FEBRUARY, 1920
The Seaforth School is being
closed down on account of the
Spanish influenza.
The Hall Dent factory is shut
down for one week.
On Tuesday evening a well -
attended meeting was held in
the Maple Leaf club rooms, and
the Zurich Athletic Association
was born. The following were
elected as officers: president,
J. Preeter, vice-president, T.L.
Wurm; secretary treasurer, A.F.
Hess; board of directors, C.
Fritz, Dr. A. J, Mackinnon,
L W. Hoffman, A. Melick,
E, Oesch, W.F. Braun, E.
Weide, W.G. Hess and Clarence
lloffman. H. Howald and F.C.
Kalbfleisch were appointed as
trustees of the real estate.
Last Saturday was probably
the coldest we have had in
some time, when the mercury
dropped to 16 degrees below
zero.
Menno Steckle, of the Bron-
son Line, in Stanley Township,
recently purchased a fat pig
from his neighbour, W. J. Tough,
that tipped the scales at 844 `
pounds.
40 Years Ago
FEBRUARY, 1930
Miss Margaret McKinley had
quite an unpleasant accident
last week, when she was kicked
in the face by a colt. We are
pleased to say that she is prog-
ressing favourably.
A goodly number from the
village attended the funeral of
the late John A. Manson, in
Stanley Township, on Monday.
Mr.' Louis Prang and son Len,
were recent visitors in Detroit,
making the trip by motor car.
Our local boys attended a
fast game of hockey at Seaforth,
on Tuesday evening, when the
Seaforth and Goderich teams
played to a 1-1 tie with a half-
hour overtime. Sorry that one
of our local players, Ed Gascho
was missing on the Seaforth line-
up, or probably the score would
have looked different.
Fred Bonthron has purchased
from his brother, Jas. W. Bon-
thron, the brick cottage opposite
the post office and intends mak-
ing a number of substantial
changes to it.

FEBRUARY, 1945
Miss Leona Fischer, Dashwood
is visiting' with her sister, Ivlrs.
Charles Thiel, in Zurich, this
week.
Miss Florence Haberer, who
is attending Westervelt School
in London, and who has been at
the home of her parents for a
few weeks, has returned to the
city and resumed her studies.
At last the long -hoped for
wish has become a reality, and
the Kalbfleisch mills are back
in the new building with a good
supply of machines capable of
doing mostly all kinds of work.
It is almost aear since the
old mill was destroyed by fire.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ducharme
of the Blue Water Highway,
have received a telegram from
their son, Cpl. H, C. Duch-
arme, that he has arrived safely
at his destination.
Miss Ada Hay of Zurich, dau-
ghter of Mr. and Mrs. William
Ilay, has entered St. Joseph's
Hospital, London, where she
intends training for a nurse. Her
many friends wish her every
success.

The niany friends of Mr.
Leroy O'Brien are pleased to
learn that he has returned from
YEARS GONE

St. Joseph's Hospital, London,
and is progressing very favour-
ably,
The prospective drillers who
have recently sunk wells on the
farms of E. Heideman and E, J.
McKinley of the Goshen line
north have moved their equip-
ment to the west of town on the
farm of Mr. Delbert Geiger,
where they will make similar
tests. The two last wells did
not prove of any value,
A large number of people
were in town Friday attending
the funeral of the late Charles
Fritz.
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Cantin,
of St. Joseph, are at present
visiting their daughter Marie,
in Montreal. They have been
there since January 10, and
plan to remain for sometime.

FEBRUARY, 1960
V.L. Becker, reeve ofllay
Township, was re-elected as
president of the Zurich Agricult-
ural Society, following the
annual meeting in the Township
Hall last Wednesday night.
Mr. and Mrs. Mathew Duch-
arme have taken up residence
in the apartment adjacent to
Tasty -Nu Bakery, where Mr.
Ducharme is employed.
Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Bris-
son and family, St. Thomas,
were weekend visitors with rel-
atives in Zurich.
John Gallman has returned to
his home in Zurich, after under-
going eye surgery at St, Mich-
ael's Hospital, Toronto.
We are sorry to report that
Mrs. Henry Rau, has been a pat-
ient in Goderich hospital, since
last Tuesday, and Bert Dunn, Jr.
a patient in Clinton Hospital
since last Wednesday.

U.C. Men Hear
Dashwood Cleric
The January meeting of the
Emmanuel United church Men
was held on Wednesday evening,
with the president, Robert Hor-
ner, conducting the meeting.
Earl Horner read the scripture
lesson and Rev. John Huether
offered the prayer.
The guest speaker was Rev.
Bruce Guy of Dashwood, who
spoke on communicating the
Gospel, outlining the advant-
ages of using dialogue in the
process.
In the business meeting, Earl
Horner was elected secretary
and Oscar Greb elected as a
representative to the Men's Club
council of Presbytery. Arrange-
ments were made for a number
to attend the annual brother-
hood dinner at Exeter United
Church, on February 9, at which
the moderator, Dr. Robert Mc-
Clure will speak,

Squirts Lose To
London All -Stars

During the past week the
Zurich Squirts played an exhib-
iton hockey game against the
London all-star team, and were
defeated 7-3.
The London scoring attack
was led by Brian Wallas who
collected a hat -trick. Paul
Cooke was next, scoring two
goals. Singles were added by
Mike McNamara and Duncan
Grand.
Zurich goals were singles scor-
ed by Jeff O'Brien, Danny La-
porte and Fred Mornmersteeg,
who was brought clown from the
PeeWees to help out.
Each team scored three goals
in the first period, and London
added two more goals in the
last two stanzas.
