APRIL, 1920
At a meeting of the Zurich
Agricultural Society on Monday
night, the secretary was instruct-
ecf to render an account to the
police village of Zurich for
arrears on their agreement bet-
ween them regarding the use of
the fairgrounds for sports.
1-Iensall council passed a by-
law prohibiting the sale of cig-
arettes.
The Holy bonds of wedlock
were united at St. Boniface
Church on Tuesday, when
Father Stroeder married Miss
Pearl Miller, of Dashwood, to
Bernard Hartman, son of Mr.
and Mrs. John Hartman, of the
Goshen Line.
Blake Women's Institute held
their regular monthly meeting
on Tuesday at the home of Mrs.
R.N. Douglas.
P. Bender, who has been
conducting a cobbling business
in G. Merner's block, moved on
Monday into W.H. Pfile's shoe
store, and will continue as us-
ual in that business.
W.B. Colles was appointed
manager of the Zurich Baseball
team for 1920, when the annual
meeting was held in the Maple
Leaf club rooms.
40 Years Ago
APRIL, 1930
Thirty years ago at Exeter,
eggs were selling in Ontario
at ten cents a dozen, but hens
in those days did not live in
little palaces and were not fed
with silver spoons. A ben was
onlya hen in those days and
hadtoscratch for a living.
Mr. and Mrs. Peter Ravelle
have moved their effects from
Zurich to Grand Bend, where
they have purchased a home
and place of business. We wish
them every success in their new
venture while we regret very
much to lose them as citizens
of Zurich.
Dr. A.J. MacKinnon, who
has for the past month been
taking a post graduate course in
New York City, is expected
home in town on Saturday even-
ing of this week, after which
the Doctor will again attend to
his professional practice.
Mr. and Mrs. Len F. Haist
of Detroit spent Sunday at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. O.F.
Klopp. Mrs. Klopp and daugh-

APRIL, 1945
Mr. and Mrs. George Eick-
meier and sons Ivan and Oscar,
Broadhagen, were Sunday visit-
ors at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Henry Eickmeier.
Lion Dalton Higgs, St. Thomas
was the guest speaker at the reg-
ular meeting of the Zurich Lions
Club, as was Lion Victor Din-
nin of the home club, who spoke
on the subject, "Lion Education':
Kenneth Routledge, Toronto,
.s enjoying a vacation at the
home of Dr. and Mrs. W.B.
Coxon.
James Broadfoot, of the Parr
Line, went fishing at St. Jos-
eph last week, and much to
his surprise caught a large pike
which was 52 inches long.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Break-
ey, who reside in Montreal,
are coming to Zurich, and will
reside in the Hess apartment,
where Mr. Breakey will take
up radio and electric work. We
welcome them back to Zurich.
The citizens of Dashwood
last Tuesday evening gave a
rousing welcome home to Jack
Weber, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Arthur Weber, on his arrival
home from overseas.

APRIL, 1955
Late Saturday afternoon Mr.
Melvin Smith, of the Bronson
Line met with a painful accid-
ent when he and his son Allan
were engaged in cleaning out
the seed drill which was attach-
ed to a team of horses, and who
took fright, bolting and knock-
ing Mr. Smith to the ground,
with the result of one wheel
of the heavy machine passing
over his body.
Corpl. and Mrs. Wilfred
Travis and son Gary who had.
spent some time with the lat-
ter's parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Arnold Kuntz left Friday to take
up residence in Winnipeg.
Mrs, Joseph Foster of town
was taken to London Hospital
for treatment the past week,
and is a very ill person. We
hope for a speedy recovery.

Mrs. J. W. Merner is spending
the week visiting with her dau-
ghters at Milverton and Elora,
and also with relatives at Elmira,
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Flaxbard
and Mr. and Mrs. F•Iarold Thiel
attended the funeral of the late
Mrs. Sidney Dolrnadge in Sea -
forth on Saturday.

APRIL, 1960
Plans are under way for the
official opening of R.C., S.S.
No. 7, Hay, on Sunday, June
12, it was learned from Rev.
Father C.A. Doyle, the parish
priest.
Last Friday evening a number
of friends and relatives of Mr.
and Mrs. Emmerson Erb gather-
ed at their home to honor them
on their 25th wedding anniver-
sary.
Plans are under way by mem-
bers of the Zurich Lions Club
for the celebration of the 15th
anniversary of the organization.
The property and hone of
Leaton Siemon, in the east part
of the village, has been sold
to Jack Turkheim. Previously
known as the Siemon estate, Mr.
Siemon purchased the place
after the passing of his mother.
Mr. and Mrs. Siemon plan on
moving to California.
Bryan Geoffrey has returned
to Halifax, where he is stationed
with the Royal Canadian Navy,
after spending a leave at the
home of his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Clarence Geoffrey.
