Zurich Dominions Win Opener
The Zurich Dominions open-
ed their OHA Junior D schedule
on a winning note last Sunday
afternoon when they edged the
powerful Lambeth Flyers 4-3 in
a penalty -filled battle before a
crowd of about 400 hometown
fans. Captain Ron Corriveau
scored the winning goal at the
12.35 mark of the third period,
one munute after DesPenelegan
had erased what looked like the
winning goal for Zurich off the
stick of Stu Mustard.
Last night, Wednesday, the
Dominions played their second
game of the season in Lucan,
and the next home game is
scheduled for this Sunday after-
noon when they entertain the
Exeter Hawks at 2 p.m.
With less than two minutes
played in the first period vet-
eran Terry Davis shot Lambeth
into a 1-0 lead, and then at the
5.07 mark another of last year's
championship Flyers, Bruce
Mitchell, made it 2-0 for the
visitors. Forty-five seconds later
Rich Schilbe banged in a pass
from Ron Corriveau and Gary
Kyle, to put the Dominions
right back into contention. Nine
penalties were called against
Zurich in the first session, with
the visitors only drawing two.
Midway through the second
period, Shane McKinnon capit-
alized on a neat passing. play
with Bob Cook and Fred Arm-
strong, to tie the score 2-2. Zur-
ich picked up three penalties
in the period, compared to four
Zurich Flyers Will Play Host to
Tillsonburg in Exhibition Contest
The Zurich Flyers, Intermed-
iate entry in the WOAA, will
be hosts to the Tillsohburg A and
J Appolos on Saturday night, in
an exhibition contest at the
local arena. Game time is 8 p. rr
A feature of the game will
be the appearance of a former
Zurich hockey player, Jerome
Geoffrey, in the Tillsonburg net.
Geoffrey has been a resident of
Tillsonburg for some years, and
is a brother of Gary, who plays
goal for the Zurich Dominions.
Jerome played minor hockey in
Zurich for a number of years.
Next Monday night at 9 p.m.
the Flyers will play host to the
Dashwood Bears, in another
exhibition contest. Dashwood
has also entered a team in the
WOAA grouping this season, and
this clash should be a test of
what is in store for hockey fans
this season between the two
arch rivals.
The local Flyers look like a
strong contender this season, and
should be favourites to hold the
championship they won last year.
Practically all the members of
last year's team are back in the
fold, and as well two or three
Meeting Called
To Discuss
Rec League Play

league is being organized this
season to play hockey in Zurich

meeting to organize the group
will beheld in the Zuric - Arena
on Friday night, November 7,
at 8 p.m.

group or include any players
who were with organized clubs,

spoiled the theme of "recreation
league."
All persons who are interested
in playing in such a league
should attend this meeting. There
is no age limit -anyone up to
65 years can take parr.
new recruits are working out
with the club at present. Bill
Chipchase and Grant Walker,
former members of the Exeter
Junior Hawks, are lining up
with the locals and should add
greatly to their scoring strength.
Members of the club from
last year who are returning to
action again this season are;
Dick Bedard, George Suplat,
Barry Bloch, Larry Willett, Percy
Bedard, Paul Steckle, Bob Mer-
ner, Bob Johnston, Earl Wagner,
Pete Postill, Jim Pfaff, Bob Car-
lile and Ken Westlake. Another
newcomer to the squad is Dave
McNair, who moved to Zurich
some time ago.

In order to combat a red measles
epidemic in the Dominican Re-
public in early 1969, Canadian and
U.S. physicians aided local author-

for Lambeth. Even though they
held a decided edge on play
throughout the rest of the period,
the local failed to beat Larry
Woodiwess in the Flyer's net.
At the 9.36 mark of the third
period Stu Mustard rifled in
what looked like the winning
goal, on a beautifulass from
Schilbe, but the lead was short-
lived as the Flyers roared right
back with Penelegan denting
the twine, at the 11.45 m ark.
Less than a minute later Corri-
veau scored the winner on a
pretty play with linemates Mus
tard and Schilbe. Lambeth pick-
ed up six penalties in the session,
compared to only two for the
Dominions.
Zurich out -shot the visitors
37-26 in the game, and held
an edge on play throughout the
game. Gary Geoffrey, in the
Dominion's net, came up with
numerous spectacular saves, with
only two practices under his belt
prior to the game.
This years' squad looks like
a strong contender in the group-
ing they are playing in, and
should provide fans with plenty
of excitement in the games dread
