Keller) A special committee to study the problem of salaries and em- ployment benefits was approved Friday by members of Huron County Council in their regular February session. Members of the connnittee for, 1970 will be Warden Roy West- cott, Reeve Jack Alexander, chairman of the executive corn- mittee; Reeve James Hayter, Reeve Gordon Hess, and the county administrator as secretary, This committee will meet to learn directly the salary structure and employee benefits not only for the various county depart- ments, but will seek information from other counties and industry so that a comparison can be made. With the establishment of two more unions within the county system, council approved a uniform method of dealing with union negotiations. It was re- commended and approved that the Warden, the chairman of the executive committee and the chairman and their depart- ment head of the particular com- mittee involved in negotiations plus the county administrator as secretary of the committee, be appointed to handle all union matters. Council also approved the budget for the Children's Aid Society at $246, 527 with the county to be responsible for $78, 553. The Huronview budget was approved at $848, 410 with the county's share being $94, 000. This represents an increase from 1969 of slightly over 20 percent. The salary of the adminis- trator at Huronview was raised from $10, 000 per annum to $10, 700 effective February 27, 1970. Goderich edputy-reeve Walter Sheardown reported that arrange- ments are being worked put through the co- operation of the Township of Blanshard and the Kirkton Community Association whereby the non-resident fee can be eleiminated and at the same time, additional hours will be made available to the residents of the area. A new Branch supervisor is now working in the Blyth lib- rary, it was learned. Council was advised that Lawrence Stotesbury-Leeson has been engaged as a caretaker, effective Monday, February 9. The additional caretaker was necessary since the assessment department is now using the entire Administrative Building. Anson McKinley has been named chairman of the Iluron County Planning Board. Charles Thomas is vice-chairman and John G. Berry is the secretary, Council studied a few pre- liminary suggestions by J. A. Nickloin of the G.V. Kleinfeldt and Associates firm to the last meeting of the county planning board. Chairman Anson McKinley urged all municipalities to "institute a sub -division bylaw as quickly as possible". He said Huron County people must accept their new responsibilities and accomplish some of these unpleasant tasks which they have been avoiding for some time. In the afternoon, Dr. G.P.A. Evans discussed the problem of drug addiction. There were many questions from the floor -including a query as to how man) Huron County people were in trouble with drugs. Dr. Evans said there are a few, but indicated the reported cases do not constitute the only cases of drug abuse in the county. He said in most com- munities the drug situation is much more serious than at first anticipated and he has no reason to assume that Huron County is any different in this respect. Zurich Flyers Lose 4 Players Through Protest; Play Brussels Here Sunday The Zurich Flyers will make a fifth attempt to eliminate the Brussell's BP's from further com- petition in WOAA Intermediate C Mirror C Minor series this Sunday after- noon, when they will play them in the Zurich Arena at 2 p.m. To date the Flyers have badly beaten the Brussells crew four times, but each time the vic- tory ends us as a protest in the committee rooms of the Western Ontario Athletic Association. After eliminating the Brussells team in the first round of the playoffs, a protest was lodged against the eligibility of Earl Wagner, Jim Pfaff, and Barry Bloch, all former residents of Zurich who have left their home community for the salve of employment. According to the rule book these players are still eligible to play for their home community, but according to officials of the WOAA they are not, so naturally the first series was thrown out. Then the Flyers played Brus- sells again without these three players, and another protest was lodged regarding the eligibility of Bill Chipchase. Once again the WOAA officials ruled against Zurich, and ordered another re- play. So the two teams will lock horns on Sunday afternoon, at what promises to be a real grudge battle. In the last game on Brussells the referees had to have police and STEAKS FRIED CHICKEN — FRESH FISH SUNDAY DINNER SERVED FROM 3 to 7:30 P.M.
