Mrs. Albert Shirray, who was a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital London, where she underwent surgery, returned hone on Fri- day. harles Mickle, Hamilton, left Sunday by plane for Jam- aica where he will spend three days and then fly to the Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, British West Indies, to spend • the remainder of his holiday. He will fly back to Canada on the Monday. Mrs. Ken McLean is a pat- ient in Victoria Hospital, Lond- on. Wedding PLAYFOOT - CLARKE A quiet double -ring ceremony united in marriage Ethel Shirley Clarke, daughter of Mrs. Ray Clarke, Mitchell to Raymond Allan Playfoot, son of Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Playfoot, Exeter. Rev. E.E. New performed the ceremony on March 14, at Monk - ton United Church. Given in marriage b her brother, JIM Clarke of Wartburg, the bride wore a street -length lace dress and carried a bouquet of pink roses. Attending the bride was Mrs. Ruth Clarke, Wartburg, and Mrs. Emilie Playfoot, Alvinston. They were gowned alike in mint green with white accessories and wore a corsage of deep pink roses. Best man was Ralph Playfoot, Alvinston, brother of the groom. A reception was held at the home of the bride's mother, in Mitchell, after which the happy couple left for Niagara Falls and Bangor, Pennsylvania, the bride travelling in a blue en- semble with a corsage of pink roses. Mr. and Mrs. Playfoot will reside in Exeter where the groom is employed. Correspondent: Maude Hedden Mrs. Janet MacKinnon is a patient in South Huron Hospital, Exeter. 0 Amber Rebekahs Observe Birthday Amber Rebekah Lodge ob- served their 21st birthday party last Wednesday, entertaining guests from Goderich, Clinton, and Exeter lodges. Final plans were made for a dessert euchre, March 25. District deputy president, Mrs. Margaret Bowra, of Goderich, who was a guest at the birthday party will make her official spring visit to this lodge in April. Past Grand's were remind- ed of the district meetingto be held in Goderich in Apri Court Whist was played. Prize for birthday nearest to birthday party date went to Mrs. Gladys Coleman. In a draw for first prize, an African violet, the winner was Mrs. Annie Reid, second prize an Easter egg, was won by Mrs. J. E . McE wen. 0 MEETING FOUR On Wednesday, March 18, at 7:00 p.m. the two Zurich 4-H groups held their fourth meeting. The meeting was opened by the 4-H pledge. The discussion "Fruit afor Breakfast" was given by Mrs. Hogg. She talked about pointers for fruit cups, and why break- fast is important. All the members took part in the demonstration. Each one took their turn at cutting up an orange, grapefruit, or banana. After they were cut up they were combined together to make fruit cups. Mr. and Mrs. Gary McAsh and son of London visited at the borne of Mr. and Mrs. William McAsh. The local Boy Scouts will hold their spring paper -drive in the near future. The skating rin]t which has been in operation continually since before Christmas was closed last Saturday. The maple syrup season got off to a slow start last week, and the outlook is for a short season. Special Easter Services will be held in the Varna and Goshen United Churches next Sunday, with the pastor, Rev. M. Mor- rison in charge.. 0 Police Report Three Area 'Crashes The Exeter detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police, during the week of March 15 to 21, investigated three area accidents, in which only one person received minor injuries. Eleven charges were laid under the Highway Traffic Act, and three under the Liquor Control Act, while an additional 22 warnings were handed out under the same Highway Traffic Act. During the same week, the detachment investigated two cases of break and enter, along with 12 other investigations of minor nature. The accidents which the men investigated were as follows: On Sunday, March 15 at 2:20 a, m a pickup truck operated by Sandra Dietrich of R.R.2, Dashwood, lost control on No. 4 County Road west of Shipka on the icy road surface and struck some guide posts. Dam- age was estimated at $210. Provincial Constable F.L. Gif- fin investigated. On Wednesday, March 18, at 1:45 p.m. a truck operated by George Suplat of Zurich collided with the rear of a truck operated by Edgar Stein- bach of R.R.3, Zurich, on No 11 County Road, north of Winchelsea. Damage was est- imated at $195. Provincial Constable F.L. Giffin, invest- igated. On Saturday March 21, at 9:00 p.m. a car operated by Lawrence A. Regier of R.R.2, Zurich, collided with a post on Mill Street in Hensall. Regier suffered a cut on the chin. Dam- age was estimated at $200. Provincial Constable J.A. Wriglu investigated. Mrs. Whitehouse, a new mem- ber was presented with an In- stitute pin and hand book. Fines were paid for not wear- ing the Institute pin. Mrs. Robert Bell will attend the Leadership Forum in Mitchel] Mrs. J. Sinclair gave the motto "We should all be like the cabbage work to get ahead. " The roll call was answered by introducing your friend, bringing a gift of clothing for Children's Aid Society and wearing something green. Mrs. McKay, Mrs. Caldwell, Mrs. Triebner and Mrs. Kins- man sang,several Irish numbers. Mrs. mmerson Coleman commented on the decorating of a cake and tickets were sold with proceeds going to the Bunny Bundle. Lynn Alderdice was the lucky winner. A hat parade displayed many new and unusual models; the most original was.won by Mrs. Robert Bell; the most unusual, Mrs. Brodie; the prettiest, Mrs. Ken McKay. During the evening prizes were awarded to the ladies who had a whole grapefruit for breakfast, Mrs. Love and Mrs. E. Coleman; the lady without dentures, Mrs. Charles Eyre; the most vivid coloured lingerie, Mrs. Davidson and Mrs. Hoggartl Women with a run in her stock- ing; Mrs. Davidson, Mrs. klend- erson, Mrs. Brodie, Mrs. Stew- art Pepper, Mrs. Van Wieren; the happiest face, Mrs. Van Weiren; women kissing her husband good-bye, Mrs. Hog- garth and Mrs. Drummond. Remainder of the evening was spent playing Wahu after which a conundrum lunch was served which proved very amusing.
