Appeal Lodged On Judge's Ruling Over
Assessment on McLean Property
An appeal has been filed
with the Ontario Municipal
Board against a Huron County
Judge's decision March 24 that
rural air pollution had reduced
the market value of a Kippen
area farm home.
The case involves a decision
of Judge R.S. Heatherihgton,
whose precedent -setting ruling
cut about $30 from the 1970
tax bill of Mr. and Mrs. Edison
McLean. The McLean had
appealed their 1969 assessment
on the claim that neighbor Grant
McGregor was operating a lig-
uid manure storage lagoon on
his farm that was polluting the
air.
The appeal was tiled in Tor-
onto last Tuesday by E.F. Hall,
the Huron County assessment
commissioner in 1969 who is now
employed with the Huron -Bruce
regional assessment department
It was sanctioned by his superior,
William Vidler, the region's
assessment commissioner.
Mr. Vidler said Thursday it
may be some weeks before the
OMB sets a hearing date and
gives notice to interested parties.
Among those parties are the
Huron Federation of Agriculture,
which called for an immediate
appeal at a meeting April 6 in
Clinton. The federation feels
that Judge Heatherington's dec-
ision could affect every livestock
enterprise even if it is operating
within guidelines set out in a
proposed Code of Practice for
livestock operations.
If farmers are operating with-
in the code, they can receive
a Certificate of Approval from
the air management branch of
the department of energy and
resources management.

Immediate Denture
Often Proves To
Be Successful
Immediate dentures are those
inserted at the same sitting and
immediately after having nat-
ural teeth extracted. This proc-
edure make it possible for the
patient to avoid the inconven-
ience of being without teeth.
Your dentist can advise you
whether or not immediate den-
tures would be advitable in
your case.
You may be disappointed at
your appearance at first because
of the effects of the anaesthetic,
which frequently results in some
swelling, but as the swelling
subsides and your dentures
settle your face will assume its
natural appearance.
Do not remove the dentures
until your dentist tells you. This
is a very important rule to fol-
low, if you wish your dentures
to be a success. Should exces-
sive bleeding or swellingoccur,
notify your dentist. Colwet
compresses applied to your face
at intervals help to ease swel-
ling.
Because the gums are sore,
eating may be difficult at first.
A soft diet with plenty of liq-
uids will help.
Your denture may become
loose as the tissues of your
mouth shrink, and you may dev-
elop sore spots. Usually more
adjustments are necessary with
immediate dentures.
If your denture becomes too
loose your dentist may advise
relining to compensate for the
shrinkage of your mouth tissues.
Your dentist is not responsible
for the shrinkage that occurs,
and a fee is generally charged
for relining unless other arrange-
ments are made beforehand.
