Dominions Still Need One Point
The Zurich Dominions have
a big job on their hands in the
next two weeks if they hope to
finish the schedule in fourth
and last playoff position. They
blew their big chance to assure
themselves of fourth place last
Sunday afternoon, when they
came out on the short end of a
5-3 score with the Lucan Irish.
In the two remaining games
of the schedule, the Dominions
play host to second -place Bel-
mont Sunsets this Sunday after-
noon, and then wind up on
Friday night, February 20, when
they travel to Exeter to do bat-
tle with the first -place hawks.
One point in the two games,
regardless of how the Lambeth
Flyers make out in their remain-
ing four games, would assure
the Zurich crew of a berth in
the playoffs.
Another way for Zurich to
make the playoffs would be a tie
or loss for Lambeth in one of
their four games left in the
schedule. This week the red-hot
Lambeth crew play a hone and
home set with the Belmont six,
and then next week they wind
up with a home and home set
with bottom place Mitchell
Hawks. At present Zurich is
eight points,ahead of Lambeth
in the standing, and a four -
game winning streak and a two -
game losing streak for the Dom-
inions would leave the two teams
tied in the league standing. Lain -
beth, however, would then end
up in fourth place due to more
wins than Zurich.
For tie first period in Sunday
afterndLn's game, it appeared
the Dominions had finally
shaken the jinx that has seen
them drop from second to fourth
place in the league standings.
The local crew had a decidedg
edge in play during the first
period, but failed to beat John
McLean in the Lucan net. Even
Stu Mustard, who is the team's
top scorer and usually a sure bet
around the net, had trouble when
he was awarded a penalty shot
in that first session. Ile skated
in on McLean, deked him to
the right, and then had the puck
dribble away from him when he
was ready to slide it into the
empty net. Neither teaiu man-
aged to score in the first.
Zurich jumped into an early
lead in the second period when
Aubrey Bedard rifled home a
pass from 13111 Stirling, at the
1,45 mark. Then the roof fell
Zurich Midgets Eliminate Adastral
Park From WOAA Final in Two Games
Last Wednesday night the
Zurich Midgets defeated Adast-
ral Park 6-4 in the first game
in a best out -of -three playoff
series.
Zurich got off to an early
start in the first period as Kyle
Harrison banged in the first goal
at the .25 nark . The lead was
short-lived as Adastral Park's
Steve McNally tied things up
minutes later. Before the period
ended Gerard O'Rourke with
his first of the game and John
Corriveau had capitalized to
give Zurich a 3-1 lead.
The second period saw Adast-
ral Park come back with two
quick goals to put them back in
the game. Midway through the
period Gerald Weido shot Zur-
ich into a 4-3 lead, and min-
utes later Gerard O'Rourke scor-
ed his second goal. Adastral
Park's last goal came at 14.50
of the second period, scored by
Barry Barkton. At the 12.05
mark of the last period, Larry
Hess beat the goalie on a slap -
shot from the point to end the
scoring.
ZURICH 5-ADASTRAL P. 4
Last Friday night the victorious
Zurich Midgets battled to an-
other victory as they edged
Adastral Park in the second and
last game of the semi-finals
5-4.
Again Zurich came up with
tosee Adast-
raltlie firstgoal only
Park onte bak and take the
lead in the game.
Zurich took a 2-1 lead by the
end of the first, but Adastral,
Park fought back and took a
short-lived 3-2 lead at the end
of the second. Only seconds
into the third period Zurich
rifled in two quick goals, but
Adastral Park again tied things
up at 4-4. With about seven
minutes remaining, Zurich
fired in the winning goal and
were able to hold Adastral Park
off the score sheet for the re-
mainder of the game.
Zurich goals were scored
by John Corriveau with a hat -
trick and. Gerard O'Rourke scor-
ed twice. Assists were handed to
Randy Decker, Larry Hess and
Kyle Harrison.
Zurich will now meet Ripley
in the W. 0. A.A. champion-
ship, and ask the support of all
local fans for the up -rising
Midgets.

in for the locals, as Lucan
cause up with three goals in
nine minutes. Doug Rosser,
Dave Revington and Tom Ander-
son scored in that order to give
the visitors a 3-1 lead, but with
less than two minutes left in the
seconderiod, Stirling rapped
a pass from John Loader and
I3edard past McLean, in the
Lucan net.
Lucan came out flying in •
the third session, and scored
two unassisted goals before the
halfway mark, Jeff Craig and
Toin Hodgins were the marks-
men. Zurich came back strong
in the last half of the period,
and at the 14 -minute mark Leo
Desjardine, playing his first
game of the season for the locals
slapped the puck by the Lucan
goalie. Even though they tried
desperately in the last six min-
utes, the Dominions could not
come up with any more scoring
punch.
Unlike some of the earlier
Zurich-Lucan games, this con-
test was cleanly played with the
locals picking up only five. min-
ors and Lucan six penalties.
Zurich played with three of
their regulars. Bob Cook, who
suffered a shoulder injury in
Lambeth, was still out of action.
Rick Schilbe suffered another
broken collarbone last Friday
night in a juvenile gauze at
Brussels and will be out for the
balance of the season, and Ron
Corriveau is vacationing in
New Orleans. Cook and Corriv-
eau are expected to be back in
action for the Sunday afternoon
game, and Desjardine will again
be in the lineup. He played for
Zurich last season, but has been
away at University until several weeks ago,. and show
ld be a
great help to the club in their
remaining games.

Zurich Flyers Trounce Brussels 15-5;
Play Dashwood Here Friday Night
The Zurich Flyers on Tuesday
night trounced the Brussels BP's
15-5 in the first game of their
C Minor playoffs in the WOAA
Intermediate grouping. Second
ganie in the best of five series
will be played in Brussels on
Sunday night, with the third
game scheduled back in Zurich
on the following Friday night,
February 20.
Meanwhile, the Flyers play
host to the Dashwood Bears in
the final game of the regular
schedule on Friday night, Feb-
ruary 13. The Bears, a D entry
in the WOAA, will be playing
off with the Ripley in the finals.
Game time for the clash between
the two arch -rivals on Friday
night is 8 p.
Zurich dumped into a 6-2 lead
in the first period, increased it
to 9-4 by the end of the second,
and then came up with six more
big goals in the third session,
while holding the Brussels crew
to one marker.
Earl Wagner was the big gun
in the Zurich scoring attack, as
he banged in five goals. Bob
Merner aided the cause with
three, while both Bill Chipchase
and Ken Sinale scored twice.
Single goals were accounted for
by Bob Johnston, Bob Carlile,
and Dick Bedard.
Only ten penalties were cal-
led in the game, with six of
them going to Zurich and four
to Brussels.
ED NOTE: The Flyers are
playing a good brand of hockey
this season, and to date the
crowds have been most disap-
pointing, to say the least, On
Tuesday night the crowd was
not big enough to even pay for
the ice time, let alone the
referees fees, sticks, etc.
Surely there are more good
hockey fans than this in the area,
who enjoy seeing a good brand
of intermediate play. The Fly-
ers would be most happy to see
the arena filled to capacity on
Friday night for their tussle with
the Dashwood crew. Show the
boys you are behind then and
come out to the arena. -Friday
night.
