Tax Rebate in Hensall Up
(continued from page 1)•
Arising from correspondence
from the Department of Trade
and Development, asking for
an industrial contact, council
suggested that Harold Knight
be named the industrial contact
for the village of Hensall and
he should head up a committee
for the same purpose. Baker be-
lieved that the council should
co-operate 100x/0 with the com-
mittee to help in any way it can.
A suggestion that council set
up a budget for an industrial
committee was rnet with ap-
proval,
-
proval, and snore will be cone
in the future. Paul Neilands
expressed main the need for
more land for housing.
The P.U.C. requested reeve
Jaques to ask council for approv-
al to issue debentures for a sub-
station for hydro in the village,
and the reeve proceeded to
explain the plans. The sub stat-
ion had been needed in the vil-
lage for several years and isi now
a necessity. It is to be a 3000
K.V.A. sub station and to cost
approximately $40, 000.; and
should be ample for at least
15 years needs. The village
would only use less that 5b0/0
of the potential, and the hydro
coming into town would cost
less but will not cost the con-
sumer less,
The reeve assured council
that so long as the P.U.C. has
funds for, operations, the hydro
rates would not increase. 1 -ie
stated that there are enough
funds available to pay the costs
of lines coming into the village
when the new sub station is
constructed, which would prob-
ably take a year, and there
would be no payments in 1970.
The reeve also asked council
to approve debentures for exten-
sions in the water -works depart-
ment. It is necessary to construct
a loop in the water line on Ox-
ford St., W., at the end of Broeil
St. , and also necessary to install
a larger water main on Lorne
Ave, which has only a three-
quarter inch main at present.
The need for two fire hydrants
in the latter vicinity is most
urgent.
The reeve did not have the
exact cost of water extension
work, but thought it might be
in the vicinity of $10, 000. He
also informed council that the
P, U , C , is in the process of
making an agreement to take
over the maintenance of the
water tower at the Boise Cascade
plant and this should help the
town water supply.
The reeve and clerk were
authorized to prepare a by-law
to issue debentures for the P.U.0
to carry out the water extension
work.
Harold Knight was appointed
representative to the Mid -West-
ern Ontario Regional Develop-
ment Council.
The reeve then asked for a
motion from council to retire
into committee of the whole,
to discuss the salaries of the
clerk, Earl Campbell, and the
roads superintendent, E,R, Davis.
The press then retired to another
rocm, but on returning to the
council chambers, were not in-
formed if there had been any
alteration to sane.
Council received two tenders
for carrying out the extension to
Oxford St. West and tentatively
accepted one, but wish for
prizes on.gravel by yard, etc.,
before final decision is made.
The clerk informed council
that the Fire Marshall wished
to meet with its members on
February 24, to explain Mutual
Fire Agreement standards. It
was decided that councillors
Baker, Neilands and Erb should
attend the convention of the
Ontario Rural Municipalities in
Hamilton, on February 9 and 10.
By-law 41, 1970, was given
third reading and finally passed,.
the above being a by-law to
appoint the several members to
the Recreation, Parks and Com-
munity Centres Board. The fol-
lowing members were so named:
from council; Leonard Erb, Paul
Neilands for 1970, for the years
1970-71, Cecil Pepper and
Wayne Smith; and for the year
1970, Homer Campbell, Eric
Mansfield and Anthony Charrette,
