FOSTER CHILD (continued from page 2) vocational training. Despite the distance that separates Foster Parents from their children overseas, "adopt- ion" is very personal. The monthlyletters between them P kee boh parties in constant touch, and over the years they often develop fast and loving friendships, The original case history and photograph of the child sent to the Foster Parent at the time of "adoption" are supplemented by regular reports and photographs to chart the progress of tle child. In their montily letters, the children share their sorrows and joys with their second Parents. They are touchingly eager to do well in school for their Foster Parents' sake, but like children all over the world they are not always successful. One Hong Kong younster ruefully confessed: "But I have hardships on arithme- tic, geography, grammar and history." The arrival of Foster Parents' letters, photographs and post- cards, and, of course, gift pack- ages are a cause for rejoicing --both letters and gifts shown proudly to all the neighbours, teachers and classmates, The letters are read and re -read until they are dog-eared. A little Korean girl wrote: "I had your iftarcel with your warm though'. II held it in myarms and danced.' The varietof Foster Parents is surprising --both individuals and groups. They range from school groups to military messes, from the Pearsons, the Stanfields and the Diefenbakers to a mother with a brood of her own, or to a young couple anxious to share their- happiness. Schools classes, fraternal or- ganizations, labor unions, bridge clubs and even prisoners pool their resources to help some child acheive a decent life. A number of Foster Parents visit their Foster Child during business or vacation trips. These are moving and heart-warming encounters long -remembered by both sides. Often the first thing a visiting Foster Parent sees is his own photograph in a place of honor. TIMEX WATCHES REG. VALUE — $12.95 ONLY $7.47 Thursday, Friday, Saturday at ... Zurich'° Hardware r County Asks For More Protection The Department of Lands and Forest will be requested to pro- vide more protection and more patrols in certain areas, partic- ularly in the neighbourhood of Highways 21 and 4, during the main hunting season, it was dec- ided at Huron County Council Friday afternoon. The action came following complaints in the county that American hunters are coming in- to Huron County and stripping the area of wildlife, leaving nothing for local hunters to stalk. Two other suggestions have been made, bylaws passed at the local level under the Municipal Act regulating discharge of fire- arms; and to lave a township de- clared a regulated township. It was learned that some town- ships in Huron County are now established as regulated townships, There was also some discussion about the presence of out- of -the - county bait companies which are emptying the Iluron County rivers and streams of all forms of mar- ine life. It was pointed out that while these companies are lic- ensed to operate, individual property owners have the right to forbid them access to a stream or river on their property.
