STORM FELLS TREE - Last Thursday afternoon's severe snow storm took it's toll at the property
of Wayne Horner, in the east end of the village of Zurich, when it toppled a 40 -foot spruce tree.
In the course of the fall the tree disrupted two hydro services, and the local hydro crew were called
out to remedy the situation. Superintendent Douglas Armstrong, on top of the ladder, and Gary
Maxwell, are seen here as they repair damage to the services.
Education Budget To Be Presented
To Board At Next Regular Meeting
(by Shirley J. Keller)
Roy Dunlop, business admin-
istrator for the Huron County
Board of Education said Monday
evening he expects to have some-,
thing concrete concerning the
1970 education budget in the
county by the next regular meet-
ing, April 20.
He said the calculations in
mill rate for the municipalities
which are collecting taxes twice -
annually this year are anxious
to know what education costs
will be. It was suggested that
in municipalities where it was
necessary to issue tax bills before
the board had finalized the bud-
get, the first billing could be
estimated in relation to last
year's figures and any increase
could be included in the final
billing.
Mrs. J. W. Wallace, Goderich,
inquired what steps had been
taken by the board to inform
the public that two Huron County
citizens interested in educat-
ional matters could attend a
school board conference at the
Inn on the Park, Toronto, from
June 15 to June 17. The topic
will be 'the school in the com-
munity."
She learned that no effort had
been made to invite an one
outside the board to the confer-
ence, but that persons interested
in attending should contact the
board office as soon as possible.
Reservations would be made on
a first-come, first-served basis,
said Mr. Cochrane.
A report to the board showed
that MOH Dr. G. P.A. Evans
had requested that aspirin and
other headache remedies not be
administered by school personnel.
Such things as stomach hem-
orrhage and possible medical -
legal implications were present-
ed as arguments. In future,
pupils requiring such medication
will have to provide their own
supply.
John D. Cochrane advised
the board that rental for increas-
ed accomodation in the former
Nurses' Residence at Clinton
will cost $70 .er month,

Petition For Access to 401 Highway

ich, at their regular meeting
last Thursday night, endorsed
a resolution from the town of
Goderich, to petition the prov-

lane highway to link Huron and
Perth counties with highway 401.
The petition says potential
industries have found the God-
erich area unsuitable because
of the transportation situation.
In other business of the meet-
ing, council rescinded an earl-
ier motion appointing the firm
of Richardson and Laken as
village auditors, and made a
new motion naming the present
firm of A.M. Harper as the
auditor for the. year 1970.
Buildingpermits were issued
to the folowing persons: Arlet
to Hess, $800 for renovations;
Dr. C.J. Wallace, $1000 for
alterations; and Albert Deichert,
$13, 500 for a new home,
After receiving a letter from
Earl Oesch, requesting a dead
tree to be removed from in
front of his home, it was agreed
that the tree in question should
be cut down.
Correspondence from the
county of Huron indicated to
council that there would be a
reduction this year in the county
mill rate for taxation purposes.
