Obituary
JOHN DOWSON
John Dowson, R,R,1 Varna,
passed away in Clinton Com-
munity Hospital on Sunday,
October 26, where he had. been
a patient since April. He was in
his 85th year.
Surviving are his wife, the for-
mer Eliza Jane Stephenson; four
sons, George, Hensall; Harold,
Glen and Cecil, R,R.1, Varna;
six grandchildren and 12 great
great grandchildren,
Public funeral was held Tues-
day, October 28, from the Bon-
thron Funeral home, conducted
by Rev. M. Morrison. Buriel
was in Bayfield cemetery.
visited last Friday with their
daughter and son-in-law, Mr,
and Mrs. Ross MacMillan and
family in Waterloo, and while
there attended the Artist's Mart'
Exhibition and sale held in Kit-
chener„ sponsored by the Wom-
en's Committee of the Kitchen-
er -Waterloo Art Gallery, of
which their daughter is a mem-
ber.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mickle,
London, spent Sunday with the
formers' parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Laird Mickle.
Sunday guests with Mrs. C.
Christie and Catharine were Mr.
and Mrs. Eric McCue and Chris-
tie; Mrs. B. Christie; and Miss
Mae Thompson, all of Kitchener.
Mrs, A. Grasser, Kitchener
visited last week with Mrs. C.
Christie and Catharine.

byterial Rally at Belgrave Pres-
byterian Church, Wednesday
afternoon, October 22, where
the guest speaker was Mrs. Cre a-
sey, of Chatham, secretary of
London -Hamilton Synodical.

uel United Church, Zurich, was
guest speaker at Riverside United
Church, London, while the min-
ister of that church was in Zur-
ich for anniversary services.
Riverside began as a mission
project of the Evangelical Uni-
ted Brethren Church about 15
years ago.

Hensall United Church Women See
Interesting Films of Japan, India
The general meeting of the
U, C, W of Hensall United Chur-
ch was held October 20. in the
Sanctuary of the Church.
Music was supplied by Morley
Desjardine of Grand Bend on the
piano, and John E. Caldwell on
the organ. The soloist was Adrian
Brand of Crediton, who sang "I
Believe" and led the singing in
two gospel hymns, "Count your
Blessings" and "Come to the
,Saviour".
Mrs. Howard Scane chaired the
meeting, and welcomed the
visitors and gave a poem "Wea-
lth Untold", The devotion from
Mark 9 on "Faith" was given by
Mrs, David Kyle. She discussed
the old beliefs and faiths as
compared to the new curriculem,
Mrs. Kyle concluded the devot-
ion with prayer.
The offering was taken by Mrs.
Clendon Christie and Mrs. Don
Joynt and dedicated by Mrs.
Scane.
Mrs. Robert Cook introduced
the guest speaker, Mrs. Ward
Fritz of Exeter, who gave a
resume of her cruise and showed
beautiful pictures of Japan, Hong
Kong, Singapore, Ceylon and
India. Mrs. Fritz was thanked
by Mrs. Walter Spencer.
The business part of the meet-
ing was chaired by the president,
Mrs, Vern Alderdice, in the
Fellowship room. The ladies
agreed to knit layettes for the
Children's Aid Society.
Reports were given by Mrs.
Spencer, treasurer, and Mrs,
Lorne Hay for visitation. Mrs.
Jack Drysdale read the minutes
of the previous meeting. A bile
will be packed the latterart of
October, Ladies are askedto
save all used stamps for the Le-
pers as well as old Christmas
cards and nylon stockings, A del-
icious lunch was served -by Unit
I in charge.
RUMMAGE SALE
Members of Hensall Kinette
Club held their annual rummage
sale last Friday night in the Hen-
sall Community Centre, and
were very pleased with its' suc-
cess.
The event was one of the best,
with proceeds most gratifying.'
Cartons of used clothing not sold
were taken to the United Church
for the bale which is being pack-
ed for overseas relief.
The members appreciate very
much the fine co-operation of
residents of the village for their
donations to this sale.
