Zurich Dominions Play Sunday
It's hockey time in Zurich this
Sunday afternoon when the local
Zurich Dominions open their
30 -game schedule in OHA Jun-
ior D Competition against the
highly -touted Lambeth Flyers.
These are the same two teams
which squared off against each
other in a thrilling playoff series
last spring.
This is the second year for jun-
ior hockey in Zurich, and if fans
are given as many thrills this
year as they were last year in
the first attempt at junior com-
petition, they should ger their
money's worth.
The, junior entry is being spon-
sored by the Zurich Minor Ath-
letic Association, of which
Doug O'Brien was recently re-
elected president. A special
committee of the MAA, under
the chairmanship of vice-pres-
ident Herb Turkheim has been
set up to supervise the operation
of this team. Committee mem-
bers are Bob Merrier, Bob John-
ston, Stewart Deitz, Jerry Rader,
Gary Gingerich, Isidore Laporte
and the president, Doug O'Brien.
Out of this committee a co-
operative effort has been set up
to look after various aspects of
operating the team. Serving
together as ream manager are
Herb Turkheim and Bob Merner;
coach, Doug O'Brien and Bob
Johnston; trainer, Jerry Rader
and Gary Gingerich; transport-
ation, Stewart Deitz and Isidore
Laporte.
During the past two weeks the
team has been working out at
the Clinton arena, and this week
practices were scheduled to take
place at the local ice palace, in
readiness for the season opener
on Sunday.
Gary Geoffrey is back for his
second season in rhe nets for the
locals, while Rick Jeffrey is also
expected to work out shortly.
The stand-by goalies will be
Glenn Gascho, from last year's
juvenile squad.
On defence the locals will
have two of last year's stalwarts
in the line-up. They are Bruce
Schoenhals, of Clinton, and
Bill Taylor, of Hensall. Along
with these two the club will
have newcomers Greg Jervis, of
Clinton, and Bob Cook of the
Londesboro area, Also working
on the blueline will be Gary
, Kyle of Hensall, who was con-
verted late last year from a
goalie to defence.
One of last year's high -flying
forward units will be pack in
the line-up intact. They are
Stew Mustard, Ron Corriveau
and Rick Schilbe. With the
disbanding of the Goderich
Junior B hockey team this week,
Bill Stirling is planning to re-
join the club, and another mem-
ber of the Goderich club, Rick
Fremlin of Clinton, is planning
to work out with the locals.
Other players returning from
last year's squad are Kevin Mc
Kinnon and John McKinley,
while at least half a dozen
others are also expected to be
in the lineup. Among these are
Shane McKinnon, Aubrey Bedard,
Gred Armstrong and Syd Ramer,
all from the minor ranks of Zur-
ich teams.
There is nothing that would
make both the players and the
management happier than to
see a full house at the opening
game , so come on all you hock-
ey fans, let's see you at the
arena on Sunday afternoon.
Game time is 2 p. m,
