County with
the work that has been carried
out in these two conservation
areas to date. A recent recomm-
endation at county council level
suggested that all municipalities
should belong to one authority
or another, and this tour gave
officials from the non -particip-
ating communities an opportun-
ity to see what conservation is
all about. The village of Zurich
is one of the municipalities
which does not presently belong
to a Conservation Area,
