Dominions Lose to Exeter; Beat Lucan 4-3
The Zurich Dominions, after
playing eight games without a
loss in the western division of
the OHA Junior D league, suf-
fered a humiliating 11-1 defeat
on Sundayafternoon, at the
hands of irst-place Exeter Hawks
As a result of the loss, the stand-
ings in the g.roup remain the
same with Exeter firmly settled
in first place, and Zurich in
second, five points ahead of
Lucan. It was only the fourth
loss of the season for Zurich.
For the locals, nothing went
the right way after a hectic
first period, in which the visit-
ors jumped into a 2-1 lead. Both
teams skated hard and played a
real good brand of hockey in the
first 20 minutes, with the Dorn -
inions drawing first blood at the
5.13 mark. John Loader was
the marksman for Zurich with
the assists going to Bill Stirling
and Bob Langille. Before the
period ended Larry Haugh had
scored his first of four goals for
the Hawks, and Randy Preszcad-
tor registered the other. Aubrey
Bedar1, filling in at centre -ice
for injured Rich Schilbe, was
cut above the eye and had to
have six stitches before the
second period started.
In the second period the Exeter
crew started rolling fast and the
locals seemed to wilter away,
as the visitors pumped in four
unanswered goals. They added
five more in the third period to
give them the victory that shov-
ed them five points ahead of the
Dominions in the league stand-
ings.
Larry Haugh was the big dun
in the Exeter victory, scoring
four goals. Barry Baynllam aided
their cause with three, while
Larry Laye, Rick Schell, Joe
O"Rourke and Randy Preszcadtor
each registerd one. In the third
period Bill Stirling was nicked
on the chin and required a cou-
ple of stitches to fill the gap.
A total of 22 penalties were
called in the game, with 13 of
them goingto the local squad.
Close to 50 fans were on hand
to watch their locals go down
to defeat, but were not too dis-
appointed after the fine showing
the team have made to date.
Zurich was still playing without
two of their star centre -men,
Rich Schilbe and Kevin McKin-
non,
cKinnon, who are both out with in-
juries.
ZURICH 4 - LUCAN 3
The Zurich Dominions finally
broke the Irish in Lucan last
Wednesday night, when they
carne home with a thrilling 4-3
victory over their arch -rivals.
Sensational goal -tending by
Gary Geoffrey, especially in
the third period when Lucan
tried everything possible to tie
the score, played a big part in
the local victory.
Tom Hodgins shot Lucan into
a 1-0 lead midway through the
first period, and despite many
close calls at both ends of the
ice, neither team managed to
dent the twines again in that
initial session. There were only
two penalties called, one to
each team, as both teams
stuck to playing the game fair
and square.
At the 8.17 mark in the second
period Bill Stirling banged in
his first of two goals in the game,
when he capitalized on a neat
passing play from John Loader
and Bill Taylor. Four minutes
later Loader made no mistake
when he let go with a drive
from close in to easily beat
Jerry Freeman, in the Lucan
net. Stirling and Bruce Schoen-
hals drew assists on the play.
However, a minute and a half 1a•
ter Hodgins scored his second
goal of the game for the Irish
to tie the score at 2-2. With
just a little over a minute left
in the middle stanza, Stirling
beat Freeman for the second
time on a pass from Loader and
Schoenhals, to give Zurich a
3-2 lead at the end of the
second period.
The third period was only
three minutes old when Ron
Corriveau slapped in a pass
from a line -mate Aubrey Bed-
ard, to give the locals a com-
manding 4-2 lead. For the
next 15 minutes the Irish crew
hemmed Zurich into their own
end of the ice, and this'is when
Geoffrey rose to sensational

PLAY EX3IBITION
Since the schedule for the
Zurich Dominions has them out
of action until Saturday night,
December 27, an exhibition
game has been lined up for this
Sunday afternoon, when they
will tangle with the Zurich Fly-
4fi
ers, intermediate entry in the
WOAA. Game time is 2 p.m.
Following some recent cont-
roversay over the amount of
publicity given the last exhib-
ition game between these two
teams, the contest is being list-
ed as a grudge match, and both
clubs will be going all out for
a victory. Hockey fans can be
sure of seeing some real good,
fast action, with very few pen-
alties, as the players all stick
to the game and work hard to
see how many goals can be
scored.
The juniors will hold regular
workouts during the two- week
layoff, and by the time the
schedule resumes they hope to
have Rich Schilbe and Kevin
McKinnon both back in the line-
up, The host the Mitchell Hawk;
in Zurich on Sunday afternoon,
December 28.
