Dominions Win Series in Eight Games;
Meet Exeter Hawks For Group Champion
With Gary Geoffrey coming
up with an outstanding pperform-
.nee in goal, the Zurich Dom-
inions on Monday night won
their semi-final series in the
western grouping of the OHA
Junior D League, beating Bel-
mont Sunsets 3-1 in the eighth
game. The seventh game of
the series in Belmont on Sun-
day night ended in a 4-4 over-
time tie, so a sudden -death
game was ordered played on
neutral ice, at Centralia In-
dustrial Park.
The Dominions came from
behind last Wednesday night in
Zurich in the sixth game of the
series, beating Belmont 6-3,
and forcing a seventh game on
Sunday night.
By virtue of their winning the
semi-final series, the Zurich
team will now meet league -
leading Exeter Hawks in a best-
of- seven series for the group
title and the right to advance
into all -Ontario playdowns. The
first game of this series was
played last night in Exeter,
while the second game is sch-
eduled for Friday night in the
Zurich Arena. Third game in
the series will be played in
Exeter on Sunday afternoon,
and the fourth is back in Zurich
next Tuesday night.
ZURICH 3 - BELMONT 1
A sizzling slap -shot by Bill
Taylor at the .43 second mark
of the first period completely
fooled Bob Bishop in the Bel-
mont net, and seemed to supply
the fire a short-handed Zurich
crew needed to go on and win
the eighth game of the series
on Monday night. Less than
three minutes later Kevin Mc-
Kinnon banged in a pass from
captain Ron Coriiveau, to give
the Dominions an early 2'- 0
lead. Despite many close calls,
neither team managed to score
for the rest of the period.
At the 4.45 mark of the sec-
ond period Aubrey Bedard scored
on a pass from Bruce Schoenhals,
to give Zurich what looked like
a comfortable lead. Throughout
the balance of the middle stanza
both teams tried desperately to
score but the both goal -tenders
came up with sparkling perform-
ances.
In the third period Belmont
• came out flying, and forced
the play into the Zurich end mon
of the time. Finally, at the
6.25 mark Ed Landon slapped a
loose puck by Geoffrey to give
the Sunsets new life. For the
balance of the game, it was
simply a case of Belmont trying
desperately to score and Geo-
ffrey hand- cuffing them every

time. With two minutes left in
the game Belmont pulled their
goalie in favour of an extra
attacker, and still Geoffrey
turned them aside.
Only 14 minor penalties, and
one misconduct, were handed
out in the game, with each
team drawing seven. The mis-
conduct went to Belmont.
Zurich played without the ser-
vices of centre John Loader, who
was out with a pulled muscle in
his knee, and Ron Henry, who
is nursing a bad gash in his
hand. To make matters still
worse, Bob Langille was forced
to leave the game early in the
first period with an ankle injury.
Along with all these problems
Stu Mustard was suffering from
a bad bruise to his forehead
from the night before, which
took seven or eight stitches to
mend.
A crowd, estimated at close
to 900, were on hand for the
game.
BELMONT 4 - ZURICH 4
Playing before a packed house
in Belmont on Sunday night, the
same two teams battled to a 4-4
overtime tie, in which neither
could come up with a goal.
Following the tie in the seventh
game of the series, the OHA
ordered a sudden -death game
to be played the following night,
on neutral ice. Apparently
Centralia was the only arena
available.
Kevin McKinnon gave Zurich
a 1-0 lead at the 2.10 mark in
the first period, and then at
12.55 John Wiltsie scored for
Belmont to even things up at
1-1.
At the 2.00 minute mark of
the second period Bill Taylor
banged in an unassisted goal to
give the Dominions a lead again,
but at the 9.23 mark Charlie
Murray scored for Belmont to
tie the score at 2-2. Three
minutes later Ralph Jones scored
for the Sunsets to give them the
lead for the first time, and then
one minute later Zurich roared
Zurich Mites
Lose to Exeter
The Zurich Mites lost their
first game of the season on
Monday night when they were
edged out 3-2 in an exhibition
contest with Exeter. The win-
ners scored once in each period,
while Zurich scored both their
goals in the third.
Marksmen for the local squad
were Grant Love and Steven
Grainger.

back with John Loader scoring
from Bill Stirling.
It was nip and tuck all the
way in the third period, and
finally at 12.50 John Wiltsie
scored his second goal of the
game to give the Belmont a
4-3 lead. Thirty seconds later
Stu Mustard scored what looked
like the equalizer only to have
the referees disallow the goal,.
claiming the play was offside.
Perseverance paid off for Must-
ard, and 30 seconds later he
finally rifled hone a pass from
Loader, to tie the score at 4-4.
Even though there were plenty
of close calls throughout the
last six minutes of the game
and the overtime session, neith-
er team could manage to come
up with the bin winning marker.
Both Gary Geoffrey and Bob
Bishop turned aside many shots
which looked like sure goals.
Thirteen penalties were cal-
led in the game, with seven
of then going to Belmont and
six to Zurich.
ZURICH 6 - BELMONT 3
Last Wednesday night, with
their backs to the wall down
three games to two, the Dorn -
inions came from behind an
early 3-0 Belmont lead and
went on to win 6-3. All three
Belmont goals were scored be-
fore the 14 -minute mark of
the first period, by Mike Mort-
ensen, Brian Abbey and Ed
Landon.
Goals by Bill Taylor and Leo
Desjardine later in the first
period gave the locals new life
and they cane out flying in the
second.
It took the Dominions until
the 13.33 mark in the second
period before they could finally
beat Bishop in the Belmont net,
but then Shane McKinnon and
Stu Mustard scored in quick
order to give Zurich a 4-3 lead
by the end of the session.
In the third period it was Zur-
ich all the way, as the boys
completely outskated and out -
checked their opponents. At 6.1'7
John Loader scored from Stirling
and Mustard and at 14.21 Stirling
banged in a pass from Mustard to
score an insurance marker.
Twenty penalties were handed
out in the game, with only eight
of them going to the locals,
while Belmont picked up 12.
