Dominions Make Playolfs Despite Loss
Even though they lost their
home game on Sunday to the
Belmont Sunsets, the Zurich
Dominions gained fourth
spot in the western division
of the OHA Junoir D grouping
when the same Belmont crew
defeated the Lambeth Flyers
5-3 on Saturday night. The
Sunday score in the local
arena was 6-8.
Lambeth staged a terrific
late season spurge that saw
them threaten tie local
squad for the fourth and last
playoff position. They were
undefeated in their last ten
games, until they ran into
Belmont in Saturday night
and suffered their first loss in so-
me time. Had they won that
game, and the last of the
season against Mitchell last
night, they could have ended up
one point ahead of Zurich, if
Zurich failed to beat Exeter
in their last game of the
schedule on Friday night.
This game will be played
in Exeter, and the Dominions
will be playing under Bob
Johnston, who is going to fill
in for coach Doug O'Brien
during his absence. Both
the new coach and the players
are sure they can end their
slump on Friday night, and
regain their early -season form
that saw them play nine games
without a loss.
In the semi-final series of
the playoffs the Dominions will
face the Belmont crew, and
in early season play they downed
the same team 4-0 and 6-2
before hitting their slump.
They also tied one game with the
same team,
Gary Gavey shot the visitors
into a 1-0 lead at the 4:25
.mark of the first period on

Zurich led in the scoring for
most of the game as Derek
O'Brien with his first goal, Wayne
Clark and BarryHess were first
period scorers or the Zurich
team. Before the period ended,
Ripley made the score read
3-1, in favour of Zurich.
In the second period Zurich
was unable to come up with
a goal and Ripley narrowed
the lead to 3-2.
The last stanza saw Ripley
take a 4-3 lead , but before the
period ended Derek O'Brien
had tied things up at 4-4, to
force t11 game into an over-
time period.
Mid -way through the ten-
minute overtime period
Derek O'Brien again gave
Zurich the lead with his
third goal, and with only
ten seconds remaining in the
overtime period, Ripley again
scored to end the game in a
5-5 tie.
Sunday afternoon, and at

to make it 2-0 for Belmont.
At the 11:49 mark in the same
period, John McKinley slipped.
the puck by Bob Bishop to
bring the local squad right
back into the game. The
Dominions held a slight edge
in play during the first
session, but failed to conte
up with any more goals.
Once again it was the
second period that proved
to be the downfall of the
local team, as they allowed
Belmont to score two un-
answered goals for a 4-1
lead, Brian Abbey and Bob
Leslie were the marksmen.
In the third period the
Dominions roared back
strong and played their best
hockey in several weeks.
At the 5:28 mark Aubrey
Bedard banged in a pass from
John Loader, and four minutes
later Ron Corriveau let a drive
go from the point and easily
peat Bishop in the Belmont
net, Once again Loader earned
the assist on the goal. With
the locals pressing hard and
goalie Rick Jeffrey pulled
in favour of an extra attacker,
Murray Shain managed
to get a shot away on the open
net and it found it's way into
the right spot to give the visitors
their 6-3 margin.
A total of 17 penalties were cal-
led in the game, with only
seven of them going to the
Zurich crew.

two periods with a broken hand,

below the wrist by a Belmont

No announcement has been
made as yet regarding play-
off dates, but the details
will probably be worked out
in the next few days. In
the meantine, the Dominions
are scheduling as many
practice sessions as possible

early season form. Both coach
Bob Johnston and the players
are confident they can come

Zurich Flyers Beat
Play Brussels Here
The Zurich Flyers maintained
their undefeared record against
the Dashwood Bears in WOAA
Intermediate hockey last
Friday night, when they
staged a terrific come -from -
behind effort to squeeze
through with a thrilling 9-7
victory. In less than eight
minutes they rapped five goals
past Tom Glavin, in the
Dashwood net,
Dashwood held a convincing
7-4 lead with only nine
minutes left in the game, but
suddenly the roof fell in for
them and the Flyers unleashed
their scoring assault. Bob
Johnston sparked the Zurich
attack with four big goals
while Bill Chipchase and Bob
Carlile both scored two. The
other goal was scored by
Dick Bedard.
For Dashwood Glenn Over-
holt was top scorer with three
goals, while Bob Morrissey,
Bob Hoffman, Pat MclKeever and
John Becker all scored once.
The Bears jumped into an
early 3-0 lead in the first
period, while they held the
high -scoring Zurich crew off
the sheet, In the second
session the Flyers came on
strong and scored three times
while the Bears managed
only one.
Dashwood came back fly-
ing in the third period, and
by the seven -minute mark
they had increased their lead
to 6-3. At '8.22 Bill Chipchase
scored his second goal of
the game, to bring Zurich
closer, but 20 seconds later
Overholt scored his third
goal for the Bears to give
them a 7-4 lead. At this -
point the roof fell in for Dash-
wood, as Bob Merner and
Jim Hoffman were both sent
to the penalty bench for a
total of seven minutes for
fighting and high -sticking.
Then the Flyers took over,
with Dick Bedard scoring
first and then Bob Johnston
banging in two quick ones
within a minute and a half,
to tie the score at 7-7. At
18.17 Bob Carlile picked up
a pass from Barry Bloch
and banged the puck past
a bewildered Glavin in the
Dashwood net, to give Zurich
an 8-7 lead. To add insult
to injury, the same play was
repeated 25 seconds later
when Bloch and Carlile teamed
up on the same play, to give
the Flyers their 9-7 victory and
maintain their mastery over
their arch -rivals.
Even though many fans
expected to see a rough and
