Every Power Take Off shaft should be shielded. In this picture, Mr. Hal Wright, Provincial Farm
Safety Specialist with rhe Ontario Deparruient of Agriculture and Food points to a PTO that isn't -
and because it isn't it could be dangerous. With the master shield removed, the PTO could catch
loose clothing, and cause serious bodily harm to an operator. This tractor also carries the new -style
tubular type PTO Shield. Like rhe older equipment this requires regular maintenance and lubrication
otherwise rhe rube can seize onto the shaft and damage it severely

Care For Pumps
Now that the brilliant display
of tulips is over, care must be
taken to ensure a good display
next year, say ltorticulturalists
with the Ontario Department of
Agriculture and Food.
The leaves of the plants should
be left intact to supply food wliicl
is stored in the bulb seeds for
next year. The faded blooms,
however, should be rcutovcd to
prevent the food from being
channeled to them for the devel-
opment of seeds.
Annual plants can be planted
among the tulips and the tulip
foliage removed after it begins
to clic, usually in three to tour
weeks' time. if the bulbs arc to
be moved they should be dug with
as ntuclt soil on the roots as pos-
sible, They should then be Heeled
in close together in a shallow
trench where they can complete
their growth.
Once the foliage has died it
should be completely removed
and destroyed as it may Barbour
disease which can be carried over
in the soil.
