Lose Series to Exeter
The 1969-70 season for the
Zurich Dominions came to a
dismal ending last Friday and
Sunday nights, when the local
squad dropped two more games
to the injury -riddled Exeter
Hawks, in the finals for the
group championship of the
western grouping of the OHA
Junior D.
Friday night in Exeter the
Hawks trampled the Dominions
10-2 in the fifth game of the
series, and then pack in Zurich
on Sunday night the locals fared
little better as they were troun-
ced 9-3 in the sixth game.
Exeter took the series four games
to two.
After losing the first game of
the series to Exeter, the Dom-
inions roared back strong to
take the next two games in con-
vincing fashion. Theri they hit
'the skids again and lost three in
a row to a team who was play-
ing with at least seven midget
players in their line-up. Four
or five of the regular Hawks
were either out with injuries or
sickness in the final series.
As estimated, a crowd of
close to 1400, the largest in
Zurich for many years, was on
hand to watch the locals go
down to defeat on Sunday night..
At least a couple of hundred
fans saw little of the game, as
they were standing five and six
deep at the ends and along the
sides,
The Hawks took a commanding
5-1 lead in the first period, but
were outscored 2-1 ih the second.
Then in the third they came
back strong and scored three
more unanswered goals.
Four Exeter players, Joe
O'Rourke, Larry Laye, Peter
Glover and LarryHaugh, scored
two goals each or the winners,
while the extra goal was ac-
counted for by Ron Lindenfield.
For Zurich, John McKinley
scored two goals while Bill
Stirling banged in the third
marker.
A total of 31 penalties were
called in the game, with 17 of
them going to the hustling
Exeter squad. In the closing
minutes of the game Bruce
Schoenhals and Barry Ba nham
engaged in a brief roundof
fisticuffs, and both players
were sent to their dressing
rooms with a major and a 10 -
minute misconduct penalty,
