Federation President Disturbed
Over Department of Agriculture
The individual agricultural
producer should not be expected
to carry the cost of recent chan-
ges in the policy of the Canada
Department of Agriculture.
Gordon L. Hill, President of
the Ontario Federation of Agr-
iculture, emphasizes that "these
changes conte when returns are
really too low." Mr. Hill is
very disturbed with the proposed
changes, especially with the
fact that dairy farmers will lose
about $1 million in funds.

The Federation President points
out that "the hog premiums will
be especially apparent when the
hog production cycle reaches
its peak,
Mr. Hill goes on to stress that
the government, in a period
where inflation is a serious real-
ity, is unwilling or unable to
curb rising production costs.
Yet they do not hesitate to
cut the incomes of farmers
which are already well below
those of other parts of Canada's
properous society, " he argues.
"Farmers are not causing the
rising inflation, but the y are
being heavilypenalized because
the governmnt cannot control
it, " he continues.
idr. hill asks what government
plans are for adjusting farmers'
futures. He also wonders what
the government expects farmers
to be able to do to gain a living
elsewhere without assistance and
direction.
Mr. Hill suggests that a special
debate he held in the house of
Commons on the proposed change
in agricultural policy,

This was the last photograph taken of CBC veteran J. Frank
Willis, who died of a heart attack Sunday, Oct. 26. It was taken
to mark the 50th anniversary of radio broadcasting in Canada.
With Mr. Willis (left) holding a modern transistor, are Helen
Hutchinson, of CBC Radio's Matinee, holding an early crystal or
"cat's whiskers" set and Bill McNeil, of CBC Radio's Assignment,
with one of the two golden microphones used by King George V
in Winnipeg, May 24, 1939. The scene is Ontario's Tush new
Science Centre in Don Mills, a suburb of Toronto.
