They blew their big chance to assure themselves of fourth place last Sunday afternoon, when they came out on the short end of a 5-3 score with the Lucan Irish. In the two remaining games of the schedule, the Dominions play host to second -place Bel- mont Sunsets this Sunday after- noon, and then wind up on Friday night, February 20, when they travel to Exeter to do bat- tle with the first -place hawks. One point in the two games, regardless of how the Lambeth Flyers make out in their remain- ing four games, would assure the Zurich crew of a berth in the playoffs. Another way for Zurich to make the playoffs would be a tie or loss for Lambeth in one of their four games left in the schedule. This week the red-hot Lambeth crew play a hone and home set with the Belmont six, and then next week they wind up with a home and home set with bottom place Mitchell Hawks. At present Zurich is eight points, ahead of Lambeth in the standing, and a four - game winning streak and a two - game losing streak for the Dom- inions would leave the two teams tied in the league standing. Lain - beth, however, would then end up in fourth place due to more wins than Zurich. For tie first period in Sunday afterndLn's game, it appeared the Dominions had finally shaken the jinx that has seen them drop from second to fourth place in the league standings. The local crew had a decidedg edge in play during the first period, but failed to beat John McLean in the Lucan net. Even Stu Mustard, who is the team's top scorer and usually a sure bet around the net, had trouble when he was awarded a penalty shot in that first session. Ile skated in on McLean, deked him to the right, and then had the puck dribble away from him when he was ready to slide it into the empty net. Neither teaiu man- aged to score in the first. Zurich jumped into an early lead in the second period when Aubrey Bedard rifled home a pass from 13111 Stirling, at the 1,45 mark. Then the roof fell Zurich Midgets Eliminate Adastral Park From WOAA Final in Two Games Last Wednesday night the Zurich Midgets defeated Adast- ral Park 6-4 in the first game in a best out -of -three playoff series. The second period saw Adast- ral Park come back with two quick goals to put them back in the game. ZURICH 5-ADASTRAL P. 4 Last Friday night the victorious Zurich Midgets battled to an- other victory as they edged Adastral Park in the second and last game of the semi-finals 5-4. Westlake Fumiture MAIN STREET ZURICH 1 in for the locals, as Lucan cause up with three goals in nine minutes. Doug Rosser, Dave Revington and Tom Ander- son scored in that order to give the visitors a 3-1 lead, but with less than two minutes left in the seconderiod, Stirling rapped a pass from John Loader and I3edard past McLean, in the Lucan net. Lucan came out flying in • the third session, and scored two unassisted goals before the halfway mark, Jeff Craig and Toin Hodgins were the marks- men. Zurich came back strong in the last half of the period, and at the 14 -minute mark Leo Desjardine, playing his first game of the season for the locals slapped the puck by the Lucan goalie. Even though they tried desperately in the last six min- utes, the Dominions could not come up with any more scoring punch. Unlike some of the earlier Zurich-Lucan games, this con- test was cleanly played with the locals picking up only five. min- ors and Lucan six penalties. Zurich played with three of their regulars. Bob Cook, who suffered a shoulder injury in Lambeth, was still out of action. Rick Schilbe suffered another broken collarbone last Friday night in a juvenile gauze at Brussels and will be out for the balance of the season, and Ron Corriveau is vacationing in New Orleans. ED NOTE: The Flyers are playing a good brand of hockey this season, and to date the crowds have been most disap- pointing, to say the least, On Tuesday night the crowd was not big enough to even pay for the ice time, let alone the referees fees, sticks, etc. Surely there are more good hockey fans than this in the area, who enjoy seeing a good brand of intermediate play. The Fly- ers would be most happy to see the arena filled to capacity on Friday night for their tussle with the Dashwood crew. Show the boys you are behind then and come out to the arena. -Friday night. 0 Z,M,A,A, AUXILIARY The monthly meeting of the Ladies' Auxiliary to the Zurich Minor Athletic Association was held on Wednesday, February 4, in the Zurich Community Centre.
