Flyers Open Season Here Friday
The Zurich Flyers will open
their home schedule in WOAA
Intermediate C. Minor this Fri-
day night at the local arena,
when they play hosts to Brussels,
Game time is 8 p.m.
Zurich will play in a five -teary
grouping this season, with teams
from Dashwood, Brussels, Blyth
and Ripley. With Dashwood and
Zurich Peewees Come Up With Two
Victories in Past Week's Action
Monday night the Zurich Pee
Wee's won a very close game
against the tough Hensall team
by a score of 4-2. Derek O'Brien
and Greg Love were the goal
scorers, each capitalized on
two plays. Perry Mattson and
Fred Campbell were the marks-
men for Hensall.
Each team scored once in the
first and second period and it
wasn't until midway through the
third period when Greg Love
scored his first goal of the game
to break the tie.
There were only four penalties
in the game with Zurich draw-
ing three and Hensall one.
ZURICH 2- HENSALL 2
Friday night the Pee Wee's
tied the tough Hensall crew 2-2.
Zurich's goals were scored by
Derek O'Brien and Wayne Sch-
ilbe. Hensall singles went to
Sandy Ingram and Robbie Noan.
Zurich took a 1-0 lead in the
first period and kept it until the
11:00 minute mark of the second
period. At the end of the second
Hensall had a 2-1 lead, but Zur-
ich managed to tie the game
before it ended.
There were no penalties called
throughout the game.
ZURICH 4 -HURON PARK 2
On Saturday afternoon the
Zurich Pee Wee's brought home
a 4-2 victory over Huron Park.
Derek O'Brien was the big gun
for Zurich as he banged in
three goals. The other Zurich
goal was accounted for by Wayne
chilbe. Paul Jenson was the
goal scorer for Huron Park as he
scored both their goals.
At the end of the first period
the score was a 1-1 tie, but in
the second Zurich made it 3-1.
In the last stanza each team col-
lected one more.
There was only one penalty
in the game with it going to
Huron Park.

Ripley, the locals will only play
a single schedule, while they
tangle in a double -round with
the other two teams.
This year's edition of the
Flyers looks like the most pro-
mising in many years, even
stronger that last year's team
which won the WOAA Intermed-
iate D title, In goal the Flyers
have Rick Jeffrey, who last
season played with the Zurich
Dominions, Junior D entry in
the OHA. Backing up Jeffrey in
the nets will be Percy Bedard.
On the blueline the Flyers
will have playing coach Dick
Bedard, along with George
Suplat, Larry Willert and Barry
Bloch, to forth a powerful rear-
guard.
Forwards out with the team
this season include Bob Johnston,
Bob Merrier, Earl Wagner, Bill
Chipchase, Grant Walker, Scott
Burton, Jim Pfaff, Ken Smale,
Bob Carlile, and Fred Wells.
The team has practiced for the
past few weeks and have at
least three or four exhibition
garnes in readiness for their
opener.
Manager for the Flyers is
Greg Willert, who also piloted
the team last season.
