Zurich and Exeter Series Tied at 2-2;
Play in Exeter Friday, Back Here Sunday
The Zurich Dominions and
Exeter Hawks, after four comp-
leted games in their best -of -
seven playoff for the group
championship in OHA Junior
D Ranks, are all tied up at two
victories each. Exeter took rhe
series opener last Wednesday
night on their home ice, 7-4,
only to have Zurich roar back'
with a 5-1 victory on their home
ice on Friday night. Then on
Sunday afternoon back in Exeter,
the Zurich crew came up with
a thrilling 6-4 win to take a
lead in the series, but on Tues-
day night in Zurich they came
out on the short end of a 6-2
score.
Next game in the series is
scheduled for this Friday night
in Exeter, with the sixth game
back in Zurich on Sunday night,
March 22. If the series goes the
full seven games, the crucial
tilt will be played back in Ex-
eter next week.
EXE TER 6 - ZURICH 2
The Dominions came up
with their poorest effort in the
series on Tuesday night before
a home -town crowd of close to
1000. John Loader shot the loc-
als into a 1-0 lead in the first
peridd when he cashed in on
an assist from Gary Kyle.
The second period was only
a minute and a half gone when
Exeter tied the score, with Bob
Rowe being the marksman. With
less than 'a minute left in the
session, Ron Lindenfield scored
his first of two goals to give
Exeter a 2-1 lead, while Zurich
was playing short-handed.
A goal by Larry Laye and two
by Barry Ba ynham early in the
third period assured the visiting
Hawks of a victory in the fourth
game. flje final Zurich goal
was scored by John McKinley
at 8.23, with the assist going
to Aubrey Bedard. Then at the
17.30 mark Ron Lindenfield
scored an insurance marker for
the Hawks, while both teams
were short-handed.
Zurich came out on the short
end of the penalties, being
assess 11 minors and a major,
while the Hawks were only cal-
led for nine minor infractions.
ZURICH 6 - EXETER 4
On Sunday afternoon in Exeter
the Dominions spotted the Hawks
a 2-1 lead at the end of the first
period, then went on to trample
them with four unanswered goals
in the second session. In the
third period Exeter came up
with two more goals, while
Zurich chalked up another with
less than a minute left in the
game.
John McKinley and Bill Stirl-
ing paced the Zurich attack
with two goals each, while
John Loader and Stu Mustard
each scored once. Along with
his goal, Loader picked up
three assists.
For Exeter Randy Parsons
scored twice, while Pete Klein-
stiver and Joe O'Rourke each
banged in one.
The game was seven minutes
and 34 second old when John
McKinley teamed up with Kev-
in McKinnon on a picture play
and cleanly beat John Hayter
in the Exeter net. Two quick
goals by Randy Parsons, at 12.10
and 12.47 gave Exeter their 2-1
lead at the end of the period.
In the second stanza it was
Zurich all the way, as the boys
pumped four big goals by Hayter,
Bill Stirling started things off
when he converted a beautiful
pass from Loader at 3.28 to tie
the score at 2-2. Four minutes
later he scored again, with
Loader and Kevin McKinnon
earning the assists. John McKin-
ley slapped in a pass from Bob
Langille at the 15.39 marls, and
at 17.34 Loader scored from Stu
Mustard and Stirling.
The Hawks came back strong
in the third period, and at the
.41 second mark Kleinstiver
scored to bring the quiet Exeter
crowd to their feet. At 13.24
Joe O'Rourke kept things alive
for the Hawks when he scored
their fourth goal. A penalty to

Meet in Zurich
Meeting three was held in
the Township Hall by groups
Zurich three and Zurich four,
on Thursday, March 10, at 7.00
p. m. Helen Blackwell led with
the 4-H pledge.
A demonstration, stewed
dried fruit, was given by Cheryl
Turkheim while Sally Dietrich.

While the dessert was being
cooked Mrs. Finkbeinerave
the discussion "Fruits all Year
Round". She discussed canned
fruit, frozen fruit, and dried
fruit.
At the end of the meeting
everyone had a taste of the fruit
dessert.
The next meeting will be
held on Wednesday, March 18,
in the Township Hall.

