T. L, Wurm is at the present
time on the sick list.
Miss Lila Melick left for Clin-
ton on Monday, where she will
attend business college.
Henry Hoffman of Dashwood,
is visiting relatives in Kitchener
at present.
George Cook, of Dashwood,
was a visitor in the village on
Tuesday last.
Harry Weber, of Preston,
called on friends in the village
over Sunday.
A quiet wedding was solem-
nized at the Evangelical par-
sonage on Tuesday evening,
when Miss Maud, youngest
daughter of Mrs. McBride of the
village, was united in marriage
to Albert H. Schnell, of Cal-
gary, Alberta.
Grand Bend is now an incorp-
orated
village, and will assume
the reigns of government as an
urban municipality.
Julius Thiel, who is employed
in Seaforth, spent Sunday at
his home here,

1\1r. and Mrs. Norman Gascho,
who have resided in Mr. George
Deichert's dwelling, attached
to his butcher shop, are moving
their effects into the house
owned and recently vacated by
Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Eallfas.
Mr. Fred Siemon of the Blue
Water Highway, south of St.
Joseph, met with a very painful
accident the other day while
engaged in cutting down a tree
in Walker's Grove. In some way
a large limb rebounded and hit
Mr. Siemon on the ax n, fract-
uring it near the wrist.
The funderal of the late
Thomas Murdock was held on
Mondy from his home at Hensall_
Mr. and Mrs. Morley Witmer
and little Betty, of Detroit,
sent Saturday and Sunday with
friends and relatives here.

MARCH, 1945
Rev. Lloyd Kalbfleisch, of
Elmira, spent a few days last
week with his mother and other
relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. Neil Witmer
and Judy, of Mitchell, visited
their parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Blake Horner, and also Mr. and
Mrs. Orville Witmer, over the
weekend.
McKinley Hatchery suffered
some loss through the ice storm
which took place last Wednesday
when hydro was disturbed for
hours.
In the passing of Martin Wurm
on February 28, Zurich's oldest
resident has passed away. Al-
ways being of a cheerful nature,
he will be greatly missed.
George Deichert, Zurich, and
Martin Laub, Dashwood, were
in Toronto last week attending
the annual locker convention.
R.F. Stade and Mrs. Clara
Decker motored to London on
Sunday, and were accompanied
home by Mrs. Stade, who has
been a patient in the hospital
there.

Mrs. Lloyd O'Brien has re-
turned home after being a pat-
ient in the Hospital, at London, •
Robert William Penhale, 70,
of Stanley Township, passed
away on Tuesday, March 8, at
the hone of his brother.
Eugene, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Ross Guenther, had the mis-
fortune to fracture his collar
bone while being tackled during
a football game at Dashwood
Public School.
Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Schoch
and family spent a pleasant weel•
end visiting with friends at
Fraser, Michigan.
Mr. George Deichert and
Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Haberer
who enjoyed a most pleasant •
trip to Florida, returned home
last week, much invigorated
by their trip to the sunny south.

MARCH, 1960
Close to 150 persons attended
the annual Ladies Night of the
Dashwood Men's Club, held
in Grand Bend on Monday night.
A highlight of the evening was
a farewell presentation to Mr.
and Mrs. Clare Irwin, who are
leaving shortly for Fenelon Falls,
where Mr. Irwin has been trans-
ferred as manager of the Bank
of Montreal.
Miss Pearl Wtutz has returned
to her home after visiting with
her relatives at Exeter.
John Stecicle, who has been
a patient in South Huron Hosp-
ital, has returned to his home.
Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Rader,
Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Salmon and
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Schroeder
attended the Ontario Hydro
Convention at the Royal York
Hotel, Toronto, last week.
A two-storey frame house
owned by Mrs. Laura Ings was
destroyed by fire at Varna last
Thursday.

Entertain Guests
The April meeting of the
United Church Women of Cal-
vary United church was held
March 13 with the ladies of the
Lutheran Ladies Aid and Mis-
sionary Society as their guests.
Mrs. E, R. Guenther was chair -
lady and introduced the guest
speaker, Mrs. Fred Cords, of
St, Catherines who showed pict-
ures on her trip to the Holy Land
and gave vivid description.
Miss Mary Ann Hayter favored
with two solos. Mrs, Carl Oest-
reicher led in prayer and Mrs.
Hugh Boyle react the scripture.
Mrs. Don Gaiser, president,
dealt with the business. An
invitation to attend the Tea and
Bake sale at Greenway United
Church was accepted. The sec-
ond visit to the Rescue Mission
is London will be made April 9.
The London Conference of the
U.C.W. is being held in Strat-
ford March 23, 24, and 25. The
theme is "Wide Horizons Launch
out into the Deep."
New Economist
For Huron County
Miss Catherine M. Hunt was
recently appointed to succeed
Mrs, Larry Wheatley as Home
Economist for Huron County.
Miss Hunt received her pri-
mary and secondary school
education in St. Thomas. When
her family moved to Clinton,
she completed her Grade 13 at
the Central Huron Secondary
School. She is a 1968 Home
Economics (Textile major)
graduate of the University of
Western Ontario.
Miss Hunt is interested in work-
ing with people and is looking
forward to her work with 4-1-1
Homemaking Club members
and leaders as well as with var-
ious farm and home manage-
ment activities in Huron.
