Hensall Winter Carnival
Proves Outstanding Event
A Snow Queen dance and a
minor hockey tournament open-
ed a successful Winter Carnival
weekend in Hensall last Friday
night, and other events the
following two days helped to
make the event one great suc-
cess. Paul Neilands, chairman
of the carnival, said following
the three-day affair that it
would become an annual event.
He cited the co-operation of
various organizations in the
community as being the main
ingredient for the success of
the carnival.
Ten girls competed on Friday
night for the title of "Ilensall
Snow Queen" and the winner
was Miss Dianne Cleave, of
Bayfield. The two irls who
were crowned as Princessess
were Miss Kathy Hendrick, of
Kippen, and Miss Linda Koehler,
of Hensall. Miss Cleave entered
the competition as Iviiss Boise -
Cascade, while the two runner-
ups were Miss Style Beauty Shop
and Miss Bluewater Playboy.
Bob Baker and Lloyd Mousseau
were in charge of the Snow Que-
en contest, while the Iiensall
Western Horsemen supervised
the dance.
In three minor hockey games
played on Friday night, the Hen-
sall Novices defeated Adastral
Park 8-0; the Ilensall PeeWees
downed Adastral Park 6-0, and
the Ilensall Bantams won 8-3
over the same opposition.
On Saturday afternoon a large
parade, led by the Seaforth
District High School Girl's Trum-
pet Band, started off the festiv-
ities. About 20 floats took part.
Following the parade to the
park, snowmobile races and
novelty events were staged
throughout the afternoon, as
well as free snowmobile rides
for the children. Members of the
Hensall Legion served weiners
and beans ni the•picnic pavilion.

Richard Grerner, Bill Bedard
and Danny Schilbe added singles
to aid to the cause.
In the first period Gerald Wei -

added three more in the second
and finished off with two goals
in the last stanza.
There was only one penalty
called, to Zurich.
Mite victory over Clinton 2-0.
Les Consitt and Robert McGregor
scored the two ilensall goals,
The Zurich Lions Club old-tim-
ers downed the liensall Kinsmen
old-timers 7-4 in a game that
provided plenty of thrills for the
spectators. Following this the
Hensall Midgets played an ex-
hibition game with the Exeter
Midgets, and came out on rhe
short end of a 5-1 score. While
all this activity was going on in
the arena, bingo was being play-
ed in the arena auditorium.
On Sunday afternoon there
was more snowmobile events in
the park, and more hockey in
the arena. The Zurich Mites
edged the IIensall Mites 2-1,
with Grant Love getting both
Zurich goals, while Robbie
Lavery scored for Hensall. Fol-
lowing this the. Lambeth Flyers
edged -the Zurich Dominions
4-2 in a regularly scheduled
OIIA Junior D hockey game,
which was transferred to the
Hensall Arena as part of the
carnival activities. The only
confusing part of this game
was that both teams wore Zur-
ich sweaters, but somehow the
Lambeth crew forgot their own
sweaters, An SOS -had to be
sent out for the Zurich Juvenile
sweaters before the game could
get under way.
A poster contest involving
200 pupils at the Hensall Public
School gave the carnival good
advance promotion, as well as
other means of advertising.
All proceeds from the event are
being turned over for renovations
to the arena in Hensall.
