Miss Anne Hayter of Varna
was successful in passim the
grade eight piano examination
of the Western Ontario Conserv-
atory of music with honors. Anne
also passed the grade theory
examination with honors at the
midsummer session. She is a
pupil of Miss Greta Lammie,
Hensall,
Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Underwood
of Gorrie were weekend guests
with Mrs. John Henderson and
family.
Mrs. George Armstrong is a
patient in South Huron Hospital,
Exeter, with injuries she suffer-
ed in a fall at her home.
The Kinsmen Cluh of Hensail
are planning their third annual
Senior Citizen night at the
Hensall Public School, on Thurs-
day, December 18. A bus will
leave from the school at 7 p.m.
for a tour of Christmas lights,
with a small program of local
entertainment and lunch to fol-
low.

The Legion Hall, beautifully
decorated in Christmas motif
was the setting for the Christmas
meeting of Hensall Women"s
Institute last Wednesday even-
ing, with Mrs. Clarence Reid,
president, presiding.
During the business period plans
were laid to hold a euchre in
January, with proceeds to go to
the Hensall Recreation Park and
Community Centre board for
repairs for the arena.
Mrs. Grace Peck presented
reports of the fall board meeting
of South Huron Women Institutes,
held in Hensall, and also a re -

The members of the Loyal
Orange Lodge held its annual
meeting and election of officers
on Monday evening of last week.
It was preceded by a turkey din-
ner. A committee was appoint-
ed to look after the skating rink.
The election of officers result-
ed as follows; W. M.; William
Dowson, D.M.; Grant Webster,
Chaplain; Louis Taylor; Rec.
Sec.; Ronald Taylor; Treasurer,
Fred McClymont; Marshall,
Watson Webster; 1st Lect. John

mont, Committee; Ralph Steph-
enson, Frank McClinchey, Rob-
ert Taylor, Carl Diehl, Charles
Reid.
BIBLE SOCIETY
The secretary of the Varna-
Goshen Bible Society, Ernest
Pollock, reported that $170. had
been collected and forwarded
to the head office.

Taylor presiding. There were
ten members present. The or-
ganist, Miss Mary Ann Kalbfl-
eisch, led the singing. Miss •
Charlene Reid read tete scripture
lesson. The prayer was given
by Miss Mary Ann Kalbfleisch;
the secretary, Miss Nancy Faw-
cett, read the minutes and Miss
Sylvia Wilson took up the col-
lection. The members brought
presents for the Children's Wel-
fare at Goderich, and also
finished making Christmas can-
dles. After recreation the meet -
in° was closed with the Explor-
er s prayer.

The Christmas meeting of the
U . C , W , was held in the church
last Thursday evening with the
president, Mrs. Charles Reid
presiding, who gave the opening
prayer. Group t tree was in
charge of devotions with Mrs.
John Ostrom leading and assisted
by Mrs. Ralph Steplenson, Mrs.
Gordon Johnston, Mrs. Fred
McClymont and Mrs Murvin
Johnston.
The pastor Rev. M. Morrison
gave a talk on "Thoughts of
Christmas". The roll call was
answered by twenty-five mem-
bers with a gift for the London
Rescue Mission: Twenty-one
calls were made to sick and
shut-ins during the past month.
A thank -you note was read from
the Children's Aid Society for a
donation which was made last
month.
A large number of greeting
cards were handed in, to be sent
to the Bluewater Rest Home.
Mrs. Ida IvlcClinchey presented
the slate of officers for 1970:

vice president, Mrs, Ralph Steph-
enson; rec. secretary, Mrs. Roy

The meeting was closed with
prayer and group two served the
lunch.

Mrs, Carl Payne submitted
highlights of the area convention
held at St, Thomas, which she
attended as a delegate.
Mrs. Fred Beer presided for the
program, with songs by five
little girls, Betty Beer, Jennifer
Cook, Beth Turvey, and the
Boyle twins, Karen and Kim.
Miss Greta Lammie was accom-
panist. Sam Rannie was guest
soloist, and also led the sing-
song.
Mrs. B. Beaton introduced the
guest speaker, Rev. W. Jarvis,
who spoke on "Christmas Cust-
oms throughout the World." Mrs.
Elizabeth Riley gave courtesy
remarks.
DELIVER TREATS
The friendship and visitation
committee of Hensall United
Church, Thursday, December 11,
packed and delivered thirty
Christmas boxes to shut-ins of
the congregation and patients
in South Huron Hospital, Exeter,
Blue Water Rest Home, Zurich,
and Huronview, Clinton.
Committee in charge were;

mas Party for the Residents on
Wednesday evening, December
10. Mrs. Beatrice Geiger and
her committee were in charge
of the program and refreshments.
The program was opened by
Mrs, Geiger reciting a poem.
A sextette including, Mrs,
Harold Zehre, Mrs, Cleve Gin-
gerich, Mrs. Harold Soper, Mrs.
Steve Gingerich, Mrs. John.
Zandwyck and Mary Lou Erb
sang a number of Christmas
Carols, Melvin Melick favored
the group with appropriate sel-
ections on his guitar. Mrs. Gei-
ger gave several readings on
Keeping Christmas" and a poem
entitled, "Christmas comes
but once a year."
The residents and Auxiliary
members joined together in
singing Christmas carols, ac-
companied by Mrs. Norman
Fleischauer on the piano, as
they awaited the arrival of Santa
Each resident was given a gift
by Santa on behalf of the Aux-
iliary.
Chester Smith thanked the
Mrs. Jack Simmons, Mrs. Lorne
Hay, Mrs. Albert Shirray, Mrs.
William Clement, Mrs. Stanley
Mitchell, Mrs. Wilmer Ferguson,
Mrs. Jack Consitt and Mrs. Er-
nest Chipchase.
In the business meeting it was
decided to have the annual
meeting on January '7, at 2 p.m.
All convenors of the various
committees are to have their
reports ready.
The Auxiliary has purchased
new bedspreads for the residents,
