MAY, 1920
Mrs, P. Haugh underwent a
rather critical operation on Sun-
day, by Drs, O'Dwyer and Mac-
Kinnon, and she is progressing
as favourably as possible.
Sam Gascho underwent an op-
eration at London, last week,
and is home and improving as
well as can be expected.
Dr. and Mrs. B. Campbell
and family moved to Tornnto
last week where he has purchased
a medical practice and a resid-
ental property.
Stephen Township council pass-
ed a by-law authorizing the res-
idents of Grand Bend to hold a
vote of their electors to see
whether they are in favour of
asking the Hydro -Electric Power
Commission of Ontario for a
supply of electric power for the
village.
Miss Flora Hess who is teach-
ing school at Centralia, spent
the past few days at her home
in Zurich.
No cows or cattle will be al-
lowed to run at large on the
streets in the village of Zurich,
any running at large will be im-
pounded.
C. Fritz and M. Deitz went
on a fishing trip to the North
country and carne back with a
basket full of speckled beauties,

MAY, 1930
The members of the famous
Zurich Jubilee Band have decid-
ed to discontinue playing for
this season. The reason given for
such a move is insufficient sup-
port and difficulty in getting new
members.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Waiper
of the Parr Line have moved to
Mrs. M. Dietrich's farm, south
of Zurich.

Judge T.M. Costello, Coder-
icli, was in town last week, re-
vising the voter's list for the
forthcoming provincial election.
Miss Ada Wurm, New York,
is at present visiting at the home
of her aunts, Mrs. Emily Fuss
and Mrs, Bertha Bloch, and will
also visit with her father, Jacob
Wurm, at Seafortlt.
Ivan Kalbfleisch has recently
purchased the land of the corner
lot where the well-known Iless
wagon shop has been located for
many a day.
Tlie Lions Club of Zurich wish
to draw the attention all boys
and girls of school age, and
slightly over to the fact that
they are going to sponsor sports
of all kinds during the summer.
Kindly register at the post office.
A public meeting will be held
in the Blake school on Tuesday
night for the purpose of discussing
school area movements.
The managership of the Silver -
woods plant in Zurich has changec
hands. For the past number of
years Mr. William O'Brien has
been in charge of the stop, and
now his son, Leroy. has been
appointed the position.

After an organization meeting
of the I lay Township Young Lib
oral Association held in Zurich
in the past week it was decided
that a social evening and welner
roast would be held at Kalbfleisch
Park, on Wednesday, June 1,
beginning at 9 p.m.
The Zurich Lions held their
1955 Ladies' Night at Monetta
i' 1enard's, Exeter, last Wednes-
day evenin„ May 18, with al-
most one hundred present.
Mr. Ed Gascho, accompanied
by friends of Toronto, spent a
few days on a fishing trip in the
Northern District,
Mr. and Mrs, Gordon Iless
and twin sons, Larry and Garry,
spent the holiday weekend at
the home of friends at Wiarton.
Mr. and i\Irs. Jonathon Ilugill,
of Seaforth, were Sunday visitors
at rhe home of Mr. and Mrs,
Wesley llugill, of town.

Announcement has been grade
that Donald L. O'Brien, Zurich
has been engaged as principal
of the Zurich Public School, ef-
fective with the fall term,
Fourteen members of the
Zurich Lions Club who have been
in the organization since its
charter in 1945, were presented
with their charter monarchs ar
the 15th anniversary of the
charter of the club last Wednes-
day night, in the Community
Centre, Zurich,
William ldiel<le, 1Iensall, was
appointed governor of District
ar a Kinsmen convention at
Windsor over the weekend.
Dianne Dietrich, 13 -year old
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alph-
onse Dietrich, Zurich is in St. •
Joseph's Hospital, London, as a
result of injuries site received
when her bicycle. was in collision
with a car driven by Raymond
Hartman, Zurich, on Tuesday
afternoon.
Miss Olive Peine and Edward
Peine, Detroit have been guests
at rhe home of lvliss Inez 1'ung-
blut, for the past several days.

Hensall United Church Women Entertain
Members of Lutheran Church Women
The general meeting of Hen-
sall United Church Women was
held in Fellowship Hall on Mon-
day, May 25, with St, Peter's
Lutheran Church women of Zur-
ich as guests.
Unit I was in charge of the
meeting and Mrs. Howard Scane,
who chaired the meeting, wel-
comed the visitors and read a
thought provoking poen "All I
worked for, I left Behind."
Musical numbers which de-
lighted the audience were prov-
ided by eleven girls under rhe
direction of Miss Meda Sararas
and hirs. Beatrice Mess, of Zur-
ich. They sang the Twenry-third
Psalm, The Mill, Hunters horn,
Children's Prayer and the Wed-
ding Banquet.
Thence of the meeting was
Stewardship and Mrs. Searle read,
"My Stewardship. " Mrs. Walter
Spencer, who wa in charge of
the devotional, gave a few
thoughts on Stewardship.
Three skits were presented by
Mrs. David Kyle, Ivlrs. Robert
Cook, Mrs. Howard Scare and
Airs. Albert Sitirray, Mrs. Spen-
cer led in prayer. Mrs. William
Fuss acted as pianist for the sing-
ing of llyntn 356; and for the
offering period.
Airs. Harold Currie introduced
the guest speaker, Mrs. G. W.
Tiffin of Wingham, who spoke
on Stewardship. She said that
the world needs the "Plus Sign"
or the Cross. " Take the nega-
tive sign and put yourself there
and you will have a plus sign,
help us all to be plus signs for
Christ." Mrs. Tiffin led in pray-
er.
Mrs, Albert Shirray thanked
the speaker and the girls for their
great contribution to the meeting.
The offering was taken by Mrs.
Ken Elder and Mrs. Jack Consitt
and the Dedication Prayer was
given by Mrs. Scane,
During the business portion,
chaired by the president, Mrs.
Vern Alderdice, reports were
given for supply and welfare,
by Mrs. E. Chipchase; treasur-
er's report, Mrs. Walter Spencer;
visitation, Mrs. Lorne Hay;
social functions, Mrs. Alderdice.
Motions were made to send
$50, for two children to be sent
to Camp and to purchase dishes
for the church.
It was decided to have a
church service in charge of the
U.C.W.
The meeting closed with the
Mary Steward Collect and lunch
was served by Unit I.
Speaking honors

Kathy Cann of South Huron
District High School won the
senior division of the first annual
Huron County French speaking
contest at F.E. Madill Secondary
School in Wingham, Wednesday.
Roberta Neil, also of South
Huron recited a poem called
L'Amouer which she composed
herself and was named runner-up
in the junior competition.
