(by Doug Turkheim)
Sunday night the Zurich Midgets
hardball team met a little bit
harder competition and were
forced to a 10-4 defeat by Clinton,
Clinton took an early 3-0 lead
in the first inning and were held
back in the second to no runs.
Don Ayotte started Zurich off in
the second inning with a triple,
and managed to steal home be-
Luc
fore the inning ended,
Other Zurich runs were scored
by Don Ayotte with another single
and Rick Regier and Leo Debus.
Zurich only managed to coxae up
with four more hits off Clinton's
pitcher, Steve Switzer, with Pat
Bedafd having two,and single hits
going to Larry Hess and Gerard
Charrette.
Clinton defeated Zurich at bat
having 15 hits and scoring on
numerous errors committed by
the locals.
There was a good turn -out for
the first home game and we are
hoping that the same loyal sup-
port will continue throughout the
year.
OFF AND AWAY - Pony races were held at Zurich this past Sunday, and attracted a large crowd
of spectators as well as participants. The starting unit is seen in this photo as it lines up a group of

BARBERS WIN SECOND
Led by Eric Smale's four hits,
one of them a triple, the Barber
Boys cruised to a 17-5 victory
over the Farmer's Union for their
second win of the season. The
Barbers, behind the pitching of
Shane McKinnon, built up a five -
run lead in the first inning, and
never looked back. Also adding
to the hitting attack were Bob
Merner, Doug O'Brien and Phil
Overholt with two hits apiece,
including a double and homer off
the heavy bat of Overholt, and
singles by Shane McKinnon,
George Suplat, and Don O'Brien.
Even though the Farmer's
Union came out on the short end
of the score they did pound out
11 hits, including two triples by
Phil Laporte and Don Masse.
GINGERICI-I'S DUMP LEFTOVERS
In another high scoring contest,
Gingerichs came up with a strong
team effort at the .plate knocking
out 14 hits as they recorded their
first victory of the schedule. The
leftovers suffered their second
consecutive loss in the young
season. James Ranier and Tony
Bedard each slammed out a home
run while Gary Gingerich and
John Gascho added triples. Lloyd
Lostell and Gingerich also hit
doubles and singles were contrib-
uted by Wayne Horner, Fred Well:
Glen Gascho and Don Parsons,
who had three.
Tony Bedard was the winning
pitcher while Gordie 1 -la hurled
fr the losers. y
CHARLIE'S DUMP BLUEWATER
What started as a very close
match at the Bluewater turned out
to be a lopsided victory for Charl-
ie's Auto Sales, as they exploded
for seven runs in the best half of
the second inning and went on to
defeat the Bluewater BP's 16-5.
The Lakeside crew had been lead-
ing 6-1 as they took to the field
in the second inning.

Continue Plans
For Baby -Sitting
The June meeting of St. Bon-
iface Catholic Women's League,
was opened by president, Mrs.
Louis Farwell, with prayer.
Thirty-eight members were pres-
ent.
Linda Sweeney, CWL delegate
to the convention held in Hotel
London, gave an interesting
account of her trip.
It was decided to continue
baby-sitting facilities during
Sunday Masses, for the summer
months.
Participation in the bean fest-
ival, as in other years, and a .
large hand made quilt will be
a special attraction.
Father Durand spoke on the
necessity of prayer to a house-
wife's life, and the means of
sanctity derived from this.
The meeting was adjourned
and lunch was served.
the victors was Dave Stark, with
two home runs and a single, -
while homers were also pounded
out by Pete Regier and Richard
Turkheim, who added a double
and a single as well. Other hit-
ters for Charlie's were Kevin
McKinnon and Ron Corriveau
with triples, and Gerry Rader,
Paul Corriveau, and. Gary Flax -
bard with singles.
Gerry Rader and Kevin McKin-
non shared the pitching chores
for the winners, and Kyle Harris-
on and Brian Hodgins worked on
the mound for the Bluewater.
