week. Eighty-five clubs part-
icipated in various classes of
the Western Ontario Figure
Skating Competition held last
Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Meet in. Hensall
Unit 2 of Hensall United
Church Women met for the
first meeting of the new year
on January 12. Mrs. Harold
Currie welcomed everyone and
gave a few thoughts to think
about for the new year.
The new U.C.W. theme song
was introduced and sung, fol-
lowed by prayer. Mrs. Jack
Drysdale presented the devot-
ional, with the theme being
"Time" telling the members to
"make good use of each and
every single minute we have."
Mrs. Currie read a poem "Think
it Over."
Mrs. Roger Venner very cap-
ably presented the study "Recon-
ciliation of a Broken World."
Roll call was answered with 16
members.
It was announced that the •
congregational dinner and an-
nual meeting are on Wednesday,
January 28. Executive meeting
is on Monday, January 19, at
1:30 p. rn.
Huron and Perth Presbyterial
of the U , C . W. is to be held
Thursday, January 29, at Wes-
ley Willis United Church, Clin-
ton.
Meeting closed with a hymn
and a prayer. Mrs. Ron Wareing
and her group served a delicious

Plan For Lunch
Z.M.A.A. AUXILIARY
The regular monthly meeting
of the Ladies Auxiliary to the
Z.M.A.A was held last Wed-
nesday evening in the arena.
President, Mrs. Donald O'Brien
chaired the meeting, and plans
were made to serve a lunch to
both the home teams and the
visiting teams on the Minor
Hockey Day, to be held in
Zurich, on Saturday, January 24.
Mothers of these boys will be
called upon for a small donation
to help cover expenses of this
day. Also any mothers who
would be willing to help pre -

The Auxiliary are planning
on holding an adult skating party

The warning was contained
in a report of a Department of
Highways study which found
that the use of studded tires on
bare highways could reduce the
normal life -span of highways
by 50 to 75 per cent.
Itredicted that the use of
studded tires in Ontario likely
would rise from about 35 per
cent thisear to 60 per cent of
registeredcarsby the winter of
1971-72, and remain at about
that proportion thereafter.
The report estimated that the
cost of damage caused by 1, 500,
000 stud -equipped vehicles dur-
ing the winter of 1971-72 could
be $10, 788, 000, or about $7
for each car using them. Dam-
age costs would rise to $3'7, 000,
000 during the 1977-78 financial
