in
They scored once both the
first and second periods, and
then came up with two more
big markers in the third session.
Both teams battled on even
terms throughout most of the
first period, until Stu Mustard
finally found the range for the
Dominions at the 17:22 mark,
when he slapped in a perfect
pass from John Loader,
There was only 48 seconds
remaining in the second period
when Dave Leslie beat Gary
Geoffrey, to tie the score at
1-1. Then with only nine
seconds left in the same period,
Ron Henry capitalized on a neat
passing effort from Aubrey Bedard
and Leo Desjardine, to give
Zurich a 2-1 lead.
For the first 17 minutes in the
third period, both teams worked
desperately in an attempt to
break the saw -off, and finally
at the 17;00 minute mark Jim
Reed beat Geoffrey on a close -
in play. Forty-three seconds
later Ron Corriveau, who played
an outstanding game on defence
for the locals, slapped in a pass
from Bill Stirling and Stu
Mustard for the winning goal.
With less than a minute left in
the game, Shane McKinnon
uncorked a sizzling slap shot
from outside the blueline,
which completely fooled the
Belmont goalie.
A total of 16 penalties were
handed out in the game, with
nine of them called against
Zurich and only seven to Bel-
mont. Neither team scored with.
the other team short-handed.

Coming up with their best
showing of the season on Mon-
day night, the Zurich Dominions
blanked the Belmont Sunsets
4-0 in the second game of their
best four -out -of -seven semi-fin-
al series, in the western group-
ing of the O,II.A. Junior D.
Last Saturday night in Belmont,
the locals came through with
a thrilling 4-2 victory in the
first game of the series.
The next game is scheduled
for tonight, Thursday, in Bel-
mont, and then on Saturday
night, February 28, the two
teams will return to the Zurich
Arena for the fourth game. A
fifth game is scheduled for
Belmont on Sunday.
In the other series in this
grouping Exeter and Lucan
are tangling in a best four -
out -of -seven affair, with the
winner to play either Zurich or
Belmont in the final round.
Lucan won the first game of the
series on Sunday, and the two
teams played again last night
in Lucan.
ZURICH 4 - BELMONT 0
Sparked by the terrific offen-
sive effort of John Loader and
Bill Stirling, the Dominions
played their best hockey of the
season on Monday night, in
registering their 4-0 shut -out
over the Sunsets. Gary Geoffrey,
in the Zurich nets, came up
with a brilliant performance in
his second shut -out of the season,
over the same Belmont club.
Early in the schedule he blanked
them 4- 0, in Belmont.
Loader scored one goal and
assisted on two others, while
Stirling scored twice. Ron
Henry banged in the extra mark-
er for the Dominions.
While Loader and Stirling
sparked the attack for the locals,
every player on the team came
up with an outstanding perform-
ance. They skated hard both
ways and back -checked furiously
whenever the need arose. The
defence corps, led by captain
Ron Corriveau, played a stal-
wart role in the victory and hand-
ed out numerous stiff body checks
to the opposing forwards.
In a hectic first period neither
team had any success around the
goal even though the locals held
a decided edge on play. Bob
Bishop, in the Belmont net prov-
ed to be a stumbling block when-
ever the Dominions closed in on
goal.
While Russ Wiltsie was serving
a tripping penalty for Belmont in
the second period, persistence
finally paid off for Bill Stirling
when he grabbed the puck behind
the Sunsets net and carne around
the corner to poke the disc be-
hind a bewildered Bishop, in
goal. This goal really fired up
the Zurich crew, and they skated
all over the visitors for the'next
ten minutes. Finally, at the
15:28 mark John Loader capital-
ized on a pass from Ron Corriv-
eau and slapped the puck by
Bishop again, to give the Domin-
ions a comfortable two -goal
lead.
The locals came on strong
again in the third period, and at
the 7:16 mark Stirling banged in
his second goal of the game, on
a neat pass from Loader. From
there on they settled back and
played a defensive brand of
hockey, guarding their goalie
for his shutout. With less than
two minutes left in the game
and John Wiltsie serving a rough-
ing penalty for Belmont, Loader
and Kevin McKinnon teamed hp
on a passing play from centre ice,
and they fed the puck to defence -
man Ron Henry deep in the Sun-
set's end. Henry made no mis-
take as he beat Bishop easily with
a sizzling drive from the right
side.
There were a total of 23
penalties handed out in the rugg-
ed contest, with 12 of them going
to Zurich and 11 to Belmont. The
big Difference, however, was
that Zurich capitalized on their
power pla attack twice while
Belmont failed to take advantage
of their extra man each time.
A good crowd was on hand for
the game, and a full house is
expected for the fourth game of
the series here on Saturday night.

the 13:50 m ark of the first
period, and another off the
stick of Leo Desjardine, at the
