William Walper, Seaforth, has sold his farm on the Kippen road to James Nolan, Seaforth, for the sum of $14, 500. The steamer "Greyhound"will run an excursion from Goderich to Detroit, on Tuesday, June 15 and back again on Thursday, June 17. The fare is $3.00. The Exeter School Board, at a recent meeting granted a bon- us of $75. to all their public school teachers and to all their high school teachers, $100. Williams Brothers, the local millers, have purchased a 1- ton Ford truck for conveyiIi their produce to Hensall, which should prove to be a real convenience for the firm. Professor Luther Kekoa, the Hawaian musician, has taken up rooms in the Waiper house for the summer months, and will become a resident of Zurich. William Lamont, of the vil- lage shipped last week the well known holstein cow "Annie Brook De Kall, " to Mr. Dunlop of Frankford. We understand the price was away up in the three numbers. 40 Years Ago JUNE, 1930 Harold Klopp, of Detroit, visited with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Klopp. Miss Marguerite Prang of Buffalo, New York, Mr. A. Aulerich and Miss Elizabeth Truemner, of Detroit, were weekend guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Prang. Norman Gascho of town has recently purchased from Mrs. W. C. C allfas, of Kitchener, the residential property which they have occupied in town for some time. Judge C .N, Lewis of Goderich was in town on Friday afternoon and presided at the Local Divis- ion Court. June 3, passed off very quietly in the village and no one seemed to be over -enthused over the birthday of our worthy King, in fact, we cannot recall of even hearing a fire cracker explode. One of our local constables advises us that there is a rumor about that certain parties are threatening to have this official discharged. William Brown made a busin- ess trip to London last Wednesday 25 Years Ago JUNE, 1945 Private Charles Hay has sent a cable to his parents from over- seas, stating of his safe arrival at his destination. Albert Bachert of the Bronson Line, was rushed to Clinton hospital, where he had an oper- ation performed for appendicitis. Some of the members of the Zurich Lions Club have been visiting other clubs theast weeks in recognition of extending thanks for the gifts received at the Charter Night. Our local public school teach- ers, accompanied by Victor Din- nin, attended a Teacher's con- vention in Hensall last Tuesday. It was a lucky day for the pupils. A goodly number of villagers attended the nomination meeting for the province, at Hensall, on Monday night. Word was received in Dashwood that Willis Mclsac, of Detroit, has been liberated from a German prisoner of war camp. The many friends of J. W. Ort- wein, in Hensall, were pleased to see him back in church on Sunday morning after a lengthy illness. 15 Years Ago JUNE, 1955 His Excellency, Bishop John C. Cody, D,D,, of London, made his pastoral visitation to St. Boniface Parish on Monday evening, May 30, and also administered the Sacrament of Confirmation. PUBLIC NOTICE 1970 CENSUS AND ENUMERATION The Huron -Perth Regional Assessment Department will be commencing its annual census and enumeration programme in the City of Stratford, Town of St. Marys, and all towns, villages and townships in the two counties, June 1st. It is expected that it will take approximately two to three weeks to complete this work. The information required is basically the same as that required by the assessors in past years and is necessary for the completion of the assessment roll for each municipality. All enumerators involved in this programme carry identification cards. Therefore do not hesitate to ask to see these before answering questions or divulging information. Your co-operation and assistance in this programme wilt be very much appreciated. CITIZENS NEWS Mrs. William Forrester is a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital, and is improving in health. Mr. and Mrs. Ferd Haberer and Arlene were weekend visitors in Fonthill and Brantford. William O'Brien Jr., of Niag- ara Falls, was a weekend visitor at the home of his parents in Zurich. Monday was observed as a national holiday in U.S,A., known as Decoration Day, and many weekend holiday visitors were over in Ontario for their outing. The Band Concert put on by the local Boy's and Girl's Band was a huge success, as some very fine music was played. 10 Years Ago MAY, 1960 The Zurich Brownies, on Monday and Tuesday canvassed the village for the World Refugee Week campaign, and received donations totalling $116.80. Mr. and Mrs. Ivlilfred Schilbe, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd O'Brien, Mr. and Mrs. Nap Corriveau, Russell Grainger and George Dei - chert are attending the annual convention of Lions Clubs, being held this year in Ottawa. The Zurich Mennonite Church was well filled on Sunday even- ing,May 29, when Dr. A . W. Klhsen spoke to the youth group on the theme "How to Keep Courtship Christian!" Mrs. Olive M. O'Brien is ret- iring as public school teacher in S.S. No. 7, Hay, after serving over 40 years in the teaching profession. Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Cor- riveau were married in St. Boniface R. C . Church, Zurich, on Saturday, May 28. A five or ten dollar fine may be waiting for the farmer who lets persons under 16 years of age drive his tractors or motor vehicles along the highway this summer. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Lavery, who have been living in the apartment above Mr. and Mrs. Milne Rader, have taken up residence in Hensall in an apart- ment owned by Mrs. Ruth Bell. Huron.
