HENRY ROPPEL Rev. Henry E. Roppel, min- ister of Emmanual Church, Zur- ich, during the years 1947 to 1956, (part of the time it was the Evangelical United Brethren Church), dies in ,b1 amilton on Tuesday, February 3, in his 85th year. Mr. Roppel retired to Tavis- tock after over 40 years of active ministry, but after the death of his wife had been living at the home of his daughter, Hope, (Mrs. T. Ralph Waugh), in Hamilton. The funeral service was con- ducted in Grace United Church, Tavistock, on Thursday, Febru- ary 5, by the Rev. James Ward- en. Dr. E,E. Hallman of Kit- chener read the eulogy and the funeral sermon was preached by the Rev:" -George Sim of St. Jacobs. A musical number was sung by a quartet from the local church. Rev. John Iluether from the Zurich church attended, along with other ministers from the former Canada Conference. 0 In 1969, for the first time in Ontario Hydro's history, de- mand for electricity exceeded 10 million kilowatts. This was more than double power demand. in 1958. QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS QUESTION: I have just pur- chased a new pick-up. Do I need to put niy name on both sides of the truck? ANSWER: Yes, you must. Every commercial motor vehicle shall have attached to or painted on both sides of the vehicle in a clearly visible position, a sign showing the name of the owner. QUESTION: I was stopped the other day, and the police offic- er measured the width of my load which was 108". He charg- ed me with having a greater width than 102".I was told the maximum widtwas 110", which is correct? ANSWER: It would just depend what you were driving and what you were hauling. To quote the Highway Traffic Act, No veh- ilcle, including load on contents, shall have a greater width than 102", except traction engines, or threshing machines which may have a total width of 110", and except loads of loose fodder, and except motor vehicles and road building machines while being used for the removal of snow from a highway. QUESTION: What should a person do when he is involved in an accident? ANSWER: To answer that question I will quote from the Department of Transport Driver's Handbook, 1969-70, "What to do in case of a collision, " which reads in part as follows, "Every driver who is directly or indirectly involved in a collision must stop. If damage is not extensive, move the vehicles as soon as possible to allow traffic to pass. It is an offence to leave the scene of an accident in which you are directly or indirectly involved without rendering assistance, and upon request, giving in writing to anyone sustaining loss or injury, or to any police officer, or witness, your name and address and the name and address of the regist- ered owner of the vehicle. If you are directly or indirect- ly involved in an accident re- sulting in personal injury, or property damage exceeding $200., report the accident to the nearest municipal or prov- incial police officer. If you are not capable of making such a report, another occupant of your car must do so." QUESTION: I know it is an offence to pull to the side of the road and sit there with the directional light working. There must be quite a few drivers who don't know it, because I see it almost everyday. Why don't you tell the people again? ANSWER: Thank you for the suggestion, I will do just .that. I won't get too technical about it, just quote from the Depart- ment of Transport's Driver hand- book which states, "Turn signals must not be used for any purpose other than when turning, chang- ing lanes, or pulling away from a parked position.' QUESTION: What vehicles can use the flashing blue lights? ANSWER: To quote from the Highway Traffic Act, "No per- son shall operate on a highway, a motor vehicle or raod building machine while being used for the removal of snow from a highway unless the motor veh- icle or road building machine is equipped with a lamp prod- ucing intermittent flashes of blue light visible for a distance of 500 feet, and no person shall use a lamp that automatically produces intermittent flashes of light an a motor vehicle or road building machine other than a motor vehicle or road building machine while being used for the removal of snow from a highway." QUESTION: What does the sign "advanced green when flashing" mean? ANSWER: It means that traffic facing the flashing green light is allowed advanced movement over the opposing traffic as long as the light is flashing. This type of light usually assists the motorist making a left turn. QUESTION: I am a member of the Armed Forces and I have just moved to Ontario with my family. I have the 1970 plates on my car from the pro- vince I just moved from. I under- stand that I must change my licence plates, but what will it cost me. I drive an eight cy- linder vehicle. ANSWER: The Ontario licence plate should cost you $2. 00. The regulations 227 states, "For a motor vehicle owned by a member of the Canadian Armed Forces who has nioved into Ont- ario and who holds a valid per- mit for the vehicle issued by another province or county, for the balance of the registration year is $2.00. 0 Ontario Hydro's assets, which reached more than $4 billion in 1969, are expected to double during the 1970s.
