Zurich Flyers Trim Ripley 9-4; Meet
Brussels Here Tuesday Night in Playoffs
The Zurich Flyers gave the
Ripley Comets a lesson in the
art of playing hockey on Tues-
day night, when they thumped
the northern crew 9-4 in a reg-
ularly scheduled WOAA Inter-
mediate contest, played in the
local arena.
At the end of the first period
the score was all tied up at two
each, but by the end of the sec-
ond session the Flyers had taken
a 6-3 lead, and then in the
third period they outscored the
visitors 3-1.
Two Bobs, Bob Johnston and
Bob Carlile, were the big guns
in the Zurich scoring attach,
with three goals each, Bob
Merner chipped in with two,
while Ken Smale accounted for
the extra marker.
The first period was only four
minutes old when Johnston bang-
ed in his first goal, and a little
over a minute later Merner reg-
istered for the locals to give
them an early 2-0 lead. In the
last three minutes of the period,
however the Ripley crew came
back strong and tied the score
at 2-2.
Early in the second, Ripley
jumped into a 3-2 lead, but
this was short-lived as Carlile
came through with his first

One of those rare exceptions

play the first game in the local
