At the end of the first period the score was all tied up at two each, but by the end of the sec- ond session the Flyers had taken a 6-3 lead, and then in the third period they outscored the visitors 3-1. Two Bobs, Bob Johnston and Bob Carlile, were the big guns in the Zurich scoring attach, with three goals each, Bob Merner chipped in with two, while Ken Smale accounted for the extra marker. The first period was only four minutes old when Johnston bang- ed in his first goal, and a little over a minute later Merner reg- istered for the locals to give them an early 2-0 lead. In the last three minutes of the period, however the Ripley crew came back strong and tied the score at 2-2. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Cohoe of Lake Orion, Mich.; Mr. A. McLaughlin, Port Credit, and Mr. S. Atkinson, St. Clair Shores, Mich., were weekend guests at the Albion Hotel. Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Cook of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Gregory and family, Dr. and Mrs. W. Tillmann and family and Mr. Norman Brown, all of London, spent the weekend at their Bayfield homes. Mr. and Mrs. W , C . Parker, Charlie and Kim, Dorchester, spent Saturday and Sunday with Mrs. Parker's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Fraser, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hulls spent Saturday with their daughter, Mrs. Joanne Rowan, at St. Thomas, and visited their son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ken Hulls, Michael and Byron in Dutton on Sunday. • Mr. and Mrs. George McBain of Algonac, Miss Mary Smith of Detroit, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Weston for the weekend, joining them on Sun- day, were Mr. and Mrs. Rick Rice of Ferndale and Mr. and Mrs. F. Rozelle and family of Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich. LIONS CLUB Bayfield Lions Club met Tues- day, January 27 with president Harold Weston in the chair. Lions authorized donations of $50. to Bayfield minor hockey clubs and $50. to a former Bayfield resident. Reports on the hockey teams and recent successes were given by Lion Adam Flowers and Lion Pat Graham, Mr. Graham said that a canvass on behalf of CNIB must be completed by February 10. Lion Ross Merrill showed slides taken in Florida, also in Bay- field and environs. ,goal of the game. Three goals in the next 10 minutes, by Johnston, Merner and Carlile again, gave the Zurich crew a commanding 6-3 lead at the end of the seconderiod. The third period was only two minutes old when Johnston came through with his third goal, be- fore Ripley found the range again Goals by Carlile at the 10.17 mark and Swale at the 11.05 mark salted away the victory for the Flyers. One of those rare exceptions took place in the game, when not one single penalty was called against either team. The Flyers will now begin their playoff series in the WOAA In- termediate C Minor series, and play the first game in the local arena next Tuesday night. Gauze time will be 8 p.m., and the local crew hope to see a good turnout of fans out to cheer them on to victory. 0 Dr. and 1vlrs. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Johnston have returned home from an enjoyable months vacation in Florida, Zurich Dominions Tie Mitchell 4-4; Need One More 'Point to Make Playoffs The Zurich Dominions, play- ing in Mitchell on a cold and stormy Tuesday night this week, fought to a 4-4 tie with the Hawks. The locals were miss- ing at least four of their regu- lars for the game. After Bill Walkom had given the Mitchell squad a 1-0 lead early in the first period, Ron Henry scored for Zurich at 5.35, unassisted. About four minutes'. later Ron Desjardine, up from the Juvenile squad, slapped in a pass from Bob Langille to shoot the locals into a 2-1 lead. Early in the second period Bruce Schoenhals scored on a pass from Langille, to give Zurich a 3-1 lead, but before the period ended Walkom scored his second goal of the game and Randy Duffy also found the range for Mitchell, to tie the score at 3-3. Neither team could manage to score for the balance of rhe game. Of the 14 penalties called in the game, nine went to Mitchell, including a major and a mis- conduct. Zurich picked up only five minors. 0 Zurich Peewees Down Grand Bend In Exhibition Tilt (by Doug Turkheim) In an exhibition hockey game played against Grand Bend on Monday night, Zurich won a game back as they downed them 3-1. Zurich goals were singles scored by Greg Love, Derek O'Brien and Wayne Clarke. The Grand Bend goal was scored by Philip Panet. In the first period Greg Love was the only scorer. Neither team scored in the second per- iod as both played good and missed many chances. Zurich got off to a fast start scoring 17 seconds into the last stanza, off the stick of Derek O'Brien.
