INTERESTING HAPPENINGS IN ONTARIO'S PRETTIEST VILLAGE
There will be two new faces
on the Bayfield council next
year, Paul West and Don Warner,
E, W. Oddleifson, at present
a councillor, was acclaimed as
Reeve for a one year term on
Monday.
Those nominated for council
are, 1-1, F. Baker, F.E. McFad-
den, Merton Merner, Don War-
ner and Paul West. Following
the nominations Brigadier F, A ,
Clift assumed the c lair at the
request of the large number pre-
sent, and invited the nominees
to say a few words. The incom-
ing reeve said he was very plea-
sed to be able to carry on some
of the important projects, under-
taken by the outgoing council
but not yet completed, he cited
the need to maintain public
ownership of the approach to
the north pier and to insure that
the Zoning Bylaw receives 0
B. approval. He mentioned that
it might be possible to save $600
per annum by taking over the
street lights. Mr. Oddleifson
thanked his sponsor and said that
he hoped that he couldartially
fill the shoes of his predecessorsp
ex-reeve Brigadier Clift and
Reeve Frank McFadden.
Paul West stated, that he
would work to the best of his
ability for the good of rhe entire
villa'e , and felt that this might
best De achieved by following
the example of rhe outgoing
council.
Don Warner thanked bis spon-
sors and said that he would be
pleased to serve. ,
Councillor Merner spoke next
and withdrew his name. He sug-
gested that rhe cost of the elect-
ion would be better spent in a
year's time in an effort to ger
a representative from either
Bayfield or Stanley Township on
the County School Board. (At
present this area is represented
by two residents of the Seaforth
area.) Councillor Baker was not
present, but had already made
arrangements to qualify.
Reeve McFadden said that his
main reason for accepting a
nomination as a council member
was because of the importance
of completing some intportant
items which `tad been started
while he was reeve. With Merton
Merner's refusal to stand the
other four nominees are in by
acclamation.
Reports on their work were
given by the outgoing reeve and
