QUESTION: Please explain the
meaning of a Commercial Motor
Vehicle?
ANSWER: The Highway Traffic
Act defines a Commercial Mot-
or Vehicle as any motor vehicle
having permanently attached
thereto a truck or delivery body
and includes ambulances, hearses
casket wagons, fire apparatus,
police patrols, motor buses and
tractors used for hauling purp-
oses on the highways.
QUESTION; Do I require a SMV
sign on my tractor if I have a
flashing'red light?
ANSWR: Yes, you do. The
Highway Traffic Act states every
farm tractor and self-propelled
implement of husbandry when
operated on a highway or any
vehicle towed by either of them
shall have a slow moving veh-
icle sign attached to the rear
thereof in accordance with the
regulations except when directly
crossing a highway.
QUESTION: I have just taken
up residence in Ontario. Am
I required to present a mechan-
ical fitness certificate when I
register the car in this province?
ANSWER: Yes, you must. The
owner of a motor vehicle cur-
rently registered in any jurisdic-
tion other than Ontario who now
seeks to register that motor
vehicle in Ontario must produce
a certificate of mechanical fit-
ness or surrender the plates.
QUESTION: Must I stop for
Stop signs when the road is under
construction?
ANSWER: A Stop sign is a Stop
sign and means the same at 4
o'clock in the morning as it
does at 4 o'clock in the after-
noon whether the road is under
construction or not. The signs
are placed there byregulation
made under an ordr in council
which is what makes the signs
legal. I have heard people say
that they have received a ticket
for disobeying stop signs and the
only car on the road was a pol-
ice car and they didn't see him
until he stopped them. The
amount of traffic or the time of
day has nothing to do with whe-
ther you stop or not. So when
you are approaching a Stop sign,
comply with the rules of the road,

How to keep
the traffic moving
when rush hour hits
the hot water.
Rush hour. Every family has one.
When there are dishes to be
washed, kids to be tubbed, Dad
scrubbing up. Then Sis decides
she has to have a shower. It takes
a lot of hot water to keep the
traffic moving.
That's why you need the Cascade
electric water heater—the big
producer. It's got the capacity a
busy family needs, and it's
economical, too. Cascade keeps
you in hot water for only pennies
a day. Ask your Hydro about the
quiet, clean, electric Cascade
water heater.
