Now is the time to order your forage seed needs for spring to ensure getting the varieties you want. Very important additions to the seed list are Saranac and Iroquois. Alfalfa. Seed of these new, superior varieties will be in fair supply this spring, Saranac could well become our most popular alfalfa variety over the next few years. It con- bines the fast, vigorous growth of the Flemish types of alfalfa such as Du Puits and the Bact- erial Wilt resistance of Vernal. As a result Saranac is a high yielding, persistent variety which should remain productive for a number of years under ideal conditions. It is not rated quite as high as Vernal in either hardiness or persistence, but is superior to Du Puits in both re- gards. Saranac is easily and quickly established, making it ideal for seeding without a nurse crop and for first year har- vesting. Iroquois is a hardy variety also with Wilt Resistance and is able to withstand womewhat poorer drainage conditions than Vernal. l Proper Variety It is usually slightly higher yield- ing that Vernal. We recommend that art of the alfalfa acreage on the farm e Vernal or Iroqu- ois and the remainder Saranac, which like other Flemish varlet - res, is earlier and produces more aftermath than Vernal, or other standard type varieties. Baylor is a new recommended variety of Bromegrass, with sun- ilar and sometimes higher yield- ing ability that Saratoga or Red- patch. It is very drought resist- and and _producing excellent quality frage. It is ideal in a mixture with Saratoga or Iroqu- ors Alfalfa, For profitable, efficient pro- duction, all forages need to be well fed. Be sure you don't hamper your best efforts by under. feeding. One other thing, over - fertilization is expensive. A soil test is the best indicator of how much to apply, but if you didn't get a sample taken, here are some thumb rules. With no manure, use 300 pounds of 5-20-20 at seeding time on sandy land and 300 pounds of 5-20-10 on heavier soil. If you seed with a companion crop .and lodging may be a problem, you can leave out the nitrogen. If the field is manured, use 200 pounds of 0-20-20 or 0-20-10. yo u, oroOrderong S LS , R EXPECT TO®MVOO/ OFA HUSBAND JUST o A MAN TO "$'PEND" General a contracting BUILDING and RREMODELLING BUILD YOUR ® BARN • GARAGE your complete project, including • ELECTRICAL, WORK THE/R LIFE ,, ,‘ , 9 P gif_, y 1 / p \FOLD WE WILL HOME 6 COTTAGE One contract will take care of PLUMBING ® HEATING Backhoe Service Now Available Doors an oD Aluminum d Windows ®i SIZE DOORS STANDARD STOCK I Y $ Completely Installed Richard DIAL 236-4679 ZURICH ever bo y's savin on our great food buys Assorted -12 Oz.
