LADIES AUXILIARY President Mrs. Vic Stan pre- sided for the February meeting of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and installed Mrs. Mary Fitz- patrick as a new member, and also presented past president Mrs. Garnet Allan with her past president's badge and pin, The president announced a public speaking contest from grades 5 and 6, 7 and 8, from Hensall and Zurich Public Schools, will take place at the Hensall Legion Hall, Monday, February 16, at 8 p.m. The auxiliary will hold a Legion dance, February 12, at the local arena auditorium. Anyone wishing tickets can con- tact any member of the auxiliary The group will also sponsor an Easter Basket Draw, with proceeds for crippled children. They will canvass for the Red Cross in March and cater to a Bonspeil, February 28. Mrs. Mary Taylor and Mrs, Scrabuik read devotions' from the Living Message, Plans were made for the World Day of Prayer, March 6, Pack- ing of a bale in conjunction wird. Huron -Perth Presbyterial. of UCW Holds Annual Meeting in Clinton The Huron -Perth Presbyterial of the United Church Women held its third annual meeting last Thursday at Wesley -Willis United Church. Close to 275 members, rep- resenting 84 churches in the presbyterial were also in att- endance. • Rev. Susan Seymour of Bramp- ton who was scheduled to be guest speaker was unable to attend because of illness. A panel discussion on the theme " The Demands of Total Love" was heard in place of her talk. Miss Elizabeth Facey, deacon- ess at Central United Church, Stratford introduced the discus- sion with Mrs. Colin Leitch and Mrs. H . K , Plant and Mrs. Har- old Babensee, all of Stratford taking part. Mrs. H.R. Goodfellow of Sault Saint Marie, president of the London Conference, UCW was in attendance for the elect- ion of officers. Mrs. Stewart Minor, R.R.S, Exeter, was elected president. Vice-presidents are Mrs. Stu- art Slifer, R.12.1, St. Marys, and Mrs. Lloyd Bond, R.R.3, Clinton Mrs. Orville Sawyer of Mitch- ell is recording secretary and Mrs. G.W. Mrs. Harold Babensee, of Stratford, who assumed the pos- ition of president of the presby- terial in 1968 when the two counties amalgamated, was presented with a silver pin in recognition of her service by Mrs. Roy Galway of Listowel. Mrs. Goodfellow told the meeting that of the $11, 000, 000 raised last year by the United Church of Canada for the mission and service fund that $2, 000, 000 was contributed by the UCW. The Huron -Perth group's finan- cial statement indicated that its members had donated in excess of $60, 500. In the opening session Thursday morning, Mrs. Babensee payed tribute to the late Miss Kather- ine McGregor, an active UCW member in Clinton, who was murdered in her home recently. "As a presbyterial, we wish to express our sympathy to her family and to her church. Her graciousness will ever be among you and be an inspiration, " said Mrs. Babensee. All heads bowed in silent prayer during the afternoon ses- sion when Mrs. Keith Webster of Blyth addressing the large gathering briefly referred to the 15 -year-old juvenile charged in the murder. CONSITT President MILSINIMIAMBPAMINTI Secretary -Treasurer Obituaries SIMON M, HOFFMAN A resident of Hay Township and Zurich for many years, Simon Michael Hoffman passed away at St, Joseph's Hospital, London, on Wednesday, Febru- ary 4, in his 85th year. He had been in residence at St. Mary's Hospital, London, for the past few years. Prior to that Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman farmed on the Goshen Line South and had re- tired to Zurich some years ago. Surviving besides his wife, the former Caroline Regier, are six sons, Joseph, R,R,3, Zurich, Anthony, R, R.3, Zurich, Albert, of Zurich, Brother Simon, of Keswick, Leo, of R.R.3, Zurich and Wilfred, of London; four daughters, (Rose) Mrs. Joseph Tra-ler, London, Sister Angela of Chatham, (Mary) Mrs. Regis Ducharme, of London, and (Doreen) Mrs. Bob Ducharme, of Sarnia. There are also two sisters, Mrs. Adeline Michal- hargey, of Chatham, and Mrs. Christina Witzel, of Saskatch- ewan; 25 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. The body rested at the West- lake funeral home, Zurich until Saturday morning, February 7, when funeral mass was conduct- ed in St, Boniface Roman Cath- olic Church, Zurich, by Father A. Durand. Burial was in the church cemetery. Prayers were said at the funeral home on Friday night. ALLEN H, MILLER A prominent resident of Hay Township for many years, Allen H. Miller passed away at his residence on the Bluewater High- way, south, on Sunday, February 8, in his 62nd year. He had not been well for some time. Surviving besides his wife, the former Olive Turnbull, are one daughter, Linda, of Strat- ford; two sons, Wayne and Glen, both at home; and one brother Urban, of Hay Township. The body rested at the Hoff- man funeral home, Dashwood, where the service took place on Wednesday, February 11, at two o'clock. Interment was in the Grand Bend cemetery. Rev. H. Dobson officiated.
