,Monday proved to be a big

they clumped Sunderland 9-3 in
the fourth game of their best
of five series to win the all -
Ontario title in the "E" category.
The game was played in Sunder-
land.
In a game that witnessed the
poorest pair of referees of the
entire season, Pat Bedard bang-
ed in five big goals to lead the
locals to their victory. Bill
Bedard aided the cause scoring
three goals and collecting.three
assists. Gerald Weido aded the
extra marker and chipped in
with five assists.

by Don Gordon with two and

period after pressing hard against
the Zurich team, Sunderland

Week, were put out of further
competition after winning one
game.
ZURICH 4 - BELMORE 2
Zurich played the first game
of the big event and came home
with a 4-2 victory over Belmore.
Wayne Schilbe opened the
scoring for Zurich and before
two periods were over Belmore
had scored twice to take a
slight 2-1 edge going into the
last stanza.

at 2-2 and minutes later Greg
Love and Barry Hess each scored
once, to give Zurich their vict-

were downed 6-1 to eliminate
them from further competition
in the week-long program.
Belmont had only a 2-1 lead
by the end of the second period
and it looked as if Zurich had
a chance to come home with a
second victory, but in the last
stanza everything started going

the stick of Don Gordon. ,Two
minutes later Zurich started
rallying and before the period
ended Gerald Weido and Bill
Bedard had shot the locals into
a 2-1 lead.
Before one minute had passed
in the second stanza, Bill Bed-
ard started Zurich off on a five
goal rally. At the 1:10 mark Pat
Bedard gave Zurich a 4-1 lead,
and within two minutes, start-
ing at 14:45, Sunderland scored
their last two goals. At the 17:
45 mark Zurich again rallied for
three goals to give them' a com-
fortable 7-4 lead at the end of
two periods. The three goals
were scored by Pat Bedard, with
two and Bill Bedard one.
In the last stanza Zurich play-
ed a strong game of defensive
hockey, holding Sunderland to
a stand -still for niost of the
period. Sunderland, after real-
iing they couldn't possibly win,
started playing rough hockey and
caused Bill Bedard to draw blood
twice. The referees seemed to
always be looking the other way
or didn't want to see the sight
of blood and so didn't hand out
any penalties in the mishaps.
Pat Bedard scored the two
Zurich goals in the last stanza,
one at the 11:00 mark and the
other at 15:10 mark.
There were only eleven min-
or penalties called with Zurich
getting the cheap calls and draw•
ing six, while Sunderland got
away with anything and received
five.
The Zurich team have played
hard all season and well -deserve
the appreciation of all local
fans.
LOSE SECOND GAME
Last Wednesday night the
Zurich Bantgms fell short of a
6-3 defeat to the Sunderland
team in the OMNA final play -
downs. The loss of this game
forced a fourth game in Sunder-
land,
Zurich took a 2-0 lead in the
early minutes of the opening
period, only to see Sunderland
come hack and tie the game at
2-2 before the period ended.
Rick Grenier's goal was the
opener for Zurich at the 2:43
mark taking a pass from Gerald
Weido at centre, went breaking
in on a breakaway and flipped
the puck in the top left hand
corner. Minutes later Gerald
Weido gave Zurich their 2-0
lead which was short-lived as
Don Gordon and Bola Marquis
each scored their first goals for
Sunderland.
In the second period things
started getting tough for the
Zurich gang so S.underland's
Bob Marquis blinked the red
light to put them ahead 3-2.
Zurich, now pressing the play
as much as possible, didn't tie
the game until the 19:45 stark
of the second to end the period
3-3, with Bill Bedard accomtnt-
ing for the goal.
Both teams started out rather
slow in the last stanza, both
looking for extra breaks to put
theta ahead. At the 9:26 stark
the roof starting to fall in as
Bob Marquis again scored for
Sunderland to shoot then into
a 4-3 lead. Minutes later Don
Gordon banged in his second
goal to give them a pretty com-
fortable lead. At the 14:45 marl<
Sunderland was awarded a pen-
alty shot because a Zurich play-
er covered the puck in the
crease. Bob Marquis deked goal-
ie Don Ayotte to tie the series
to one game each.
There were nine minor pen-
alties called With Sunderland
drawing five and Zurich four.
WIN THIRD GAME
Last Saturday night the Zurich
Bantams came up with another
brilliant performance as they
trounced Sunderland 7-2 in the
third game of the best of five
final series for the all -Ontario
championship.
Zurich was never behind as
Pete Hesse opened the scoring
for the local crew at the 4:50
mark of the first period. Mid-
way through the period, how-
ever, Bruce Prentice found the
range to tie the game at 1-1
at the end of one period.
The second period saw Zurich
take a slight 3-2 edge, and it
looked as if it could be a tight
garne all the way. Again at the
4:50 mark Gerald Weido shot
Zurich into a 2-1 lead and less
than a minute later Pat Bedard
scored his first of the garne to
give Zurich a 3-1 edge. At the
G:30 mark Don Gordon scored
Sunderland's second goal to put
them back in the game again.
Zurich pressed the play for the
remainder of the period, trying
to increase their lead.by a few
more goals, but couldn't seem
to conte up with those all-im-
portant breaks.
In the last stanza Sunderland
did everything but slip the puck
by Don Ayotte in the Zurich net,
who combined with Dave Cyr
and Rick Grenier who both play-
ed a solid game on defence,
spoiled their every chance. The
period was only 1:15 old when
Dave Cyr and Rick Grenier cap-
italized on a scoring play to
shoot Zurich into a 4-2 lead.
The rest of the game was Zurich
all the way --Pat Bedard scoring
his second goal to make it 5-2.
Things were pretty well evenly
matched until the 17:58 minute
mark when Pete Hesse brought
the fans alive again with his
second goal. About a minute
later Pat Bedard capitalized
on his third goal to end the
scoring at 7-2,
There were a total of 12
minor penalties called in the
game with Zurich drawing seven
and Sunderland 5.

time victory for the first win of
the day.
The game was tough all the
way for Zurich as London came
up with the first goal of the
garne in the first period and
Zurich couldn't seem to conte
up with the tying goal for the
remainder of the stanza.
It wasn't until the last stanza
when Zurich tied the scoring
at 1-1, and as neither team
scored for the remainder of the
period an overtime session had
to be played.
In the overtime period Karry
Bedard scored the Zurich goal
to give them their victory. The
first Zurich goal was scored by
Grant Love.
ZURICH 2 STONEY -BROOK 1

The Canadiens fought hard to

when their efforts failed the