Ron Moore, of Exeter, for hold-
ing the puck, at 18.19 proved
to -be the back -breaker for the
Hawks, and with less than a
minute left in regulation time
Stu Mustard beat Hayter for the
insurance goal.
A crowd, estimated at over
1200, saw 12 penalties called
against Exeter, including one
major and one misconduct.
Zurich was assessed 13 misdea-
mours, including one major.
Defensively, Gary Geoffrey
in the Zurich net and Bill Taylor
on defence stood out for the
locals.
ZURICH 5 - EXETER 1
On Friday night in Zurich,
the Dominions won their first
game of the season against
Exeter in convincing fashion,
when they registered a 5-1
victory. They were never be-
hind as they scored two goals
in both the first and second
periods, and then added an
extra in the third. Stu Mustard,
with two big goals, paced the
local crew, while Kevin McKin-
non, Shane McKinnon and Bill
Stirling each scored once. Bob
Rowe scored the lone Exeter
goal in the second period.
Mustard put the Dominions
on the scoresheet at 6.07 of the
first period when he rapped in
a pass from John Loader and
Bill Stirling. At 16.47 Stirling
banged in a pass from Bill Tay-
lor.
Shane McKinnon unleashed
a sizzling slap -shot from in-
side the blueline to completely
fool John Hayter in the Hawk's
net, at 13.11 of the second
period. About one minute later
Bob Rowe managed to beat
Geoffrey for the lone Exeter
goal. With three minutes left
to play in the second session,
Kevin McI<innon banged in a
pass from Aubrey Bedard and
Ron Corriveau to give the Zur-
ich crew a 4-1 lead.
Mustard scored the only goal
of the third period, at the nine -
minute nark, to salt away
victory number one for the hun-
gry Dominions.
Only nine penalties were cal-
led against Zurich in the game,
while the Exeter crew picked
up a total of 12, including a
misconduct.
EXETER 7 - ZURICH 4
Tired after a long and stren-
uous series against Belmont, the
Zurich Dominions lost the first
game of the best -of -seven
series to Exeter last Wednesday
night. The locals were playing
without John Loader, who was
still out witha bruised knee,
and Ron Henry; out with a sev-
ere cut on his hand. As well,
Ron Corriveau was playing with
a badly bruised hip, and Bob
Langille was recuperating from
an ankle injury.
Zurich jumped into a 2-0
and 3-1 lead early in the first
period, before their legs start-
ed disappearing from underneath
them. They had just eliminated
Belmont in a tough eight -game
series two nights previous, and
the effects were still showirT.
Bob Cook and Kevin McKin-
non each scored twice in the
losing cause for Zurich, while
for the Exeter crew Barry Bayn-
ham and Joe O'Rourke scored
two each, with singles going
to Pete Glover, Ron Linden -
field and Larry Haugh.
Exeter roared back from the
3-1 deficit with three big goals
in the last four minutes of the
opening session, to take a 4-3
lead. They added three more
in the second.
Zurich's final marker came
at the 13.31 mark of the third
period.
Both teams were assessed 14
penalties, including majors to
13111 Taylor and Ron Janke, of
Exeter, for their fisticuff battle.
Janke came out even on the
penalty end of the affair, but
he fell short on the fight end.
He had to be taken to hospital
for repairs to a broken jaw.
Zurich Bantams Reach Finals For
All -Ontario Title; Head North Next

Last Friday night the Zurich
Bantams won the second game
of the semi- final series for the
OMHA championship, as they
downed the Ilderton crew 7-2.
By winning the semi-final series,
they now advance to the finals
against the team winning the
Playoffs Begin
In House League

The semi-final series of the
House League play is now over
and the Canadiens and the Hawks
will be playing for the House
League trophy.
CANADIENS 3 - LEAFS 2
In the first game of the House
League, Saturday, the Canad-
iens won their semi-final series,
edging the Leafs 3-2.
John flaggitt, with one goal,
and David Clarke, with two in
the first period, gave the Can-
adiens their victory.
The Leaf goals were also
scored in the first period with
Greg Love and Grant Love being
the marksmen.
There were four penalties
called in the game with the
Leafs drawing three and the
Canadiens one.
HAWKS 4 - BRUINS 2
In the second game Saturday
morning, the Hawks also won
their semi-final series as they
ed ed the Bruins 4-2.
IDanny Meidinger scored two
goals in the first period to give
the Hawks a 2-0 lead before
the Bruins gained two goals
scored by Barry Hess and David
Schilbe, to put then back in
the game.
The next two periods saw the
Hawks come up with their vic-
tory with Stephen Haberer scor-
ing in the second and Fred
Mointnersteeg in the last stanza.
There were a total of eight
penalties handed out in the
game with the victors drawing
five and the Bruins three.

Warsaw and Sunderland.
A goal scored by Dan Schilbe,
with a man advantage in the first
period,ave Zurich a 1-0 lead.
Minutes later John Mommersteeg
banged in a pass from Dave Cyr
to give Zurich a 2-0 lead going
out of the first period.
By the end of the second things
got very tense as Ilderton carne
up with two goals, while hold-
ing Zurich off the score -sheet
to even things at 2-2. Ilderton's
goals were accounted for by
Mike McLurlye and Rodney
Troursion, both unassisted.
In the third period it was
Zurich all the way as they bang-
ed in five more goals to give
the locals their victory. At the
3.40 minute mark Pat Bedard
shot Zurich into a 3-2 lead on
a passing play front Gerald
Weido. Midway through the
period Gerald Weido gave Zur-
ich a comfortable lead.
In less than three minutes Pat
Bedard blinked the red light
twice to give Zurich a 6-2 lead.
The final goal came at the 17
minute mark with Pete Hesse
accounting for it.
Each team drew five penalties
with Zurich having the misfort-
une of losing strong defencenlan
Rick Grenier, who was given
a match penalty in the first
period.

Make Pudding

Meeting three of tie Zurich
V 4-H club was: held March 10
at the home of Mrs. Brian Lam-
priere. All members were pres-
ent and answered to the roll
call, "My favourite variety of
apples and why."
Debbie and Janet McKinley
demonstrated how to make oven
steamed fruit pudding while Toni
and Rita Pennings demonstrated
how to make the sauce of the
fruit pudding. Most members
liked this fruit dish.
We discussed dry, canned and
frozen fruits. Our leader obtain-
ed a film on fruits which will
be seen in the Town Hall in
Zurich some time in the near
future. Our next meeting will
be Tuesday, March 17.
