CHRISTMAS''EDITION ENTERTAIN SENIOR CITIZENS - Members of the Hensall Kinsmen Club last Thursday night held their annual Senior Citizens night, when they entertain older residents in their commun- ity. Kinsmen Entertain Senior Citizens The Kinsmen Club of Hensall held their third annual Senior Citizens night at Hensall Public School, Thursday evening, Dec- ember 18. Forty senior citizens took the bus trip from the school and enjoyed a tour of Christmas lights at Exeter, Hensall, and areas. A program followed at the school which included selections by the Glee Club of the school under the direction of L. Wein, music supervisor; reading, John Baker; violin selections by Ce- cil Maxwell, with Ralph Fitz- patrick on the piano; accordian selections, Kenneth Jones; piano duet, Mrs. Robert Pryde and her daughter Janet. The evening concluded with a short movie. Santa distributed Christmas Greetings Santa and his reindeer send their best wishes, and we add our thanks! Harry Horton gave courtesy re- marks, and Ron Wareing was master of ceremonies -for the program. 0 AMBER REBEKAHS The annual Christmas meeting of Amber Rebekah Lodge was held Wednesday everting, Dec- ember 17, in the Lodge Hall with a good attendance of mem- bers present, and Noble Grand Mrs. Elgin Thompson presiding. Arrangements were made for distribution of Christmas gifts for the shut-ins. Christrnas greeting from the various lodges were read. A Christmas program of read- ings and carols and an exchange of gifts by members was one of the highlights of the evening. 0 School Boards Now Four Payments Some area municipalities may have to adopt interim tax col- . lections in view of a ruling by the Ontario government that all municipalities will have to make four equal payments to the county board of education in 197 0. An act passes last week requires almost all municipalities in Ontario to make such payments March 31, June 30, Sept. 30 and December 15. Each payment must equal 25 percent of the respective municipality's ed- ucation tax bill for the current year. Most rural municipalities collect taxes only once a year. with the deadline being Decem- ber 15. These centres will now be faced with the choice of changing their tax collection procedures or borrowing money to make the interim payments to the board. The bill also provides for pen- alties in cases of municipal del- inquency in payment as well as giving school boards per- mission to pay discounts to communities who make their payments in advance of due dates. Most county boards have been in a financial dilemma this year as most municipalities.have not forwarded payments ul Dec- ember. The Huron County board learn- ed that interest charges on mon- ies borrowed this year have cost $115, 000. St. Paul's ACW Honor Member on 80th* Birthday The regular 'meeting of the Anglican Church Women of St, Paul's Church, Hensall was held in December at the home of Mrs. Frank Forrest, with Mrs. Annie Reid .in the chair. The meeting commenced with the singing of a Christmas Carol, accompanied by Mrs. Forrest on the piano. The business of the day was attended to and the ladies agreed As Christmas comes, here's a wish that true merriment may endure all through the holidays. TUESDAY, DECEMBER 23, 1969 to collect used postage stamps for the. Canadian Bible Society, and anyone wishing to donate used stamps should present same to Mrs, Reid. At the close of the meeting, Mrs. Aldwinckle, who recently celebrated her eightieth birthday, was presented with a gift, a lovel ly cup and saucer, and birthday card, on behalf of all the mem- bers, Games were played with Mrs, George Anderson as master of ceremonies, followed by refresh- ments, which included a birth- day cake made by Mrs. Forrest, inhonor otior of Mrs. Aldwinckle.
