OCTOBER, 1919
A number of people from the
village went to London to see
the Prince of Wales.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Gallman
have moved into the apartments
above Melick and Braun's hard-
ware store.
A shipment of clothing was
made by the members of the
Lutheran Church, on Monday,
to war stricken people in Poland,
Romania and other Southern
European countries.
Men from London are engaged
putting up the telephone cable
from the Zurich central to the
western limits of the village.
The installing of the cable will
do away with much line trouble.
A movement is under way to
have Hensall take advantage of
the Housing Act to provide more
houses for the village.
Ralph Stephenson has purchased
the 50 -acre farm of Charles
Farquhar in Stanley Township
which lies along side his own
property.

A reception was held in Goshen
church last Friday evening in
honour of Lloyd Keys, who has
just returned from overseas. He
was presented with a signet ring
during the course of the evening.
Leon ieffrey has purchased the
farm and brick yard near St.
Joseph from O. Cabana, and
gets immediate possession. Mr.
Cabana has also sold the lot
known as the Balmoral Hotel
in St. Joseph.

OCTOBER, 1929
Mr. and Mrs. Peter Kropf,
who have been residents of Zur-
ich for a goodly number of years
moved with their household ef-
fects to Kitchener. While in
this area Mr. Kropf was one of
the popular thresherman of the
community.
John Foster, of .the Babylon Line
recently drilled an outstanding
well on the farm of Chris Erb,`
on the Bronson Line. The water
comes up with such force that
it's own pressure carries it up to
the second floor of the house.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Keys left
Blake at the beginning of the
week, for their new home near
Exeter.
Henry Horton, who has been for
some time in Alberta and the
coast, has returned to Hensall
and he intends to spend the win-
ter months with his parents.
An oyster supper and concert
was presentedbythe members
of the Carmel Presbyterian Chur-
ch, in Hensall, and a large cro-
wd was on hand for the occasion.
The board of the Zurich Public
School have made arrangements
with Sam Rannie of Hensall to
give one hour's instruction in
singing to every room, each
week.
Oscar Ducharme has sold his
95 -acre farm on the Bluewater
highway to his neighbour, James
Masse, who gets possession in
November.

OCTOBER, 1944
The Seventh Victory Loan is
now well under way and canvas-
sers are busy getting in the sub-
scriptions. The same canvassers
as the last few loans are William
H. Edighoffer and Milton Oesch.
The fourth annual South Huron
field meet was held at the Zur-
ich Fair grounds last Wednesday
afternoon, with a large attend-
ance.
Ration books were issued in the
local Town Hall on Friday and
Saturday afternoon and evening,
and the usual amount of books
were turned out.
William Decker, president of
the Zurich Agricultural Society,
and who is well-known in the
field of good horses, has been
called at various fall fairs to
act as horse judge.
The Zurich Women's Institute
packed 27 boxes for the boys
overseas on Monday evening
under the leadership of Mrs.
Thomas Meyers.
A large number of people were
in, town on Saturday afternoon
attending the late A. Etue auc-
tion sale. The property was not
sold.
Mr. George Clausius sold his
fine farm just north of Zurich to
his son, Robert who has been
with his father all ]these years.
William H. Golding Seaforth
federal member for Huron -Perth,
was a.gain nominated to repre-
sent tie party at the approaching
federal election.

OC TOBER 1954
What proved to be the highlight
in Lionism in Zurich took place
last Wednesday night when some
300 Lions from this zone gather-
ed at the Community Centre for
a big rally. The speaker for the
occasion was second vice-pres-
ident of Lions International,
John L. Stickley, of North Caro-
lina.
Rev. Goth, of Metropolitan
Church, London was the guest
speaker at the annual meeting
of the Huron Federation of
Agriculture, held in the Zurich
Community Centre.
Frank K. Dyck, of Whitewater,
Manitoba, and George Dyck and
Mrs. Frank Weins, of Virigil,
were recent visitors with Mrs.
Mary Manson and Mr. and Mrs.
Newell Geiger. The former Mr.
Dyr k left this area about 25 years
ago, and this was his first visit
back to the area. He now owns
350 acres of choice land in the
west.
Mrs. William Hart, of Varna
passed away very suddenly on
Saturday after a short illness.
She was the former Rachel Mc-
Clinchey, and was born in Stan-
ley Township where she spent
most of her life.
Mrs. Bruce Malcolm of Toronto
was a guest for a couple of days
at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Victor Dinnin, in Zurich.

OCTOBER, 1959
The Zurich campaign for the
CN1B amounted to $281., or
$19 short of the objective set,
Last year the campaign went
over the top with $338 raised,
The Zurich Lions Club at their
regular meeting agreed to spon-
sor three minor hockey teams
for the coming season. The
teams are Bantam, Midget, and
Juveniles.
A federal referundum will be
held in Huron County on Nov-
ember 30, to find out if the
residents wish to abblish the
Canada Temperance Act, which
was passed by parliament about
81 years ago.
Gerald Gingerich had his ton-
sils removed- at Clinton Public
hospital, and has returned home
Plan Achievement
Day For 4-H Girls
4-11 Homemaking Cl ub Achie-
vement Days are soon to be held
in Huron County. This fall the
project has been "Needlecraft"
and the club members who are
involved in this project have
learned seven basic embroidery
stitches, and have experimented
with colour and design.
Each club has trade a learning
stitches article and a free choice
article, which had provided op-
portunity for the girls to use their
own colour scheme in an original
design. These articles will be on
display along with their record
books for the project.
The Achievement Days will
be held in Seaforth District high
School, November 8; Auburn
Community Hall, November 15;
South Huron District High School
Exeter; November 22; Zurich
Community Centre, November
29; Lucknow Public School, Dec-
ember 6; Ilowick Central School,
December 13.
The afternoon programme com-
mences after 1:00 p.m. and
features shits, demonstrations
and exhibits by each club. Do
plan on attending this worthwhile
event in your area. The girls
put a great deal of effort and
imagination into the programme
and it will prove to be an enjoy-
able afternoon.

A gang of London youths who
'partied in the Hazelwood cot-
tages at Bayfield were fined a
total of $750 by Magistrate D.E.
Holmes, in Goderich court. The
seven boys and two girls were
all about 17 years of age.
At a meeting of the trustees
of the police `village of Zurich,
a contract for building several
new streets of sidewalks was
awarded to Napoleon Corriveau.
An application by the trustees
of the police village of Zurich
for incorporating the municip-
ality as a village will be heard
by the Ontario Municipal Board,
at a meeting to be held in the
village on November 19/59.
